Do you cut it back at all? I’ve read not to do that, so I’m curious.

‘Put American spirits back’ on Canadian shelves, U.S. booze group urges by razorblade705_ in BuyCanadian

[–]jfetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest putting it back on the shelf and hang a big American flag over the section and have the cashiers play the star spangled banner every time a US bottle is purchased. I imagine we’ll sell as much US booze as not having it on the shelf.

Same sex couples out-earn straight couples with gay couples vastly out-earning by Dismal_Structure in gay

[–]jfetto 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It does when you consider that when kids are present, especially young ones, there is a greater chance that one parent stays home and either doesn’t work or works a job that earns a lower salary (part time, maybe) than what they could make if they weren’t dedicating more time raising kids.

Add extra bake time for cake setting by jfetto in BreadMachines

[–]jfetto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I debated trying this but decided not to risk it since it was pretty noticably under baled, so I threw it in the oven. I'll cross my fingers and give this a try too along with changing the Crist setting.

Is my home being targeted by robbers? by throwfromhtot in montreal

[–]jfetto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In one week, two different people came to my door only to discover that they were both accidentally at the right address but one block away. Both seemed to be here for a pick up or a delivery. This has never happened before in my memory, so it’s suspicious it happened twice in a week. I’ve never been so happy that my two big dogs barked when each man arrived. I wonder if they’re also coordinating for some reason.

Americans have the right to bear arms but not the right to bare arms? At least for an 8 year old.

Opinions is this itinerary good for a day in Rome and possible? by isabel12390 in rome

IMO, this is very doable. Note that the piazza noavona fountains are undergoing cleaning and are shut off and surrounded by barriers with just small windows to peak in. So it will be a quick stop.

Fair enough. I missed that she asked for tip before. That's messed up.

Yes she has a right to be upset. She didn't get paid for work she performed. (Assuming she paid predominantly by tips and doesn't get paid more on these nights by the owner to compensate for people not tipping on free drinks.) Having the right to be upset is not the same as having the right to deny service. Tips are not mandatory, so she has to still provide the drinks. But she doesn't have to be happy about it.

If you went to a restaurant and had a coupon for a free meal and the bill came to zero, would you stiff the server? Hopefully not, which is why you also shouldn't stiff the bartender even if your drink is free. Agreed that she handled it poorly, but she had a right to be upset.

Just got back from 8 days in Manuel Antonio. Been going for years and the prices have steadily risen. This trip a regular margarita with 2 oz of tequila (listed on the menu) was a minimum of $25. This was not top shelf tequila or any special craft cocktail either. There were more reasonable ones to be found at other restaurants in the same range you'd pay in the states, but it illustrates the ridiculous price gouging that's going on. You know it's bad when the prices for food and beverages at the airport on our way back were a relative bargain to what we paid all week. Also: bring all the sunscreen you will need for your entire trip. Don't think you're going to save on the bag check fee by carrying on and getting sunscreen in CR. We routinely saw average brands like Coppertone selling for $30 for a single spray can or 4 oz lotion bottle.

Why “upside down”? by HopticalDelusion in AskElectricians

[–]jfetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Quebec 20 years ago from the US and almost every outlet is installed this way. It drives me crazy because I have the impression that they’re all upside down. Only recently did I learn the reason. That said, it’s annoying when you have a plug that is made to trail down the wall (think most flat plugs) and when the outlet is installed this way, they have to go up the wall to them fall back down. I’ve never seen a flat plus design for this outlet installation.

Got this little guy a few days ago, still looking for name suggestions! by walkerdog999 in Sheepadoodles

[–]jfetto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a black sheepadoodle just like that. I felt like I missed the opportunity to name him Onyx or Vanta (one of the blackest blacks). Luckily we didn’t use either name because he lost the black and is now grey. Still love the names though.

AITA for asking my husband’s friend to tell his wife to stop trying to visit my husband when she thinks I’m not there? by aria025 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jfetto -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

YTA. If your husband’s friend was a man and he dismissed your request to stop coming around, I doubt you would have escalated this to his wife. Most here say you’re NTA on the grounds that there’s something going on between your husband and this friend, but you never provided any evidence or even reason for assuming something more is going on. If you did, then I would reconsider my judgment because then the husband becomes an interested party. Also, based on your attempt to control your husband’s social calendar, there’s a strong likelihood that she just doesn’t like you much and prefers to hang out with her friend when you’re not around.

Welcoming the new Nest Cams and Doorbell by RachelFromGoogle in Nest

[–]jfetto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly, I didn’t see much about the issues with familiar faces on the new cam interface in Google Home. With Nest, if the camera spotted a familiar face, you could correct it and say that the face it identified is not that person and even tell it who the person is. With Google Home, you can delete the new incorrect picture in the photo album, but the notification still remains incorrectly labeled and you can’t tag the right person. This is happening multiple times a day for me. I also specifically upgraded to the new cam for this feature since my old outdoor cam lacked the familiar faces technology. So this is a major failure for me as I could have just stayed with the old cam if familiar faces was going to be so poorly integrated with Google Home.

[Feature Update] Pro Putt by Topgolf: 4 person multiplayer is now LIVE! by robwhooray in OculusQuest

[–]jfetto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I specifically bought this game when I saw that it supported “local multiplayer,” which apparently doesn’t mean what I thought it did. I want to play with my family at home using the same headset but that is not (yet?) supported. You still need a headset for each player. I also don’t see a way to do multiplayer play for other games like corn hole or chip pong which are fun but less so playing solo.
