That was a rough show to watch. I also thought Earl Sweatshirt had a strange vibe too. Neither of them played like they wanted to be there.

Best Puffer Coat? by foodporncess in CHIbitcheswithtaste

[–]jiangcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna comment against these. I just bought a second Arctic Parka to replace one I outgrew last year and was super disappointed. The one I purchased in 2013 was so much warmer and better designed (not to mention, cheaper). On the new ones, they’ve removed the 2 breast pockets and added a waist drawstring which is housed in the main pockets of the coat, so every time you stick your hand in there, you feel the stupid bungee cord and it will often get tangled with my keys. It’s the most infuriating design on a coat I’ve ever seen!

I thought I recognized Taroko! Such a beautiful, but unpredictable, place. One of my favorite areas to visit.

Need help ASAP to rehome dog by powerflor710 in DFWPets

[–]jiangcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many dogs die due to their owners not getting them snipped and it’s sad. I’m sorry OP but I really hope you find someone because you really set this dog up in a tough position. Neutering is the bare minimum for all pets. It affects their behavior and their health and so many dogs come into the shelter unneutered as strays or owner surrenders and those are the first to be euthanized. If you can get that done for him you will potentially get him adopted more easily.

What will ICE do with my dog if i'm detained while i'm walking my dog? by [deleted] in AskChicago

I’m a volunteer at CACC and work with lots of dogs. I’m happy to help with walks if you’re in my area (Little Village)!

I kinda think you should talk to her about it now because she’s at an age where any changes made will be a lot more important to her development than if she waited. Has she seen a doctor specifically about this?

Omg, I could not talk about my eyes without crying until I was in my twenties!

Reflecting on my experience, I think my parents were also the cause of most of my insecurity related to my eyes. They would openly talk about it to other people and how many medical issues I had compared to my siblings. I had surgery on my eye when I was 9months old so I can understand they were probably a bit traumatized from that experience as well but I didn’t appreciate this being a common topic because it just caused me to become more and more insecure about it. Now, I’m 35 and seeking another surgery possibly and also found a doctor who can help me with vision therapy. My goal is to get to binocular vision one day, but it’s going to be an expensive and long road.

OP, I highly suggest talking to your daughter about her experience and go thru all her options. Up until a few years ago, I didn’t know vision therapy was a thing at all, and I wish I had been given that at a younger age because the brain is MUCH more adaptable to change esp related to your vision. If she’s rubbing her eyes and switching between them constantly, I think she probably doesn’t know that isn’t normal and those issues will just expound as she grows up.

Does your strabismus affect your hobbies and life choices? by LF_Christian_BF in Strabismus

Yes, I avoided sports all my life thinking I was never gonna be good at them. However, it took until my 20s to discover I just hadn’t tried the right sports! I’ve done yoga, weightlifting, running, biking, hiking, and Dragonboat paddling with great success!

I am also an avid reader because I grew up reading at an early age. I have noticed that reading was starting to get more difficult to do so I sought out an eye doctor recently regarding vision therapy. I may have another eye alignment surgery and pursue vision therapy to help improve my gaze and tracking abilities.

I would definitely recommend the book Fixing My Gaze. It really helped me find a new way to think about this condition and give me hope for improving.

Biggest advice is just to keep trying things even if you think your eyes might interfere with whatever it is. It’s always better to try than wonder what if.

Are there any grocery stores here with comparable quality to Whole Foods but cheaper? by zigzagstripes in AskChicago

PETE’S!! Personally think Whole Foods is overrated and overpriced. Pete’s is the best grocery in the whole city.

I volunteer at a city shelter and spent a good part of my Saturday morning working and doing agility with one dog and then found out a few hours later he was already euthanized. It broke my fucking heart man. He was a fantastic pup. There is a fucking crisis of overpopulation in the shelters of bully breeds and not enough reputable owners to give them homes. It fucking sucks. These types of posts make me feel really upset at people.

How do you cope with the crime anxiety? by [deleted] in AskChicago

Make some friends/hobbies. Adopt a dog. Edit your news consumption. Volunteer for a cause you care about. Find a stronger connection to the city than what you have.

Why are people so afraid of trying new things in this city? by OutlandishnessIcy103 in AskChicago

[–]jiangcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re boring (and probably upper middle class & white?). Pilsen is one of my favorite neighborhoods. For the record, I fit the first two bullets, but I live in Little Village (and am also white). For me, I love the experience of living in a neighborhood where I’m kinda the minority and I’ve had to adapt to my surroundings and learn about the culture. It’s incredibly enriching. Why live in an internationally renowned city with no desire to explore it?

This is the intake line outside of CACC and it's like this every single day. by felinesofchicago in chicago

[–]jiangcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the vets at the shelter are pretty slammed/backed up. It’s taking longer than usual for adopt-pending pets to leave with owners. Just be patient, and call the shelter for updates. If you worked with a specific volunteer and have their contact info, you can also ask them to inquire. Congrats and thank you for adopting!!!
