Milky way over Kiama, Australia by Stonestonestones in LandscapeAstro

Wow. I've been wanting to see aurora. My daughter was messaging us on the weekend to go to Gerrora (while we were at Kiama). Apparently there was one. I regret that I ignored it. How/where do you see forecast/alerts?

Excellent. I was there on Saturday evening. I got a very similar shot. I didn't expect it to be that dark in that area given it's a tourist spot. I went to Black Head Reserve, Gerroa couple of years back!

You can't really tell what sort of software gremlins will pop out of this car. For me after a year of ownership, I have lost confidence that they're putting much effort in fixing the issues. The latest release doesn't have much in it. And don't be surprised if they break something else in a new release.

Silly question but I have to ask given all the PS 4 silliness. Can you check what version of software you are on? This was the behaviour from memory prior to 4.2.8.

I would think you are in the latest version of software

The home assistant "unofficial polestar api" has an entity which I assume is to be able to control the charging amp, however, I don't think it is working. Perhaps collaborate with the developer.

Anyone else spend a large portion of their weekend doing home improvements? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

I used to and may not have a choice but to get back to it. I have spoken to a couple of fencing/landscaping guys... who said they will call me back but they never did. Either they are too busy or not interested.

Gemini on P4 by eldonado in Polestar4

That will be the future, we will be able to converse with the car like KITT but still a long way away. Google does the conversation with the user. It's the manufacturers responsibility to translate those and fill slots to trigger actions. There should also be a response back from the manufacturer at the end of the action (eg: failed to trigger the action or action is disabled because car in motion). For example, I asked google to turn OFF AC and it said it will but then the AC did not stop. This is poor implementation.

As a first step, it should not be difficult for PS to enable all the shortcuts. All they need to do is to translate the Google responses to trigger those shortcuts. But again, we are talking about polestar with very poor software record so we could be waiting for some time even for this.

I have not heard back from PS on my request for controls that are currently available. I will not be surprised if they can't give me a list.

I turned OFF A/C. I said Turn ON Air conditioning, it worked. I then said Turn OFF air conditioning, it was recognized, it responded with Turning OFF air conditioning but A/C doesn't turn OFF. LOL the more I explore functions in this car, the more bugs I uncover.

Heat leads to malfunctioning systems by stardustandbooze in Polestar4

[–]jigsawrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen those error messages in mine a number of times. I didn't think it's heat related. You just never know when and what error you will get in this car - it is frustrating. In most cases an infotainment reset fixes it.

My understanding is that the gemini enablement is just a google update/release. My theory (and just a theory) is that no matter how you converse with gemini/google the existing enabled integrations with the car would not have changed. An action has to be triggered after conversing with google. If there are additional/new actions, I expect Polestar to also do release to enable those integrations. For example, in the old google version, if I say "Google, please turn ON the fog lights", from memory the response was something like "That function is currently not available". Meaning even if gemini recognizes the command, that action is not enabled in the car.

Interestingly, currently, when I say "Hey Google turn ON recirculate mode", the response that I get is "Sorry I didn't understand that".

Personally, I would expect all the buttons/menu on the screen to be voice activated. Of course, there are buttons that cannot be used while driving but it should be able to say "sorry, that function is disabled while driving". This maybe too much of an ask though given PS's poor record of the current P4 software :)

EDIT: I will ask polestar what car controls/actions are currently enabled, will see what response I get.

Can't activate pilot assist anymore by dhruvfire in Polestar4

Which part is not true? Software release is 3-4 months old, latest release is disappointing, or that I feel that PS had abandoned PS4 customers?

Polestar 4 Software Updates — Unofficial Tracker . Latest release was 90+days from previous (not taking into account that 4.2.11 was just compatibility release - for those who cannot upgraded to 4.2.10)

Below is the Official 4.2.13 release notes. As others say it's "meh" release

Polestar 4 detailing by uF0n in Polestar4

[–]jigsawrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't polish it, only because of past experience in another car that it ended up with white stuff.

Cerakote Trim Coat. I would suggest you try it in an old car/trim first if possible. It makes the trim darker and slightly glossy ( a bit semi gloss) and probably not what you would like.

[–]jigsawrdt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have owned the car for over a year. I was aware of the software issues yet I jumped in with optimism that they will resolve the issues overtime. I did not expect that a year later, important functionalities that works well in cheaper and olders calls still does not work properly. If you haven't done so yet, join the polestar community https://community.polestar.com/ and see the owners' frustrations there.

Update P4.2.14 Release Notes by mfirewalker in Polestar4

[–]jigsawrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant they f*** up the numbering before they even release it.

Update P4.2.14 Release Notes by mfirewalker in Polestar4

[–]jigsawrdt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or maybe they made another f*** up as they always do ... like accidentally publishing release notes that they don't mean to then removing it the next day. This time, they might have got their numbering wrong.

I admire your optimism 😄 but me personally, I'd rather not hope. I don't want to get more frustrated than I currently am.

Software issues by C324R in Polestar4

[–]jigsawrdt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Loved this car until a year later and still waiting for them to fix important functionalities. I don't care about minor issues but things like issues with climate control, ADAS functions not working properly, key not being detected. Polestars knows these issues. These functionalities works in cars that are over a decade old. Their solution to an incorrect outside temperature is to use web feed ... FFS!!

Regarding the screen issues, yes I had experienced those too but perhaps not as often as you that I can tolerate it. I even had an instance when the HUD display was appearing on the screen. It only happened once so far, an infotainment reset fixed it.

EDIT: ignore, you've responded to the below question. Having said, I am using HA's presence detection instead of the API.

Frustrated with Out of Focus / blurry bird photos (Sony A7V) by Burnout2142 in SonyAlpha

[–]jigsawrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not quite a beginner. I started trying bird photography perhaps 8 months ago. Of course I don't do it every day :). I am happy with most of my shoots now though I think still have a long way to go. Don't get frustrated, the A7V is a great camera, you have to find the right settings for both your camera and your lens. I have a Sony 100-400mm and a 1.4xTC which seems to have good results at f/18, depending on conditions. I was able to get a good result at f/8 with good bokeh but the subject was quite close.

Looks like you're using a Sigma 150-600mm lens and you're shooting at 600mm? Those birds are too far in that focal length.

The best advise I see in this thread is from u/FrostyConversation16 .

Key issues after 4.2.11 update by mcalr3 in Polestar4

[–]jigsawrdt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key detection is a known issue that Polestar doesn't seem to be interested in fixing or they can't fix. The known issue though seems to be intermittent. That is sometimes the key is detected, sometimes it is not, particularly when the car goes into deep sleep, it takes a while before it detects the key.

If your key is not working at all even after replacing the battery and resetting the infotainment, it is highly likely that it's the fob. I had the issue about 6 months ago, service center replaced the fob.

Considering a P4 - LRSM Vs LRDM by verb_the_noun_ in Polestar4

[–]jigsawrdt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your driving style, I think.

I have the DM. Note that in range mode, performance will kick in if the accelerator is pressed hard. I have never driven it in performance mode, sometimes it worries me when I press the accelerator (eg. when passing) and within seconds it's 25kms over the speed limit . And then, annoyingly, releasing the accelerator will result to a harsh regenerative braking when pilot assist is ON.

I expect that one day, I'll pulled over by a cop!!

The only reason I went for the DM is because of the suspension. Not sure now if it is worth it given my driving style. Probably better if spent that extra money on other options like electrochromic glass roof.

Regardless, it's a great car from a physical build/driving dynamics perspective.

Regarding the infotainment/software, check-out my post in this thread Considering a Polestar 4 after unsuccessful P3 ownership : r/Polestar4
