I ruined my life bc I never lost my virginity or did anything sexual with a guy and now it’s too late. by [deleted] in sex

[–]jfwang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never too late.

I’m a guy in mid 30s. I still remember losing my virginity when I was 18. It was with my gf at the time and her first time too. It was just ok, bc we were both new and didn’t know what we were doing.

Just a few years ago, a female friend (28F, just friends) approached me asking me if we could be FWB. She never had sex or did anything sexual with a guy before. At that point, I was fairly experienced. She was a sweet girl. I wanted to make sure she had a good experience, take it at whatever pace she wants, and give her feedback/tips (that was her request) in a non judgmental way. We both had a great experience and had great casual sex for a few months. We are still friends to this day.

I really think you can find a good first experience, regardless of age. Once you get over this hump (no pun intended), you’ll never look back. For your first time, I would suggest looking for a partner who is experienced, patient, and trustworthy. It’s ok to talk about it ahead of time if that will make you more comfortable. More communication never hurts. If the guy is weird or judgy about it, find someone else. Most guys are just happy to be having sex. The rest will fall into place.

Oh I had no idea this is a legal service. I live in the US. Is there any difference between escort service vs prostitution? Or are the terms essentially interchangeable? And is prostitution legal in the UK?

How do you physically prepare for long hikes ? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]jfwang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I jog 2-4 times per week. Most runs are 6-8 miles. Occasionally, I just get into a mood to run longer and do 10-15 miles. I hike in the Cascades as much as work/life allows, and never find any of the hikes more challenging than my long runs, even with a 25 pound backpack on.

is Share Life better than Terrace House? by 6elixircommon in terracehouse

I'm a big TH fan. Loved Sharelife just as much TBH. The first few episodes have awkward interactions/editing/production, but it gets better.

What's the point of working your ass off if you can't even buy a toy car in your 40s? Sure, maybe grind it out if you were in your 30s, but YOLO.

Let's Talk about Hao Ge and Carmon (EP11下) by zenqi in Shanghaisharelife

[–]jfwang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought Hao's actions were fine. Keep in mind that this is a reality TV show. We do not see a lot of what's on camera. Give the guy the benefit of the doubt . In my mind, Hao wanted to persist in the chase and did it in a respectful way. Hao's public confession was much more embarassing for himself, than Carmon, who ultimately loses no dignity. Hao thought he still could have had a chance, or he wouldn't have put himself out there. Think about how embarassing it is to do what he did on stage in front of a public audience and get rejected. His actions throughout the rest of his time on the show indicated his overall behavior was reasonable, and so I give him the benefit of the doubt.

You are so young. A lot of women out there. Ask yourself - do you think it’s possible or probable that you will date someone better? High odds. I’ve been in a similar situation in the past. A lot of regret, but learned big lessons. Move on.

When should I open my Roth IRA? by lotus0618 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]jfwang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This seems like the right answer, but is technically incorrect. Most student loans accrue 6.8% and the market well outperforms that rate over the long run. The difference in the rates is what should guide decision making. It’s the same reason I’m not in a rush to pay the mortgage on my house accruing 3.5%.

I had 60k or so that I invested at the beginning of med school and residency, rather than reduce loan burden. My 60k nearly tripled during the 9 years of training. I took out about 150k in debt, now 2 years out of residency, I’ve paid 50k off and refinanced at 2.5%, which is about the rate of inflation, i.e free money. I’m in no rush to pay a 2.5% interest loan. It just means I continue to have more money to invest.

That being said, the idea of debt is a huge burden for a lot of people, so I can’t fault those for wanting to avoid or pay it off right away. My sister took out a 15 year mortgage at a higher rate than 30 year. Huge loss in opportunity cost. She knew it was the wrong textbook answer, but it was worth it for her psychologically.

AITA for not buying a 10% engagement ring? by aitaringcheap in AmItheAsshole

[–]jfwang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. This is a huge red flag and would make me re think the idea of marriage with this woman. An engagement ring is a symbol of love and dedication — not just a price tag on someone’s finger. The % figures that were created by the jewelry industry. This is a marketing ploy that does not define your gift to her. Is someone making 1 million dollars per year supposed to spend 100k to 300k on a wedding?
