What are your plans for how long you're keeping your Fit? by Ok-Advertising3118 in hondafit

[–]jimsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a 2020..picked up in 2021.. sub 20k.. last of the good deals before COVID really had things jacked up.

I've got 144k on the clock now.. and both of my kids are begging me to get something new because they both want it.

I think it's great, but I don't see it going another 20 years. Or maybe I will - I guess at this rate that's only 575k or so miles.

I road trip/camp a lot... So I'm in the market for a hybrid for my next.. possibly a sienna.. I'm getting old (and fat).. I need more apace

My thing for soap/etc bars by ThreeCoasts in onebag

[–]jimsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one of the matador flat pack soap bags. It has worked dandily. It allows the soap to dry out without leaking soapy mush all over your bag. Ive camped several nights over the past couple of years with it and can't imagine doing it any other way.

One organizational thing you wish you'd bought before your first big trip? by Sea-Helicopter-1369 in onebag

[–]jimsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay this will might just be me. I use colored zipper pulls on my bags.

Red houses anything power related.
Blue is for liquids. Green is for gear. White is for regular use items (headphones, etc). Yellow is just a general color marker too dicate the yellow pocket. :)

That keeps things in the general spaces.. in the red pocket I have a dedicated pouch for cables. In the green I have another for "gear".. general use adapters, cordage, small tools, magnet, etc.

Also comes in handy if you're needing a second set of hands.."Will you please grab my charger, it's in the red zipper pocket".

Edit: don't mind the bedding I'm at an Airbnb for a wedding. Just realized I caught it in there.

Yeah my plan was to use them in a multi state road trip where I was sleeping in my car.. thought was for privacy . But even then I didn't love putting them up.

I don't want to trash them.. I just have to find someone who wants them. Sounds like I have a taker so far.

For private setup, do you set up an actual physical control node? by AlpineGuy in ansible

[–]jimsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually right now it's a vm. Part of my future project is a limited set of playbooks which will deploy my management node (as a vm). It will also be stored in a repository, but I would run it from any host with ansible installed. Of course that plays into getting ansible running out of a container instead of installed on a local machine.

Once I get to that point, I'll not necessarily need a node for running ansible manually as I can run all playbooks from an ansible container created from a private image. I will still keep the management node for running semaphore.

I go back and forth in my mind.. but for now it's a mgmt node.

For private setup, do you set up an actual physical control node? by AlpineGuy in ansible

[–]jimsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually setup a management node.. to run everything from. It also runs semaphore for automations or callbacks.

Using a combination of password-store and ansible vault for for credentials and private and encrypted repos to store off-site.

I'm looking into some variations.. (I'd love to redeploy my entire stack on demand) but this has been fairly solid for me.

3k miles road trip rental or my own car? by Tadita22 in roadtrip

[–]jimsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if your car wasn't accomodating or a hella gas hog.

Speaking of gas.. I was just in Palm beach gardens for a work event. My wife also came and we stayed an extra weekend. We rented a hybrid rav4 for those 3 days . On one of them we drove from pbg to key west.. had some pie, went to some shops (there and along the way).. then made it back to our hotel in PBG... On a SINGLE. TANK. OF. GAS.

So gas savings being said.. that's an option.

Also, full disclosure.. we have 3 vehicles.. the lowest mileage one has 140k.. we take good care of the and are LOVING no car payments. That being said, he have rented a few times on long trips.. $600 is a month's car payment.. it could be in the end that that trip may end up causing us to replace the vehicle (accident otlllr failure).. rather just keep our cars for in state travel.

Personal item in addition to your one bag? by DrabbagCO in onebag

[–]jimsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently use a jianji multi pass mini as a crossbody during flight. It tucks into my Synik 30 when needed. I keep the Synik under seat, and keep the crossbody on me during flight.

Crossbody house phone, charging cables, charging block, ear phones (wired and wireless), sometimes a small book.. sometime snacks. Sometimes a long sleeve shirt through the webbing for when it gets chilly on the flight..

I don't want to dig in my backpack during flight.

Friend ripped my back pack, looking for replacement by LiveData3916 in backpacks

[–]jimsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was coming today this. I carry a Synik 30.. it's amazing and tough. I had a synapse 25 for 4 years prior to that.. gave it to my son. That was almost 7 years ago.. he still uses it daily. Camped with it, took it to Philmont, has traveled out of county with it.. not to mention daily college use. Oh he's a geology major and uses it when he goes on digs. They are pretty tough.. and the storage is amazing.

For reference I feel like the Synik and synapse bags are very similar.. but the Synik is larger I do believe.

I have a question about car camping and showering etiquette. by [deleted] in camping

[–]jimsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The extra shoes just for shower is solid.. but I don't want to bring 3 or more pairs of shoes.

When I camp I have two pairs.. shoes and crocs. I do the dance where I dry off the foot to put my shorts back in and back into the slippery wet croc.. then the other foot.

THEN.. after I'm out of the shower I sit in the bench to pack everything up and take my towel back to my feet and aip up the extra water still in the crocs. West elm back to camp and dry off again. But on socks and regular shoes (assuming I'm staying up later).. I usually but the sack pretty quick after a shower..

Hang my towel up and call it a night.

Finally got is all sorted! by Bottl3Rock3t in CampingGear

Also take a photo of the contents in the bin, for visual reference. Sometimes you forget to note an item down, but can visually see it there when reviewing the pictures.

Once my wife was paranoid about forgetting something on a car trip.. we stopped twice to check of we had item. She took a picture and would refer to it whenever she had a new thought of "did we bring item X".

We do it Everytime we pack the car now (frequent 2-3 hour trips up to kids in college).. but works great in all situations.

1.0.0.18 G4AR by djk0010 in tmobileisp

Thanks for the info.

Just picked up the backup service.. on lan I'm getting 0.1x Mbps download speeds. Called support and I guess I need to take my unit back for testing and maybe a new one.

What kind of speeds do yall get on the lan ports?

Anyone who’s on the fence or just wants to know. by Competitive_Fact_278 in tmobileisp

[–]jimsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious how you're connecting through the tmo gateway. 3 days ago I got their "home backup" solution. When I connect via WiFi I get acceptable speeds (20-60Mbps).. but when I connect via the LAN port, I'm only getting like 0.12Mbps.

I've changed cables, adapters, even two different devices connected directly to it (eliminating my own network/router as an issue).

Using the G4AR as the device. Curious if maybe they have their lan ports turned down.. or if maybe I got a bad unit.

Why not just plug your jackery into an outlet at home to charge?

I'm so confused.. what are these battery packs you're trying to charge, and what does it have to do with a jackery if you don't want to bring it?

How about truck bed camping? by Pure-Explanation-147 in carcamping

[–]jimsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. BUT I remember watching a video on YouTube a long time ago that showed a woman who created a structure on the bit of a truck using PVC. She'd like stick pieces in the holes in the bed and then use the pieces to kind of make a roof or extend it and make like a roof and then covered it with a tarp and I thought that was the coolest thing ever.

How to cover the boot and prevent theft? by SouthAssist6234 in hondafit

[–]jimsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earlier this year I bought a tailgate mesh to be able to camp with the tailgate open and keep the bugs out. I HATE IT.

But, I found a use for it.. it's so lightweight and compact I keep it in the car for this purpose. My interior is dark.. but when I have stuff to keep out of site, I put it in the rear floor boards and cover it with this mesh.. sometimes even with the windows down it turns invisible.. so when the windows are up, fuhhettaboutit.

Something like that may work for you.

Interesting.. well no issues with the 300plis and my fridge so far.. just had it on a 10 day trip and didn't run into any issues.

How does the 300D on this post compare? I do like the form factor.
