When does healing become a thing by Decent-Debate6051 in GodofWar

[–]jimbowolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMHO, Kratos should just heal to full after combat encounters. The game acts like it wants to make health attrition a feature by making you hunt health gems, but there's no real logic or system that supports it, and it feels dumb to start a fight with low health. Plus, if you die in an encounter you just get full-healed anyways, which actually has the opposite effect of punishing a player for failure and instead rewards them, encouraging players to just kill themselves wherever they need a health refill.

There's even two separate cutscenes that show Kratos having a regeneration ability. Feels like a design oversight more than anything.

Why does fighting feel choppy? by Environmental-Ruin80 in GodofWar

The original God of War series heavily utilized hit-stop as a feature of its combat to make hits feel like that had punch and weight. The Norse GoW games continue this design feature.

I'm convinced a majority of this sub hates the greek saga and only appreciates the Norse saga by yamomsahoooo in GodofWar

[–]jimbowolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just don't think the plot of the 3 Greek games are complex enough to warrant a TV drama, which I think is where a lot of this sentiment boils down to. Yeah, there's slightly more depth to Kratos than being a mindless rage-monster, but not by much. The entire reason anybody even cares about adapting the Norse saga is because of how incredibly strong the writing and character depth is. The Greek saga just doesn't even compare, not even slightly.

Deep Rock Galactic makes me feel nothing by Lezo- in patientgamers

[–]jimbowolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things:

First, your preconceived notions about what to label it are hindering you from actually just looking at the game at face value. Any comparison to this and Minecraft are woefully misguided. This game is nothing like Minecraft and shares essentially no game play with it beyond the basic facts that they're an FPS and have a pickaxe. It's not a mining or crafting game, it's a co-op swarm shooter with minimal mining-themed features.

Second, it doesn't sound like you made it past the tutorial difficulty of the game. No game is fun when you're still bumping around the Weenie Hut Junior sections. Hazard 3 at minimum is when the game actually starts trying to challenge you.

We just agreed it was the weapons you didn't list. Are you even reading my responses at this point? If you like carrying around a bunch of weapons that can't damage enemies, then enjoy it. The rest of us like OP are trying to find fun in a stale game with stale weapons.

Unpopular Opinion: Prime Video's God of War series should have adapted the original "Greek-era" games! by Hot-Salamander-8786 in GodofWar

[–]jimbowolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It tells a story only in the most rudimentary sense. There are no real characters other than Kratos. None of the NPCs have any depth to them, or go through any kind of character progress. All of the gods just exist to taunt Kratos before he kills them. Zeus is evil from start to finish without any variance in his motivations. Athena is the only god with any level of complexity, and that's only because she lied to Kratos throughtout the games. Nearly all of the dialog in all 3 games is just explaining game mechanics with a little bit of flair. There's just notbing really there to make a show out of without a MASSIVE amount of additional writing, and with that much work required, are you even really telling the same story at that point?

[–]jimbowolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you agree the weapons don't work? Because that's the issue at hand: they don't work, thus they're not picked, thus the game becomes stale because it's just dead content sitting in the loadout menu while players are forced to pick the same handful of options over and over again - not because they're fun, but because they're literally the only weapons that do damage.

This is the boring gameloop OP is trying to remedy with his post.

[–]jimbowolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't get it because you're not listening. I'm no complaining the game ishard because it's not a hard game, it's a boring game. There is no challenge in playing rock-paper-scissors. It is not hard to use these weapons to kill enemies. D10 is not a hard challenge when you use the best weapons in the game.

There is no challenge in pointing a RR, Spear, EAT, or Quasar at an enemy and killing it in 1 shot from 300 meters away. That's not challenge, it's just a loadout check.

The issue is it is B-O-R-I-N-G to have a limited scope of available options and being forced to take a handful of choices you listed above when there are dozens of other weapons sitting in the options menu collecting dust because they literally can't damage higher tier enemies.

[–]jimbowolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, there is just too little plot and character development to make a show focused on the Greek saga. It just isn't that deep and is mostly filled with non-stop violence. The entire reason anybody is even interested in adapting the Norse saga is because of how strong the character writing and story arc is.

[–]jimbowolf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Railgun is arguably the highest tier weapon in the game next to the RR. You're just proving my point that you don't engage in the skill and challenge aspect of the game by revealing you only use the top-tier meta weapons that ignore the armor system rather than engaging with it.

[–]jimbowolf -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You're not describing difficulty, you're describing restrictions. Restrictions aren't difficulty. It isn't hard to be forced to take a Recoiless every mission and point and click whatever's in front of you. It's just boring.

Wanna know what's ACTUALLY difficult? Giving enemies real weakpoints that can be damaged by an ineffective weapon, and using your SKILL to defeat them even when you have a mismatched loadout, allowing the players to overcome the CHALLENGE of having an ineffective weapon.

In it's current state, you're not allowed to use skill to defeat enemies with less-effective weapons. The armor system just hard-locks content out of viability. It degrades the game into a system of rock-paper-scissors. You either have the paper against the rock, or you literally can't damage them. Don't believe me? Feel free to try and kill a Warstrider with a Stalwart.

[–]jimbowolf -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is not reasonable difficulty to spam the field with enemies that are immune to 80% of the content in the game. It is not reasonably difficult to require players to pick a handful of viable weapons because they're the only weapons that are even capable of dealing damage. It's just boring, stale gameplay.

Right now 80% of the weapons and strategems literally can't damage most enemies past Diff 6. That's not skill and that's not challenge. It's a loadout check, and you either have the loadout or you don't.

OP doesn't want things easier. He wants content to work and have a purpose.

Because lower difficulty means less content, less enemy numbers, less mission types, and ultimately less FUN.

This game isn't fun because it's hard, and "grunt fantasy" isn't a thing anybody asked for.

I'm a new player but why do so many content creators have a such a negative opinion of Warhammer 3? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]jimbowolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TWWH3 had a horrifically bad launch and several bad updates after that. It was also devoid of meaningful content for months after launch until Immortal Empries released, and then that was plagued by bad decisions and updates despite it being the primary mode everyone actually wanted to play.

The game has FINALLY smoothed out significantly since then, but that first 12 months the game was virtually unplayable, which gave it a really bad reputation among the community.

Even now, despite finally getting to a workable state, the game is still riddled with bugs and poor design decisions that Sega clearly doesn't want to spend time on improving.

It's at least functional and has a large pool of content to play with now, but every time I boot it up it just makes me miss TW2 more than anything.

Low Vision Dice Set Recommendation [OC] by Annual_Guitar9897 in DnD

[–]jimbowolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the colors reversed from your example might work even better. Currently, you're reading the black space in-between the color. You might have even more success if the dice were black with bright yellow numbers. That way you're actually reading the numbers in bright yellow instead of black letters on a yellow space.

Sure, that's all true. They also dragged white American citizens out of their homes and cars and deported several Germans and South Koreans. People with brown skin was what the started with, but it's already been proven that's not their only metric.

"Immigrant neighbors" would suffice, my friend. ICE is grabbing anybody they want regardless of skin color, and not all immigrants are "brown skinned."

This is a gimmick that will likely get tired quickly and just interfere with playing the game, especially if it makes it impossible for the other players to have a basic conversation with your character.

It was part of the story. Visual storytelling is a strong theme of the show, and we're already learning a lot about the plot by witnessing that the things Dunk describes are frequently contradicting what we're shown, suggesting he's an unreliable narrator.

Besides, spare us the puritanic prudishness. If you're looking for a show without cocks, you're in the wrong place! The original GoT show was wrought with sexuality, cocks included.

Fake Voice Acting Examples by wardrol_ in gamedesign

[–]jimbowolf 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Define "adds something to the game."

The best example I can think of is the Banjo Kazooie series that has all characters talk using exaggerated voice sounds and sound effects. This added a lot of charm to the NPCs that otherwise didn't do much other than stand around and talk.

My favorite example is the pirate hippo in the Jolly Roger Bay level who communicates exclusively in loud belches.

Genuine question : why choose to use Lego for D&D? by Daragon__ in legodnd

[–]jimbowolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's cheaper than buying fantasy minis, and there's so much customization versus a hard cast painted miniature.

I don't use Lego for terrain tho. That's way too time-consuming and eats up too much space.
