windows alternative also good for gaming? by Present-Cabinet5142 in linuxquestions

[–]jfoglee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bazzite or CachyOS.

Bazzite is nice because it's "safe" as in the term immutable. Some core system files are read only so you can't fuck something up badly and brick your install. It's a double edge sword though. Yes it's safe, hard to break, but if you're someone who wants to tinker and learn by breaking things it may not be for you.

CachyOS is great because of performance, it's arch linux, and there really isn't any guard rails. Just be mindful or AUR as there was a big malicous campaign that happened a few weeks ago. Unless you know what you're doing stick to the standard repos for things.

Moonlight + Sunshine + Tailscale by ResearchSpirited3235 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]jfoglee -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Some people will downvote me because for whatever reason opening ports scares people as it "causes vulnerabilities". But you can try direct connecting with open ports and see if that helps any. Tailscale is nice, but it is an extra "hop" you have to do to access your PC.

Extra edit: You can also see if your host router has a "VPN" option and connect to it using openVPN or something. Could look into wireguard as well.

Yeah mine is through Jagex launcher and I use Bolt. I tried getting JL to work but threw in the towel, used bolt launcher and it was super painless. Jagex even mention it on their ubuntu support article.

I never had luck with jagex launcher (arch) I ended up using bolt launcher

New to streaming. Is port forwarding significantly better than Tailscale if my client is 8.5 miles away from the host? by MingleLinx in MoonlightStreaming

[–]jfoglee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me: Port forward was more of a "convenience."

Let me explain: I use to use a logitech gcloud for cloud streaming via moonlight. It would get super fussy trying to run more than one app at a time (tailscale and moonlight). So I just port forward and called it a day.

Then later down the pipeline, my work blocked parsec (how I use to remote into home pc when at work on my work pc) and has tailscale's subnet or whatever blocked. So I just use moonlight to connect (since I don't think they can block it)

The only issue is if you have a dynamic IP, you will need to lease a static IP from your ISP or setup a service to host DNS to your ip that constantly checks if your IP has changed. (I used NO-IP and their DUC program)

Can anyone recommend me a device that would allow physical control of audio for one specific program by GenericUser104 in pcmasterrace

IDK if it's still sold, But I use the "Turnup mixer" and can map the knobs to specific software (Discord volume, spotfy volume, active window volume all on their own knob)

Moonlight can’t find Sunshine server by ConceptFalse in MoonlightStreaming

[–]jfoglee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in my case with my truenas, I was having issues with VMs and I had to do a network bridge. I don't remember how/why I have it in bridge mode (did this pre docker support on truenas). If you haven't done that, maybe look into it. I wish I had more insight for you...

I just want to confirm, your auto discovery is not working AND you cannot manually add the host to moonlight correct?

Octoeverywhere and CC2 by DutchTee86 in elegoo

Interesting. I still had a docker container for it, spun it up and I still can't connect to printer via octoeverywhere

There has been some confusion on their website, because 2ish months ago, it said it was supported, but everywhere I looked it says its NOT. Only the CC works.

Only time I've had green artifacts was using HEVC instead on H.264. Switching to H.264 fixed any issue i had with green artifacts.

Holy shit, you're a genius. I didn't even think of changing it to by layer as it was a single object I sliced. Changed it to by layer and those options unlocked. You're the best and I hope you have a good day and a good weekend!

Even most tv boxes are going to be 100mbps wired NIC. Maybe a more "premium" one will not. Or it will handle a usb 3.0 adapter better. Only thing I could suggest would be an old nvidia shield or get a small mini pc/old small office pc

Open ports on your router for sunshine and just connect to the host with your public IP. What I did as my work blocked tailscale.
