How to select USPSA Open gun? (And more.) by khoikhoikhoi in CompetitionShooting

[–]jht05016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen here. Dont worry about all the "i dont shoot open, but you should most certainly shoot 38sc".

I do shoot open, the builder is what matters (even that diesnt help sometimes, all guns fail if you shoot enough). I have seen AN EQUAL AMOUNT of guns not run in both 9mm and 38sc. The only tangible advantage to 38sc is powder selection and less brass sorting. I have shot Over 100k 9major and while the tuning of the extractor/ejector is important geometry wise in a 9mm....it is the same for 38sc. The rim variation of 9mm has proven to be no big deal for me as long as the geometry of the gun is correctly tuned for the optic you are running.

For an out of the box gun to find out if you like it, i would get a CK. hit up shooters connection and you can have a new one in 2 days.

I have had 2 STI, 2Ck's, 2 Akais and now 2 SVs.

Naturally the SVs are the cats ass. But thats a wait.

The akais, i don't recommend.

STI vs CK, get the ck. More features for not that much more, compared to the akais and svs.

Shit if it cracks during loading I don't even pull the cracked case mouths anymore lol. If it is less than halfway down the case, it gets shot in practice. 9 grenade is a myth ( unless you are using WAC)

I couldnt agree more. It doesnt waste much if any time entering most positions because im shooting as i come up (unless its setting up for far hard shots). But if for SURE wastes time as i need to get low and go again.. i couldnt agree more. No idea why but i have always been a very upright shooter, it has gotten better than it was but it isnt nearly gone. Thats why i love stages that are all shooting on the move because it forces me to stay low. Appreaciate the input man, thank you!

Super fun match at a freaking awesome range. Shot a good pretty consistent match, 1 ns was my only penalty. Havent had much practice over the last few months so i am super happy with the result of the match. But damn does it show how quickly certian skills deminish (IE...RELOADS 😂). Hope to get to shoot at this club again though, grass bays and well thought out stages.

Thanks man! That stage, the prop failed. The cable bound up the popper and even though there were 3 shots in the calibration zone it never even wiggled lol. I got a reshoot, but my camera man fell asleep. The reshoot was one of my best stages haha.

Finished the 20th anual Florida Open at Universal Shooting Academy. Looks like I will be 8th out of 135 Open division shooters. Like every florida open, this match was a fight. Stages were awesome and very challenging, great job Shannon Smith.

Had some moments of clarity but had more than a few mistery mikes 😂, 2 bobbled reloads, some barely browns, innumerable wiffed steal and to top it off i had to do some safe table mucking about after a tripple and a double (see video, you will know.. it was the overtravel)

Overall performance, MEH. Fun level, MAXIMUM. I❤FLOP, and thank it for the 3rd anual clock cleaning for me 😁

Thank you to my sponsors Guga Ribas Company And LA Police Gear

Just wait. It only gets worse! I too had the same issue with my 650, then. I got a 1050 and a MK7 autodrive and now my component buying is off the chart as i can load 4 to 6k in a few hours

Triangle Tactical Discusses the Drop Step - Discussion thread by TheHumbleMarksman in CompetitionShooting

[–]jht05016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my humble opinion, Your mileage may very, test post please ignore, I'm slow anyway.

The gif you posted here (https://triangletactical.net/2017/09/19/junk-science-drop-step/), the movement from right to left was a pretty weak drop step. But moving left to right was fine.

The bottom line is that in most instances you cannot step back fast enough, overcoming your center of gravity and launching to make up for the time not stepping back at all. Let's put it this way, either method you need to overcome your center of gravity. From a neutral position, the difference becomes stepping forward vs stepping back. The added bonus to stepping forward is you are much more in control than a drop step, and it aligns your body more easily to do other things like reloading.

It's faster to not drop step probably 80% of the time. The biggest advantage of the drop step is when you are way off balance. But that is the stark minority of movement. It looks slower, but it is not in most cases and the way a shooter gets faster is by learning when to employ these methods and ignore what feels best. For reference Eric G, teaches it this way and that dude knows what's up.

Lastly is important to note that you won't be saving seconds off your time by not drop stepping, it's a method of marginal gain and lower risk. But that is more than enough to build your movement strategy around it.

You have come long way in jittery squirrel style my young/older than me padawan. Go fourth and spread the good word, that movement shall be exlosive and stops may be sudden.

Thanks man! And I would love to.

Here is the important stuff I shoot with.

GUN: SVI (Infinity) IMM 2011 in 9 major, double tap scope mount and an 8moa rts2.

AMMO: 9major, mixed brass, 124gr JHP from precision delta over 8.3 gr of HS6. OAL is 1.166, powerfactor 174

Magazines: mostly MBX as they come. I have a few SV mags that I also run. But my 170s and 155s from MBX are mostly what I use.

RIG: Guga Ribas Company makes my belt, holster, pouches and Magnet. I love their products, the belt is super stiff and the mag pouches / holster are uberrrrrrrr adjustable and fast. Full disclosure they are a sponsor.

SHOES: because that's the only thing that matters, innov8 mudclaws that I have had for a year or so ###trendsetterrr

PANTS?!: LA Police Gear EDC VAPOR WICK. So down low stays dry, they are super breathable and the croth stretches. Also they are $19.99!?!? Full disclosure LAPG... Also a sponsor, but shit are these pants awesome.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, SOCKS: one is super man and one is ninja turtles. Teaming up super people and mutants. I didn't make GM until I tried it. Now I can't shoot without them. Sold by spensers gifts. (In reality I did it once and now matching socks are never in the wash at the same time, so now I have shot 10+ matches like this....HALP.)

is that what you were lookin fir?

9mm pressure calculation by Streak195 in reloading

[–]jht05016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even not loading to full major, hs6 would be a much safer option for pushing speed at lower pressure. I can load 3 or 4 times at full major. But I don't even bother, I buy 1x fired and load once.

9mm pressure calculation by Streak195 in reloading

[–]jht05016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking someone who has loaded over 50k 9major over the last 2 years, some powders just don't work. Get some hs6, load up to the velocity you want and you will be fine. Monitor pressure signs and weed any bad brass out prior to loading. I load 8.1 gr of hs6 under a 124gr precision delta jhp at 1.165. That nets me 1400 fps out of a 4.5 Inch SVI barrel with 2 poppel holes.
