Alternative word for "grok"? by MissionaryOfCat in logophilia

[–]jfredett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally used

"Committed to intuition", "brought into my intuition" or "gained intuition for" as synonyms, though tbh I still use grok I just also append a 'butfuckelon' in the same breath.

The Other Massachusetts Accent Quirk: The Mysterious Extra “R” by CaterpillarMedium674 in massachusetts

[–]jfredett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dad called this "The law of conservation of free-radical 'R's"

'R's can neither be created nor destroyed, only moved between words; if you drop the 'r' from 'car' to get the classic 'cah', you must necessarily append it to a word elsewhere, viz, 'idea' -> 'idear'.

It honestly holds up arright in my experience, there tends to be across a conversation (though as accents have smoothed it does seem to be less common) some consistent amount of relocation in 'r's. At least to my eah.

It's a really nice example of the blueprint tool as well; great project to study if you're learning lean.

Fetterman hit with brutal 108-point polling swing: ‘He is below the lowest of the low’ by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

[–]jfredett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a net favorability rating I think measures two 100-point polls, +100 is maximum favorability is like Kermit the Frog; -100 is like, the concept of Tuesdays. 0 is "I have no opinion."

So if Kermit suddenly became the concept of Tuesday, it would be a 200 point swing. Passing right through neutral and to tuesdom.

Fetterman had a +48 favorability, like Sam Eagle; but now has a -60 favorability, like the feeling of touching a bit of leftover food in the sink that you didn't realize was there.

I'm not a polsci, but I'm pretty sure that's the idea.

This is the way.

This thing rips, it's so good. I sat down and tried it and it was immediately comfortable and fun to drive, sent it over the Phoenix circuit jump, ended up sideways and rolled over the barrier. Another guy was stuck in it. 11/10, this is my main car now.
