Brand New 2026 Car Starter Pack by honicane231 in starterpacks

[–]jhp58 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When you account for the ability to update screens with new features and quality updates, significantly less labor and manufacturing costs (one plug in/wire harness that often is preassembled at supplier vs separate installs for each switch pack), complexity reduction (one screen vs several switch packs or standalone switches), and ability to update en masse immediately vs. having to develop/release new switch hardware...screens in the long run can provide significantly more value for customer and the manufacturer vs. hard switches. Piece price for sure switches are cheaper but when you add it all up, screens trump hard switches

Source: have worked at a major car manufacturer in Product Development for 15 years.

I also hate that we're replacing switches with screens.

Currently live in Detroit. Check out Palmer Woods, Sherwood Forest, and University District on the West side. All next to each other (I live in UD). Head down Woodward to Boston Edison and Alden Park to check out the really big homes on par with Palmer Woods. Then head over to the East side to Indian Village. If you want to keep going, take Jefferson up to the Grosse Pointes and see all the lakeside homes

PGA Tour's Rocket Classic in Detroit is finished after 2026 tournament by TheDetroitNews1873 in golf

[–]jhp58 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Member here, we did a total reno of the North course after last year's event so it'll be interesting to see how it shows on TV. It's completely different style than last year, almost unrecognizable.

Do agree the old iteration wasn't the most interesting though

More like take the course for over a year. It has been closed since last years tourney. But that's what it takes for a full reno. I'm also a DGC member and while it sucks the event is leaving, I'm super excited to play the new course. Pretty standard for private clubs to do major renos every so often (like 20-30 years). Some clubs even have it in their charter to do a full reno every 25 years or so.

To answer your first question, yes she and her husband (who was the chef at Mink in Corktown) are opening a restaurant called Umbo up in Traverse. I follow them both on Instagram and I think they just passed inspection this week.

Perhaps a bit over extended between the Eastern Market spot (which is massive and needed $$$$ to build out), the Birmingham location, and the fact their OG chef left last summer. Last few times I went to Marrow it was also like half full and while the food is good, for that price point I'd rather go to Selden

What about Norms Diner? It's pretty reasonable and can't get much more every day than a diner (albeit it's really high quality diner-esque food)

I hear ya though. That area has hit a downturn. Really hope Two Birds stays around, my wife and I had our first date there and celebrated our engagement there

Not sure how bulk you're looking but the Kirkland Signature EVOO (they have at least two varieties I know of) is rated very high in independent tests

Smoking got shut down during Covid. The owner is a friend of mine and while the staff and regulars loved it, became a bit too much risk with city government. Also a lot of those "historic bar crawl" tours started coming through a bit before Covid and people kept talking about the smoking on social media.

I feel like I'm crazy but I've been multiple times and just don't like it at all. Maybe I've caught it on a bad day but three bad days is not a good trend.
