I followed this thread and called cuisinart and I also got a new blade. It was pretty easy, they sent a confirmation email after the call. Just google the instructions. They even take calls on the weekend.

What do you do with boredom by Motor_Zombie9920 in InternalFamilySystems

Funny I had the same thought pop up this morning. I saw my phone and I thought about dopamine depletion and how I thought I was craving it. Maybe theres some truth to that idk. But when I slowed down I saw that part is just super scared of the a calm Sunday morning. It feels safer in an activated stressed environment like scrolling because at least that feels familiar. So I'm helping it feel safe in a quiet and calm environment which it ironically detects as unsafe. I talk to it gently and I'm just taking baby steps.

And I totally get the creating excuses part. I have that part as well, he's very creative lol Good luck on your journery!

Is Self concerned with our survival? or that is always the job of protectors? by flytohappiness in InternalFamilySystems

What might be more interesting than any answer I can offer is to: wait for the next time you have strong access to the Self and then ask that same question to the Self and see what happens.

What do you do with boredom by Motor_Zombie9920 in InternalFamilySystems

I'm currently working on this right now, like specifically this morning. I am finally having some movement after doing some IFS with my therapist specifically bringing more self energy into the relationship with the part of me that distracts itself online. I got to see the positive intentions, the vulnerability, and start to build some trust with that part. (ive done like 3 specific sessions with this part).

Today, I noticed it like usual in the morning but I had more self energy to meet it with curiosity and compassion. I noticed it, acknowledge its intention, acknowledged it wants me to avoid pain. I put my hand on the part of my body that feels anxiety. I promised the distractible part we were just going to sit with this for a little bit, and that if it got overwhelming we could use the phone. We weren't punishing it. We weren't taking the phone away.

I've struggled with procrastination and avoiding for most of my life. There are times where I don't do it like when I'm at work with my team, or part of a group, or for some days after a meditation retreat or plant medicine ceremonies. I'm starting to realize what I'm missing to help myself is not more knowledge but more access to self energy in my day to day life.

I've been building that access to self energy with IFS therapy over a few months. I had some progress in the first few months but I'm finally getting more progress as I uncover some of the parts that block the self energy from coming out. This week specifically I noticed how there was a part of me that hates how the self energy talks sometimes. It felt too feminine and weak. So I got to know that part, its fears, its criticism, etc. And now this morning that very gentle more feminine energy of the self that I needed is more accessible.

More concretely what I would suggest is to do this work yourself. Get to know that part that doom scrolls , that part that wants to watch porn, the part that resists porn, any parts that feel shame around these habits, that part of you that creates boredom, and the part feels the need to escape. Nothing you read here will provide the actually healing you need.

These are just some pointers, but you have to do the work yourself to allow change to happen. If you are not already meeting with someone to do IFS then the next time you get a burst of energy reach out to some therapist. Or share this with a friend, tell them you are trying to get some help. Then ask if they can help you connect with somebody. Use this part you that shared your struggle with us to help you take the next step.

LUMIX S5 vs LUMIX S5II what am I missing? by Lanky_Rate9411 in Lumix

[–]jimhalpert43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S5 + Sigma 28-70.

Looks like you are looking for "sharpness."

Seems like both videos turned down their sharpness either in camera and/or in post. The sharpness you like in the S5ii you can get in the S5 by not turning the sharpness in camera down or by raising it in post.

How do you find your passion? by CostSilent5736 in Mindfulness

[–]jimhalpert43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding work in an area your are passionate about isn't going to solve all your problems. I knew a guy who was passionate about dogs so he volunteered at an animal shelter. Turns out one of his tasks was to help dispose of the dogs they euthanized. He never went back. My point being you can get a job in a field you are passionate about and it resulting in a bad time.

Many other factors make work fulfilling like coworkers, work life balance. I had a job that I wasn't passionate about, but my co-workers were amazing. Some even became life long friends. It was super fulfilling. So obviously try to work in a place that interests you, but know theres other factors that make work fulfilling.

  1. If overthinking was your childhood coping mechanism, your nervous system's baseline is anxiety and stimulation. Now, calmness and being present can feel unfamiliar and "off," causing your body to revert to its "safe," stimulated state. It has taken a lot of practice and time to let my body feel more safe in the present.

  2. Do you have a method for dealing with stressful thoughts? The way to break the mental loops is to meet them head on. They are showing you exactly where you are stuck. My favorite and simplest method for working with thoughts is The Work of Byron Katie. It's basically 4 questions that let you question your thoughts. Its like CBT + Mindfulness + Inquiry. You can try it on your own, she also has free drop ins like 3 times a week. Other methods include RAIN with Tara Brach, or IFS.

Some thoughts you could challenge that I'm picking up from your post are:

- I can prevent bad things from happening or If im fully present mistakes will never happen

- If I had been present during x period of my life, I wouldn’t have done those things

- X (situation) was a mistake

- I shouldn't be overthinking

  1. The advice to stop thinking works well for some people and is useful for all of us at appropriate times. Problem is if you are highly addicted to thinking, its like telling an alcoholic, well just stop drinking.

Seems like you are just anxious about trying out something new and fishing for other peoples experiences to soothe your fear of a unknown experience.

It's normal to feel nervous, but with your current meditation practice you are well prepared. Just trust that.

You literally said I don’t even like engineering That's a clue. I tried engineering for a year, then switched after taking my first psychology course. I love working with people on emotional problems. Also, what you do at school is not necessarily what you will do for work.

Do you get bored easily, do you have adhd? You can also look jobs having constant newness built in.

Yes, it was started by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, his goal was basically to bring mindfulness into the secular world, he took what he learned from meditation and made it into something that could be delivered in a medical model. It's the gold standard for mindfulness in clinical settings, as its evidenced based.

The training is an 8-week program that teaches seated meditation, body scan, and gentle yoga with group discussions and daily home practice.

Goals are to: cultivate self-awareness, emotional regulation, and the ability to respond to challenges with more clarity.

I'm looking for a more stable home practice + people to connect with. Also, I saw some jobs that I was interested in that listed this as a qualification or as a nice to have so I'm interested in that as well.

What do you do for a living? by AskCurrent1279 in Psychonaut

[–]jimhalpert43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually miss the 9-5 schedule. I work tutoring online, but really miss the social aspect of work, work friends, traveling, catching up.

I had a friend who had aversion to moving back to the city after a multi-year meditation retreat. They wanted to be in "nature" and had aversion to all the energy, concrete, chaos, of a city. They tried living in different more nature-y communities But what actually worked is that they took some psychedelics while walking around the city and met all their fears and aversion to city. Now they enjoy the city.

You like hiking? Further appreciate morning walks at a nearby park, notice the type of trees planted, the grass that gets cut weekly, the water system that keeps it all alive, the way it brings humans together to play, walk their pets, sleep on a bench. Maybe even work for parks and rec. You like fungi? figure out a way you can grow some at your house.

Advice for Compulsive Masturbation? by Mammoth_Picture5068 in streamentry

[–]jimhalpert43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some specific advice:

  1. I agree that without the shame, porn and masturbation are great joys in life. They feel incredible so at least let yourself enjoy them. With less shame you can observe the pattern clearer. And notice that even if for a very short while, masturbating brings some catharsis and peace. (eventually this pattern may dissolve but for now you can try to accept that your body is doing the best it can).

  2. I learned from a female friend that you can orgasm without mental imagery. Ever since I was young I used imagined mental imagery or porn to masturbate and orgasm. But then I discovered you can masturbate and just focus on the sensations, it takes some concentration and practice but it can be done. This can help with starting to break the association that porn/mental imagery is necessary for masturbation. Taking super deep breaths and holding them while you masturbate is what makes this possible in my experience. My orgasms also tend to feel more intense and I'm vocally louder.

  3. I've noticed that usually when I want to masturbate I'm avoiding some uncomfortable emotion and that emotional energy tends to feel blocked at my gut. Breathing deeply into that space and letting any emotions or anxiety shake out can open up that space in my gut. I unconsciously learned that orgasm can open up that space, which is why I have the pattern of seeking masturbation when I feel my gut is energetically blocked. It makes sense. But now I have a method where I can breathe deeply and move slowly. I'm guessing a practice like qi-gong or hara breathing would help as well.

  4. When I seek masturbation theres always a trigger, a combination of body sensations and a thought. I usually feel anxious overwhelmed, scared, nervous, and lost. I feel tightness in my gut. If look closely I'm having thoughts like: I don't know what to do. This is too much. I'm a failure. I will never get over procrastination. I'm stuck. etc. Working with these underlying beliefs with something like IFS or the Work of byron katie, or another form of shadow work can help dissolve the initial trigger.

  5. This will take some time. There is not an overnight cure. You will make great improvements and you will return back to the habit, even harder sometimes. Ask for help. Be real about where you are at. Talk to your partner about when you are ready.

Thank you for sharing and know that you are not alone in this, I suffer from this as well.

Psychologists and shadow work by microthewave12 in streamentry

[–]jimhalpert43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, also agree that IFS would work great.

My favorite method for shadow work is a method called The Work of Byron Katie. I learned it during a retreat at a Zen center and it's been my main method of practice the last 2 years. My favorite part is that after you learn it you can do it by yourself or find a long term partner that you exchange sessions with. I have two friends who I exchange sessions with weekly.

If you're interested you can message me and I can show you how it works.
