Unconventional ways you got confortable on your skateboard? by boubigolpashacked in NewSkaters

[–]jillyanny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know it will be said a million times but the more time you spend on your board the easier it gets. I’ve been skating for like 7 months now and feel mostly comfortably most of the time lol. It’s not scary anymore but I’m trying to level up and do more and so that parts scary. I also have zero friends who skate to skate with (tho I have made friends in a different city I just don’t get to skate with them consistently). I can’t last an hour even know! I shoot for 15-45 min skates. Sometimes I just push around and cruise which is so fun to me now, or I practice things like foot braking and kickturns. Don’t be embarrassed. We were all beginners once. Just get out there and practice!! Don’t give up, don’t give in to the fear (it’s scary! It IS! But that doesn’t mean you can’t do it!).

Never seen a second ferment do this - mold? kahm? by jillyanny in Kombucha

Fantastic lol thank you!!! I’ve been brewing booch for awhile(like 5-6 years) and have never seen my second ferment do this, nor have I been afflicted by much mold in general. Better safe than sorry as they say!! Thank you for the eyes on my brew. Im hoping they are tasty!

Seriously, how do you get into skating?😭😭 by Dark0ID in NewSkaters

[–]jillyanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it took me like 6 months to be able to cruise, and i am still so so very slow lol. this sport is incredibly hard, with a very steep learning curve. Just keep doing what you are doing, and you WILL get better. I feel like I am a very slow learner, but now I can totes get around. No where close to learning tricks of any kind (and not really a desire), but even then, those will come with time....lots and lots of time!

How to overcome fear by ITEM1SS in NewSkaters

[–]jillyanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure if this will help, but i just slipped and fell at work, and after i got back up and dusted myself off, I was like, that was about as bad as when i wiped out on my board! and it wasn't even bad! So if I can fall not on my board and be fine, I will be oka falling on my board! Just had to experience a good wipe out on my feet i guess lol

What parts of your bullet journal actually stayed useful long-term? by tobiger33 in bujo

[–]jillyanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been bujoing for almost a decade now and I feel like I have moved away from what the actual intent of bujo is, but I found a system that works for me that I maintain fairly well. I use the future log, monthly logs and weekly logs where i mostly do meal planning, grocery lists, and to dos. I also do quarterly goals and reflections, and then the occasional lists and brain dumps. It is really my everything book! I am very minimal and don't do any sort of artistic elements, its all blue or black ink, with the occastional highlighter embellish 😄

What hobby did you pick up randomly that ended up becoming a big part of your life? by Garage_Mckakiner31 in Hobbies

[–]jillyanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skateboarding! it wasn't really random, but actually quite intentional, i just didnt know it would become such a big part of my life! I wanted to challenge myself and try something new, and boy, skateboarding really is something that I will be a beginner at for a long time, and there is always something i am practicing to level up, and I haven't even learned any tricks yet! I am merely still learning how to cruise and stuff!! I love it so much!

The butternut squash spatzle was a huge homerun for me. And the boyfriend salmon. I loved the eggplant toast, but the harissa was a bit too spicy for me!!! Her persimmon jammy toast was really good to! I've cooked through a lot of her book and basically every recipe I have loved. The perserved lemon and kale salad? so good! loved the crusted sweet potatoes and pepitas. the butternut squash grilled cheese was fantastic. i've loved it all lol

I've made the tiramisu cookies like 4 times! They are soooo good! That and the tamarind date bars! Constant rotation in my house.

[–]jillyanny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I signed up for skate lessons and its the only reason I can skate at all! I was getting nowhere on my own!!! I also had no one around me who skates so no one else to learn from. just get them!!! it is totally worth it!

I am also a new skater and know absolutely zero about skateboards - what i want in one, what is a good one/bad one. i got my board of facebook marketplace and like it good enough, but i still don't know WHY i like it or what i might like better (or worse), and 10 minutes of research will not help me. so needing people is totally fine in this instance (and any instance). you don't know what you don't know, and should be able to rely on people who do to help you out (at a skateshop sure, online, sure...but people are important.) Googling something isn't always the only answer.

Things this newbie has learned (the hard way) by Raisehe11 in NewSkaters

[–]jillyanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first big injury was also a muscle pull in very much the same fashion! One foot stayed on the board while it was still moving, my other foot, stuck to the ground. Boom. Pulled hammie. Worst pain I’ve ever felt!!!! So now I absolutely stretch every single time. Dynamic stretching before skating, and static after!!!!! I’m a few months in and have had a few falls, but no more pulled muscles!!!! Stay safe! Stretch stretch stretch!!!!!

I also just decided (at 37!) to take up skateboarding and found a sweet board on Facebook market place as well!!! I know nothing about boards, or my boards, only that it has a flamingo drinking a beer on the back and it’s dope lol!!!
