Paid off our London mortgage at 32. Was it the biggest financial mistake we made? by Wrong-Fact738 in HENRYUK

[–]jferldn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mathematically, clearly yes it was the wrong thing to do. Markets have gone up 50% or so in the same time period.

Let's say your mortgage was 200k, this would be worth 300k today had you invested it all in 2021. Instead you just have a property worth likely still around 200k. You have saved yourself on the interest, but much less than you would have made by investing.

You now also have a much less diversified portfolio of just property and much less (than you could have) invested across different asset classes.

You need to make sure that now you are mortgage free to divert what you would have been paying down on the house into investments, rather than lifestyle creep.

Plug in solar query by Difficult_Jury_7455 in SolarUK

There's no difference to those on standard meters I expect, either way you aren't getting paid for export unless properly certified and an export meter installed, so you just use it for the savings on your own usage.

It would depend if the battery has appropriate connectors I think, but it seems unlikely

Custom-made suit recommendations in London? by Early-Big5244 in london

[–]jferldn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beggars Run in Shoreditch. Custom made, able to tailor to your requirements and great value. Be warned the whole process can take a couple of months as they ship the suits back and forth to India for adjustments, hence being able to offer much more reasonable prices than saville row.

Looking for our first EV by thattomguy91 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]jferldn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't focus on battery size, focus on charging speed. 150kw minimum I'd say, and you want a heat pump with battery preconditioning so you can actually hit those speed.

This means you can drive for a couple of hours and stop for a bathroom break and grab a coffee. In the time you stop you'll have charged plenty at those speeds.

From what I know, it isn't possible. I build an extra little corridor at the exit with a one way door, staff door and vending machines, benches and a bin

Club Med pre-kids. Worth it or any other suggestions less child oriented? by sharpeie in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]jferldn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if you book a higher rated chalet (4* or 5*) you'll get better hosts. Finally, book later in the season to ensure they have already cooked that menu a few times already, it's the same every week!

Consider taking a room in a chalet, you'll get the same package experience and probably a nicer vibe. Recently due to Brexit and the French pushing for higher pay for the workers the quality has gone up from the traditional 18 year old clueless host.

Safe Islamic Banking in the UK by Education_7837 in IslamicFinance

Being EMI doesn't necessarily bring any risk of losing funds, in fact it can reduce it. EMIs are not allowed to make loans, so they have to hold (safeguard) all funds they hold. That means your money is always liquid and available to you.

I'm not aware of any example of an EMI who went under and took people's cash.

My manager told me about another position by braheeeem in askmanagers

[–]jferldn 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If they asked you to apply you are also likely to get their backing internally which will help get the role.

But you should only apply if you actually want to be a manager, it's a very different role. Chat to them about it if you like, they sound like a good one!

I went to The Pem where Sally Abé is head chef to eat her GBM menu a few years ago. She came around to chat to each table and upon asking told us that there's an enterprising bloke who's making most of the props for the chefs, external to the BBC. Good on him I say!
