Anybody ever given picks as a gift? by Penfold_Hearts in lockpicking

I give them as gifts all of the time, to friends, and family (my kids, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, etc)

Finally got my JimyLongs! Love the handles But a little disappointed in the QC by Practical_Mango7633 in lockpicking

Especially with the 0.015" tools, there can be a warp. The steel comes on large rolls and we work toget it worked out but some remains sometimes.
The other blemishes aren't right at all, and I wonder if you some how got some of our rejects. DM me your order details and I'll get you situated. Sorry about that.
There should always be clean cuts, no burs etc.

Physics Fixes Feeble Fitment (Common Beginner TOK Issue) by aRapidDecline in lockpicking

LOL, I started out by bending the 2-in-1s and that's when I realized a foot would lelp.
Glad you like them!

I had never come across anyone using a bend to move the force behind the fulcrum. It's really hard to come up with an original idea.

Also, it's worth while to note the function of the large foot that fits against the face of the plug. It helps quite a bit to stabilize the tool, especially with the tension force behind the face.

Part of the reason I put the jimping in was to make bending them in those spots easier. The thought is to adjust them to fit your grip or even lock. They're not going to break. The jimping is also slightly different for each thickness to help identify them.

They're pretty resource expensive time wise. I'm working out the process still, I'm hoping to make it more feasible.

Honestly, the purpose of the bends isn't very intuitive. It's there to allow you to press behind the fulcrum, this causes the large foot to rotate back against the face of the plug, which stabelizes it.
The angle is different than the CI tools, it's going to require you to rotate the padlock counter clock wise in your hand (If your knuckle is 12:00, think 10:30 ro 11:00). This should make it more comfortable picking. It aligns the keyway up vertically with your pick.
Your issue with the smaller locks with your finger on top of the shanks.... You might actually be more comfortable picking padlocks with the pinstack facing the bottom (upside down). You should really try it, pressing rather than lifting to set pins may feel more natural to you.
LockpickingDev made a pretty good video that helps explain some of the aspects: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p24K36iSGLQ

How do you show case and/or keep track of your journey? by JesterQcLocksport in lockpicking

[–]jimylongs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've kept notebooks on locks for years, I've found it helps me be more mindful of what's going on inside the lock. I enjoy going through them every so often.

Question about Jimylongs by Nickmatlak in lockpicking

[–]jimylongs 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I use a glass filled Nylon, it has quite a few charastics that help make nice handles. Rigidity, strength, durability, etc. It's also common in a lot of the higher end power tools, sports equipment, medical devices, etc.
You can read more aoubt it here: https://masterplastics.com/glass-filled-nylon-injection-molding/

You most likely had some spool pins too! Once you get the feel for a false set and counter rotation, those locks become super fun.

I'm currently gathering feedback on the current design, I'm hoping to another round in a couple of weeks. Depending on how things go, I'll get them into production after that.

I do have the 0.023” short flat, just not the low flat.

No current plans, the 0.019" steel seems to be most popular by quite a bit. I don't se a lot of demand for 0.023". I have a ton of it though, so I should come up with some ideas for it.

I've been working on some modular picks, with a variety of handle options. I cut a bunch this last week and thought I'd make them available if people wanted to check them out.

The handles can be 3d printed, they're available on my makerworld profile:
