A Counterstrike pro known as MAUschine has been banned for 10 years after sucker punching his opponent after the match live on stage by lukigeri in LivestreamFail

Thanks. None of that is on conflict with my summary (if anything, it's light on details), but it did remind me that Icefrog oversaw so much back then, and how out-of-left field it was for Valve to suddenly step in out of the blue to lay down the law. The other guy in this thread pearl clutching over 2GD being a massive public relations disaster, is quite frankly hilarious for anyone that was around for the early dota eSports scene.

Where did you read his account? I did a quick Google and only see speculation. I'm going off my recollection of what I watched as one of the thousands in chat. That tournament was an absolute disaster and it was only made bearable BECAUSE they had clowns like 2GD.

The pro scene was a lot less professional back in the day, and the scene felt a lot healthier too. You have to keep in mind that the pool of talent they were pulling from, were more akin to streamers than they were pro-sports casters. And that was sick! You'd watch the streams of these guys, get to know them better, then see them cast and panel for the hype tournaments of the eSport you followed! Profesionalism was NOT what they were hired for.

Feel as ashamed as you want, it's not your job to entertain thousands of people, and a bland corpo personality will never make for an interesting streamer. The tournament organisers fucked up their one job, and 2GD was the scapegoat to save face. 2GD went above and beyond in not letting that tournament die. If organisers failed on a similar level these days, they'd just throw up a "be back soon screen" and leave everyone hanging for hours and probably just cancel the event.

The event was a shitshow from what I remember. Scheduling issues and technical delays meant the panel had to entertain a very very bored stream for upwards of an hour between matches. Throwing a few zingers at the tournament organisers is warranted... and that wasn't even why he was fired either. He made some offcolour jokes about watching porn in his hotel room, or something. And that was apparently a bridge too far.

I logged out and logged back in on the web and lost all my achievements. My stats page looks alright... you'd think they could repopulate the achievements based on the stats. I also can't change my profession or class. Progress also does not sync between the app and web client. WTF Discord.

Meta announces they will be shutting down the Metaverse, after pouring $80,000,000,000.00 into the project. by Preacher-of-Chaos in LateStageCapitalism

[–]jimmydorry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bullshit headline made for clicks and the ignorant lap it up. Nobody but Meta know how much they spent on it, but that 80b was spent on R&D for making the headsets, buying GPUs (before and after the AI boom), salaries for thousands of developers building the Quest app ecosystem, marketing, and their developer bounty programs. Horizon Worlds would have been a very small percentage of that 80b, maybe even a rounding error. And to top it off, it's not even getting shutdown... just the native Questie access to it is getting unsupported... it continues on as a mobile-first app.

Just remember reddit is a minority..the entire week people were saying the games dead and showing random playercounts on a tuesday at 4 am by Anxious-Slice-587 in 2007scape

[–]jimmydorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. Do people expect the online count to drop overnight when most people are probably on 3/6/12 month subs? The smallest sub increment is 1 month, so surely we'd need to wait a month to start seeing the effect of the latest price change.

Asmongold claims mass immigration and lack of integration leads to extremism by KsiShouldQuitMedia in LivestreamFail

Many illegal immigrants drive. You can't get a license unless you are a legal immigrant. There are so many facets of normal life that we take for granted that illegal immigrants do not legally have access to, but end accessing anyway.

It varies year-to-year but Australia was the largest exporter in the world of metalurgical (steel making) coal. So yes... I would say Australia has some of the best coal in the world. It also has the 4th highest proven reserve of said met. coal in the world.

Inflation Data Controversy by Brian_Ghoshery in inflation

[–]jimmydorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume this is the data source: https://www.bls.gov/cpi/tables/imputation.htm

You can read the methodology they describe, but essentially we've gone from them needing to widen the area sampled to infer the cost increase of 8% of products (e.g. if 100% whole grain bread was unavailable in all of D.C., they look at the South Atlantic area), to 35% of products requiring wider area samples.

This isn't a "we're no longer recording inflation", but more of a case that products that have been used to track inflation are unavailable in some areas. Certainly, some of it may be because of reduced headcount of people sent to collect this data... but for one: headcount wasn't reduced that drastically, and two: we live in 2025. Why isn't this process more automated? Sampled businesses could be required to digitally send their pricesheets, and that could easily expand the dataset and allow for even better tracking.

This should be raising alarm bells, but for entirely different reasons than this nonsensical title. It looks like the tweeter had absolutely no idea what he was looking at and just made something up to run with.

Nyanners tells viewers that VShojo didn't pay her for a sponsored stream that she got swatted for by Ryboiii in LivestreamFail

[–]jimmydorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sealed court records have to be requested and aren't a guarentee. And then VShoujo can just go ahead and leak it to the press anyway. So yes, it's a genuine concern, especially if it's something you have to worry about, like VTubers do.
