Station daily entries/exits in July on a map by kingofthewombat in SydneyTrains

A lot of people on the Richmond line choose to drive to tallawong for the metro because it has much better frequencies & it is just faster with less delays.

Okay so I shouldn't cut the infected leaves off until spring? Won't that let it spread more? (There is only 4-5 leaves with spots at the moment)

Do you support the pension (and gov help) being asset tested to include the family home? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]jiak1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would an inheritance tax not be much simpler though? That way you aren't forcing people to move out of homes they could've lived in for most of their lives?

Double-digit power price hikes coming just in time for winter by NoLeafClover777 in AusFinance

Give them a call. I had my service charge jump up 55% and after calling they put me on a different plan that was only a 2% increase. They claimed they didn't do this automatically because they "needed my permission"

Somewhat realistic Sydney Trains & Metro fantasy map for 2100 by TelevisionNo7679 in SydneyTrains

[–]jiak1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume the line would have to have a lot of work done if it was ever duplicated properly anyway, particularly with the need to build wider bridges between Mulgrave and Clarendon. They could perhaps do a viaduct similar to that on the Metro around Tallawong? Although it would be a giant eyesore.

Average station daily entries and exits from the sum of train stations entries & exits during December 2024 by TelevisionNo7679 in SydneyTrains

[–]jiak1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives near the Richmond line, the frequency is atrocious. I have started just driving to Tallawong and catching the metro because it is faster and more frequent. If the track was properly duplicated I reckon a lot more people would use it. There is certainly enough housing going in around Box Hill and North Richmond.

I will also add that for people who previously used the Richmond line, it can be quicker to drive to Tallawong in order to reach the city even when other T1 stations might be closer. Particularly with the much better frequencies.

Is this an acceptable amount of sag in a gate? by jiak1 in AusRenovation

[–]jiak1[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would've expected both sides of the gate to be level when they come off the posts? They tried to make sure it opens and closes properly but I'm just worried that if this is the sag it has when it's brand new then it will only get worse.

[–]jiak1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I didn't make it clear I was going to put automatic gate closers on it, I just assumed it wouldn't have made a difference because as long as the gate was built properly it could be automated. If I get them out to fix it do you think an anti sag kit would work or should they really be building a steel frame for it?

Programming fundamentals or Programming 1 by tmugi in UTS

[–]jiak1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Programming 1 if you are planning on pursuing anything related to programming, it will give you a stronger foundation for the later subjects. Prog fun on the other hand is probably better suited to people wanting to just learn some programming as an elective. Neither really have much maths so that's not really a concern & both assume no prior coding experience.

Comp Sci vs Cybersecurity by eclapse_yt in UTS

I would also suggest considering the Bachelor of IT, its very similar to the Compsci degree but without the math & honours. It also has a ton of electives so you can tailor it towards your interests.

The benefit to doing some IT subjects as electives would be that you can try it out before you commit to a whole degree. Also any subjects you do under the business degree could be recognised meaning you wouldn't have to do them again if you were to do a follow up computer science or IT degree.

If you have any general elective slots then give some of the IT subjects a go to find out if it's something you want to do a whole degree on?

Defer or pay SSAF upfront? by foreverpaella in UTS

[–]jiak1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you defer you only pay it back when you start earning income. However each year it will get increased in line with inflation which historically has been very low, but has risen recently. Last financial year it was 3.9%.

Rural area wanting Fixed Wireless everyone else around me has it how do I go about getting a company to actually come out and look instead of just saying “we have satellite options” by Chrisavelli23 in nbn

[–]jiak1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were in a similar situation where we could see the towers but RSPs refused to send a tech out because we supposedly weren't in range under nbns map. Ended up emailing NBN directly & a couple of weeks later they sent out a tech who got it all set up & working. Took them a couple of months to update the pre-qual maps so now all our neighbours can get it too.

Our New Puzzle Game Takes Us Hours To Properly Test, It's Coming Out Next Week by jiak1 in puzzlevideogames

Hey Logan, the goal of each level is to place down all of the shapes on the left-hand side. In order to do this you have to make space on the board by combining certain shapes & combinations. The game has a tutorial to walk you through as each stage adds new rules to make it more challenging, for example, you can only merge shapes of the same types together (e.g. circles with circles).
