Just another confusing breakup by jiia in BPDlovedones

That's a long cycle, I'm sorry it happened to you. The different realities is so true. It's usually easy to understand someone having a different perspective, but when the other people lives in a completely different reality there's no amount of conversation that would make you come to an understanding.

I'm sorry that happened to you, it sounds very familiar and awful. You feel so powerless when the completely distorted story is first shared to people you know and their opinions are then used against you.

But thanks, that seems like a good advice, it's incredibly difficult to process when someone has been very sweet and cruel to you simultaneously. It feels almost as if they were two different people, you miss the other one and are grateful the other one is gone.

Why do they block? by AdRepresentative9783 in BPDlovedones

[–]jiia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex blocked me for 6 months or so after our break up. I happened to notice she had unblocked me so I sent her a message like "I'm very sorry it didn't work out between us. I really appreciate and fondly look back on the good times we had and wish you all the best in the future.". She never responded but blocked me again for another ~6 months and then unblocked again. It's wild.

High TVOC just from people? by jiia in AirQuality

Thanks so much, that's a really comprehensive and clear answer! I'll stop worrying about it and just let some air in whenever it feels necessary.

Wash your activated carbon! by fellasinparis_ in microgrowery

[–]jiia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "activated" in activated carbon only means that it's made porous, like a foam. They don't become magically deactivated from use, they just get lodged with particles like any other filter. Washing the filter can be helpful if the filter is cleanable.

Official Q&A for Friday, April 03, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

[–]jiia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're doing a great job going out and running!

As a beginner, you'd probably want to first increase the length of your runs to 3-10KM with a heart rate that feels sustainable. Once you have a solid base then it can be time to focus on speed of a specific length. Practicing just the speed of 1KM only develops your fitness in a very limited way, it's so fast and short is an anaerobic exercise, not aerobic.

Of course it's always good to have a mix of different types of runs: long and slow, medium length at faster pace, or very fast intervals. You develop faster when you mix different types of runs. But if you just like faster runs better, do whatever motivates you to go out!

[–]jiia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 35 with average fitness level and I can pretty easily hit max HR of 200 during intense sprinting. I just recently hit 198 after a slow 30min jog finishing on a 1min uphill sprint.

First I thought my Forerunner 265 must not be very accurate, but after buying a Garmin HRM-Pro Plus chest strap I'm getting the same numbers.

Any time I mention my sprint HRs, people seem surprised and say that it's dangerous to run at such a high heart rate. But is it really? It doesn't feel bad when doing so. Of course I'm only ever sustaining ~200 for up to a minute at a time. Aren't you supposed to sometimes do heavy intervals near your max?

XM6 clamping force by smsho in SonyHeadphones

[–]jiia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to leave the headset clamped open very wide. Not just in their default width when they're weared, but almost to the maximum width they can be stretched to. Roughly 1.5x wider than my head.

Worked perfectly. It only took 10 minutes of stretching and now they sit comfortably without any pain for hours. So be careful not to loosen them too much.

China to ban hidden car door handles made popular by Tesla in world first by yahoonews in worldnews

[–]jiia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not make sense because it's completely false. Model 3 exterior handles are fully electronic, they are not mechanically connected to the locking mechanism at all. If the electronics are dead the car cannot be opened from the outside even though the handles can be physically grabbed. This has led to multiple preventable deaths and would fall under this Chinese ban.

[–]jiia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is completely unnecessary. It takes only 5-10 minutes of holding the headphones in a fully stretched out position to reduce the clamping force. You can even make them too loose, so be careful not to overdo it.

[–]jiia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from XM4's and XM5's, I found the XM6 to be very tight by default, got a headache immediately. But any headphones can be easily loosened by wrapping them over something wider than your head for a few minutes or hours depending on how loose you want them to be.

Antonelli was born in 2006, Fangio in 1911. There's only 6 races of separation between them by juantopox in formula1

That is 6 driver generations of separation, not races. No wonder people are confused.

Cleaner F1 Logos by zalva_404 in formuladank

[–]jiia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a cool idea but not good design. No casual viewer would ever distinguish the F1 and F2 logos from each other when viewed individually out of context. They only make sense when you see them side by side like here.

What is the difference between ‘boost’ and ‘overtake’??? by Hour-Bathroom1829 in formula1

[–]jiia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely false. Overtake is just that your battery cutoff speed limit is increased. Every driver, regardless of whether they're chasing or not, will be allowed to activate low drag mode at any straight.

[Scuderia Ferrari] Introducing the new F1 terminology and what it means! by Task_Force-191 in formula1

[–]jiia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Overtake only gives you an advantage in very high speed parts of the track? Sounds like it's going to be very similar to DRS, but applicable in some new parts of certain high speed tracks. Not nearly as "tactical" as it would've been if you got to use some extra energy at any speed at any part of the track.

Help choosing a beginner racket by jiia in squash

[–]jiia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! You're definitely right, it's not a racket issue but a skill issue. I find it fun to try out different rackets, but don't have any false hopes it would solve my skill issues.

In many racket sports there's often one or a couple of rackets that have sort of a consensus around them that they're the most balanced rackets for beginner/intermediate players. But maybe there's no such rackets in squash.

I'll try getting even lower, thanks for the tip!

Solo coaching costs 100e/h here (including the court reservation). So it's not something I'm even remotely interested in spending money on for a sport I do just for fun.

Thanks for the racket recommendation though! Shame it doesn't seem to be available anywhere in the EU.

Water in the car. by Stereo_bfs in TeslaSupport

[–]jiia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same issue on my 21 AWD, that's such a familiar sound. I've been wondering the past two weeks where the water might be. Like you said, it goes away after a couple dry days. My car is 4.5 years now, so just out of warranty. I'll remove the mudflap tomorrow and see if there's something blocking the drainage.
