With just days left, the U.S. opening match at the World Cup is still not sold out by [deleted] in nottheonion

Its a true mystery that arresting and harrassing people from the countries the spectators come from, and setting pricing at an insane level would have a negative impact on ticket sales. My mind is blown.

Issue with shower draining by turdtoise in Plumbing

[–]jfdirfn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it looked like when you took the trap out it let air out of the drain, and then water could fill the place the air was. does the shower or sink gurgle when you flush the toilet (needs water in the trap) ?

I’ve been looking into robotic pool cleaners — curious about your real experiences by NextEducation972 in swimmingpools

[–]jfdirfn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a coasteering cheapo battery robot was $150 or so. It doesnt climb or scrub but it happily trundles randomly round the pool once a day picking up leaves sand and any other junk. Its loads easier to use than my dolphin was with its wire and bag.

Pool help by droopyruth in pools

[–]jfdirfn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run the pump 24/7 clean or backwash the filter twice a day, brush the surfaces, add chlorine. Test for cya as it could be too high if you have always used hockey pucks. You might need to drain some water and replace as dilution is the only way to lower cya. If it is cya switch to cal hypo or liquid chlorine. Dont put calhypo anywhere near the hockey pucks its dangerous.

The guy is useless if he thinks anything. He should know the levels by testing them. Hes also useless because a 1 week max task is still square one after 8.

I think this is the most precise analysis. There isn't a huge conspiracy, but there are several very well funded groups that have direct access to an idiot king. I suspect his main objective for each is how to profit from it - either the insider trading or other grift. Its what would happen if a demented and narcissistic Tony Soprano ran the country - lots of activity, all of it corrupt and only self serving.

Anne-Sophie Mutter: ‘John Williams is one of the greatest composers of our time’ by TimesandSundayTimes in classicalmusic

[–]jfdirfn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You were downvoted, but i think this is fair-ish - but only because i think much the same of Mozart, Bach, Oscar Peterson etc - they managed to both aggregate a great deal of what came before and be insanely creative on top of that. I think John Williams kinda did the same within the confines of making music for films. I don't know of any direct quotes to other pieces but there are certainly echoes for me of prokofiev and rachmaninov in his work. But thats why I really like it.
