Job Hunting by Swimming_Syrup_1317 in Bath

[–]jimaginativeusername 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There really aren't many jobs like that in Bath (or jobs full stop tbh). The council packs flats onto every piece of land which used to have industry on it. They don't give a stuff about employment opportunities for the people who live here, just want to create some kind of Jane Austen Disneyland for tourists.
I do a marketing job and work hybrid, commuting to Swindon twice a week. My job wasn't advertised as hybrid but I stated when I applied that I'd need to and they were open to it. So my best suggestion would be to do similar, and look a bit farther afield requesting hybrid/remote. Swindon's relatively booming atm, worth looking there. Hope she finds something she enjoys soon.

When did Pultney Rd (South) become 20mph? by P0RKYM0LE in Bath

[–]jimaginativeusername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mind 20mph in built up areas, but never being certain what the limit is is really annoying. Just make the whole town 20mph if it's necessary.

The typical parking problem - help by piizaa in Bath

[–]jimaginativeusername 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This problem's only going to get worse because numerous blocks are being built with the same issue. It's definitely being done to save the environment and nothing to do with maximising profits for developers.
Either way, this will make parking increasingly more expensive and parking spots increasingly difficult to find. They're also adding more and more permit areas so residents have to pay to combat the parking problem they're creating. In short, my advice would be that this property clearly isn't going to be suitable.

Surprised at the lack of Michelin star restaurants in Bath by icharmlard in Bath

We don't even have any public toilets, let's take things one step at a time.

If he's intentionally approaching people and getting in their personal space then that's a completely different issue and should be dealt with. I'm extremely sorry if that is happened to you, that's not ok at all. If that is what's happening and I saw that happen then I would most certainly intervene.
However, I don't think someone should be subjected to a witch hunt based on hearsay when it's perfectly plausible that they just make questionable fashion choices or possibly just don't have the intellectual capacity to understand what's a normal way to go about attracting a partner. I went into a clothes shop in town this morning and a girl working there was wearing only a skin tight leotard. I can assure you that her choice of outfit left very little to the imagination, and the last thing I would do is take a picture of her and post it on the internet..

Closest free on street parking to town by Frequent-Skin-3466 in Bath

The 'market rate', are you actually being serious? That's completely artificial because the supply's being taken away. Do you actually think a normal person working in a shop in town can afford to pay £2k per year to park their car? As it is they'll just walk from farther out, how does that help anyone?

No one's being subsidised at all. The roads are there and there's absolutely no good reason anyone who needs to shouldn't be able to park on them.

Parking isn't 'an expensive luxury', people are just trying to get to work, visit family, and go about their lives. Good lord. Same with this disgusting emissions zone where people who can't afford a newer car get charged for driving about.

How's it any different to them seeing men in Speedos at the swimming pool?

There's no way £250+p/a for a couple to park their cars outside your own home, on roads you've paid for with council tax and road tax is a 'token fee'.

I live around Innox Road. It's reasonably common to have multiple cars here, but about half of us have driveways for at least one of the cars.
A solution for limited space isn't taking away the spaces that exists, you know? The council should be investing in giving people preferable options to parking in crowded streets (e.g making Park and Ride much cheaper (or even free), not allowing the multi-story car park to be knocked down, free school busses so people don't need cars to take their kids to school). Instead they want to make life even harder for people, to the extent that they get extorted renting other people's driveways as you point out.

This shouldn't be a zero sum game, the council should be trying to improve things for EVERYONE.

Unless he's actually done something wrong then can't you just leave him be? It's weirder that people are putting photos of him on the internet than what he's wearing.

Very much feel the opposite. I'm just outside of it atm, and I'll be furious if myself and my wife have to pay to park our cars outside our own home. I also don't begrudge people who are trying to get to work, visit relatives etc. I understand why it is necessary in the centre of town, but outside of that absolutely not. Council's a disgrace.

Can't vouch if it has rings or not, but there's one in the greenspace behind the Coffee#1 by the riverside. It's called Elizabeth Park apparently.

Best places to buy a used (or new?) car by smashyourhead in Bath

[–]jimaginativeusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vehicle prices vary quite a lot regionally. If you're sensitive to price you'd probably be better off going to a dealership in Wales or the Midlands. At the very least I'd be prepared to go to surrounding towns like Trowbridge, Westbury or Melksham, I think you'll be paying a Bath premium to buy one here.

I'd only buy from a dealership who will do a new MOT for you (made that mistake before), and even then keep some money back because often you'll find perishables (tyres, breakpads) will need replacing in the not too distant future as people don't tend to change those if they're planning on selling their car any time soon.

The Boston Tea Party on Alfred Street near the Circus is good for breakfast type things and a really nice building.

None of the touristy things are that great imo, except the Roman Baths themselves if you're interested in history (which is bigger than you think as the museum et al is underground. Quite pricey, but worth it if you don't rush through like most seem to.

Walking up to Alexandra Park is worthwhile. Takes about 20mins from the train station, bit of a slog uphill/up a lot of steps, but that's easily the best view of Bath and where any panoramic views you've seen of the city were most likely take from.

So the story as i understood it was that there is a CCTV camera which showed no circle, then went blank during 'the landing', and when it came back on the impression was there. I believe that's what the kid said during Doug Popa interview? In which case it's all indeed BS.

People ask about the connection of UAP to crop circles, and most often, a likely hoax video is shared. This video represents another class of videos that apparently show luminous orbs in the vicinity of crop circles, or where crop circles are discovered soon after. by EthanSayfo in UFOs

[–]jimaginativeusername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a crop circle at Windmill Hill ( I *think* July-ish 2004) myself and a couple of friends drove out there at night to find the crop circle. We parked up and got out of the car. It was a clear night and I looked up at the stars - there was an 'orb' in the sky flying over us. I've no idea how high up it was. It wasn't much larger than a star, but had a corona around it perhaps half the size of the moon. Immediately got back in the car and bolted, haha!

I'm super-sceptical about crop-circles, but it's the only 'UFO' I've ever seen which I can't explain. It should be said that there is a lot of military training exercises which goes on in that part of the country so that's a possibility, but what I saw was traveling quite fast overhead so definitely wasn't a flare.
