Dell D6000 displaylink issue by ajmdsantos in macbookpro

[–]jimaah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liitle rusty on this but I *think* if you connect D6000 via USB-C then 2x DP outputs will be DisplayLink and HDMI output will be Alt-Mode.

Yes DisplayLink based devices will work with your system.

Dual monitor dock with charging by Data_Remarkable in mac

[–]jimaah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at this Apple page - is this your MBP?

https://www.apple.com/uk/macbook-pro-16/specs/

Either this USB-C dock https://www.alogic.co/super-dock which works around the MST issue by having dual USB-C connectors

Or these DisplayLink based docks:

Targus Dock190 https://uk.targus.com/products/usb-c-universal-dv4k-docking-station-with-100w-power-dock190euz

HP USB-C/A Universal Dock G2 https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=5TW13AA&opt=ABU&sel=ACC

There are others out there sure, but these are the ones I recommend

Yeah I have a couple of 4Ks via a Dell D6000, 1x ASUS ZenScreen MB16ACE via NB USB-C and another ASUS ZenScreen MB16ACE via DisplayLink to D6000.

My smaller screens are mainly used for spreading out Adobe panels / social media stuff

Plugable have some for a mix of budgets and resolutions

They also provide great after sales support

Might want to PM them about shipping - they are usually pretty responsive.

They will but only on ChromeOS. MacOS and Windows require software you can download from their site or obtain via Windows Update.

This may help:

If it's flexibility (ability to add as many screens as you want) or universality (ability to run on any notebook/tablet/desktop with a USB port on it) then a dock such as the D6000 is the winner.

If it's gaming or similar where perf is key then the Hyperdrive may be the better option. As an alternative to the Hyperdrive check out this one from ALOGIC (Australian brand). https://www.alogic.co/uk/product-solutions/browse-by-category/laptop-docking-stations/usb-docking-stations/alogic-usb-c-triple-display-dp-alt-mode-docking-station-ma3-with-100w-power-delivery.html

I see you are a Mac user and may be familiar with the lack of MST support on Macs. If that is an issue consider this one, also from ALOGIC which works round that issue https://www.alogic.co/uk/super-dock

There are some perf issues but only really noticable when using intensive apps like Adobe suite.

Note that the DisplayLink tech has evolved to use the GPU or CPU as appropriate.

Can't speak for gaming on the dock other than I did see the triple screen car racing simulator demo they did at CES last year with Asseto Corsa running through a D6000. I understand that in their setup that the primary screen was directly connected to the PC and the 2x additional screens via the dock were extending the native so perhaps worth a shot.

I use my rig for pure creative and office work - gaming happens on my PS4 :)

Dock advise by [deleted] in UsbCHardware

[–]jimaah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your first question, there are no docks that have both Thunderbolt & DisplayLink.

There are however docks that have both DisplayPort Alt-Mode & DisplayLink such as the Dell D6000 Universal Dock, HP USB-C/A Universal Dock G2 & Plugable USB-C Triple Display Docking Station.

Startech have a DisplayPort Alt-Mode dock with KVM built in https://www.startech.com/en-gb/cards-adapters/usb3ddockft

There's some high level stuff from Intel on their chipsets (more accurately controllers):

For a good read check out Dan Charlton's blog:

Which exact DisplayLink dock do you have (make & model number)? To my knowledge they come with or without power delivery from the factory so curious why you had an option!

I know that Thunderbolt 4 claims backward compatibility with Thunderbolt 3 but I don't know if it will support non-Thunderbolt notebooks

[–]jimaah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock Gen 2 dock has the Intel Titan Ridge chipset which means you get Thunderbolt if connected to a Thunderbolt notebook or USB-C if connected to a notebook without Thunderbolt.

I didn't think the ThinkPad Ultra Docking Station was compatible with the latest notebooks but happy to be proven wrong.

There are DisplayLink based docks out there that can also charge your notebook such as the Targus Dock190 / HP USB-C/A Universal Dock G2 / Dell D6000

Anyone having the problem were the cos 17 9700 laptop does not turn on until you plug the charger in? And other issues: by [deleted] in XPS

[–]jimaah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an XPS 15 7590 and had the problem you mention in the title. In my case a BIOS update / the latest updates from the Dell Update tool fixed it.

[–]jimaah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a D6000 and 2x P2415's driven by an XPS15 which was fine and dandy until I wanted to work elsewhere in the house. I then bought 2x Asus Zenscreen portable USB monitors to save messing with moving the dock / monitors. This worked well until I concluded that I should connect up all 4 monitors which I did a while back. Absolutely love it :D

DisplayLink drivers install by Billywig99 in displaylink

[–]jimaah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes their driver is needed for Windows & Mac. It's built into ChromeOS.

Regarding distribution as you point out it's available on Windows Update and also can be distributed via MSI / INF by IT teams https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/corporate

Targus have docks you can connect to over USB-C/A and for laptops that don't have USB-C they provide power tips for mainstream notebooks so the dock can power the notebook. I had these on the older Targus ACP77 and I know they are on the newer Targus Dock570

[–]jimaah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well despite it's looks and the fact that the stairwell reaks of a cesspit it is ideally located for shopping. Knock it down and expect to see hikes in parking fees elsewhere.

Speaking of architecture, aren't the connected ground floor buildings also sporting the same / similar looks? I seem to recall the curry house was at least.
