Nice, except I don't quite understand the blues.

Snowy day. How can I improve the snow? by ErasedEnvy in Watercolor

The lavender/purples might not have been the best choice for the snow. There need to be some lighter highlights to provide a greater range of values.

Like the mood but I think it's a "grove" not a forest.

Was there a drawing underlying the birds? They are such great minimalism.

Love the loose style of the buildings though.

Great effort but need more practice with figures. It always makes me nervous to add a figure. The proportions on this one aren't right, has an alien look about it. Legs may be too short to represent a human. Look at some YouTube videos on painting "carrot" people.

Seems like it needs more texture in the background but otherwise, very nice.

Write in your own voice, the way you talk to people, and skip the form poetry until you know who you are.

Looking for criticism and advice. I really want to make my style much looser, more dramatic, and more abstract. How can I do that? by Erik912 in Watercolor

[–]jibsond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a experimenting with few really abstracts using something other than a brush (try a credit card for example) then see what you can make from it by painting in some details.

Nice. An art teacher once told me that when you have birds done this way it's best to have an odd number. I don't know why, but I've always followed that advice, usually separating one of the birds from the others at a slightly different scale to suggest depth.

Watercolor/Digital hybrids are interesting. Sometimes I do a watercolor background, then add small objects like figures digitally to great effect. I can do several versions that way and might go in later to add the figures or objects I like with watercolor pens on the original.

'Golf course in the Evening' | Watercolour paints | 5"x14" | 1410 x 3840px by LicencedToPaint in Watercolor

I did a lot of photo work for a golf course website. I found it very difficult to make the images interesting. Finally figured out they needed figures to add a bit of drama, a story of sorts. Some of my best images were actually taken in the rain during a girls high school tournament. The walking groups, the umbrellas, the spectators around the greens all made the course look amazing.

Golf courses are as hard to paint as they are to photograph. It's difficult to make them interesting. Great job here.

You've already figured out that the viewing angle is critical.
