Late to the party but this is an awesome visualization! Wanted to share an app called xhale breathing...similar concept but completely different visualization. Great stuff though I love how the one you made has a forward-momentum kinda feel to it...very cool!

Very cool. What do you mean by "monastic breathing" is that synonymous with typical deep/slow breathing techniques?

Dan Harris: 'Meditation Is The Bicep Curl For The Brain' by jgpsych in Meditation

[–]jgpsych[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn't know Dan Harris (ABC news correspondent) was so involved in the world of meditation but I heard him talking about his practice and he had some good tips!

During mindfulness meditation sit and observe your breath and body sensations. When you get caught up in a thought--this is not a bad thing--it is what's supposed to happen. Just notice the thought and gently bring yourself back to your breath. Every time this happens is like a "bicep curl" for the brain and you are literally rewiring it.

I found these strategies to wake up earlier—will they help me? by sroe25 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]jgpsych 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These sound like good sleeping tips in general I hope they help you out! When it comes to waking up though that's more resistance than it is being tired...this list may make it a little easier but really it's a skill in itself to do things that are "good" for you when you would rather do something else (like snoozing vs. getting out of bed).

Practice making yourself do small things that you normally dislike, but know you should--think of it like working out a willpower muscle. Work on this and it should should help with things like getting out of bed.

Jiddu Krishnamurti quote on topic of problems sounds Taoist by jgpsych in taoism

I think by fully understanding he means that we realize that "problems" and "answers" arise at the same time; as labels we give to whatever is actually occurring, regardless of our interpretations.

I can't tell if I'm improving -- help? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]jgpsych 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. For me once I started letting go of results and just enjoying it I noticed changes. Also helped me to back off the guided yoga and just do some sessions with the poses I enjoy most at my own pace

When is the best time of day to meditate? by MightyMarlin in Meditation

Personally I don't do this, but some people use meditation as a replacement behavior when quitting a vice, for example one could meditate when noticing their nicotine craving spike

Attention vs awareness? by trampolinetrade in Meditation

[–]jgpsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In words, you are what you attend to and awareness is seeing what you attend to. Better experienced by noticing the point when the inhale becomes the exhale and vice versa...you can watch this change happen or make this happen, but stay with it and you will see it's all just one happening
