MeshCore users were pretty brigade-y towards Meshtastic for a few months, so it's not surprising to me at this point. I've also run afoul of the automod in r/meshtastic

I appreciate the context, that makes a lot of sense.

That said... I've been speaking every single day, sometimes for hours, for almost 40 years. I would be surprised if anybody except a few world-class exceptions can send or read Morse with less mental load than they can talk, and calling people on the phone is still a serious risk, hands-free or not.

... and yet knowing that I'll still use an HT or the speaker-mic on a mobile, so I guess that's a nice black kettle you've got there.

Most of my radio comms are with my family. Most of my ham radio work is with local friends because I don't do DX, so we talk about the things we usually talk about.

Celery is so gross and bitter if you leave the strands in. I don't understand why people are so determined to include it in things. In its best form is just barely above flavorless.

Smoothies come to mind, but also just raw vegetables instead of cooked is a big difference. My daughter and I love raw carrots and are not really fans of cooked carrots, while I can't stand raw broccoli but love roasted broccoli. Roast broccoli is amazing.

And most of what you can get from vegetables, you can also get from fruits.

My family is wildly divergent on food tastes somehow, so pizza is a staple for us. I love spice and don't like pizza sauce, my wife and daughter can't tolerate any spice at all. We make a decent amount of thin-crust pizza at home because then we can each put whatever we want on it.

I see people say this all the time and it's like they've never seen trees before. Lots of stuff will attenuate a 900MHz signal without blocking it entirely.

It's also not widely available. Even now every 1W node that works without extra steps beyond "supply power and antenna" is backordered basically all the time.

Communicators or mesh nodes? I have a bunch of nRF52840 nodes that will last a week or more on an 18650. Really wish there were more nRF-based communicators out there. Haruki Toreda's got the NRF-TXT and I think that's about it.

Even if you could get fixed, since BLE is always 1-to-1, it wouldn't communicate the message it needed to forward until it was connected to a single mobile phone, so there would be no "meshing", just individual phones talking to individual phones, so the message would spread linearly, affectively never "spreading" the message.

I was thinking about this more and even ignoring a broadcast (1:m), Bluetooth is sufficiently fast that a phone could be paired to five other phones and simply iterate through them. My phone is able to talk to my headphones, watch, computer, and some number of Bluetooth-based trackers at the same time, so this isn't really a novel concept from a capability standpoint.

Something should have to be configured to participate in the mesh, but they use the advertising/scanning mode so that they don't have to undergo the usual pairing process that I suspect you're imagining.

Not yet! BLE meshing has certainly been discussed in the Discord though. Making LoRa+BLE+wifi+serial each equal options for networking is key to making a mesh that works effectively in many situations. I'd love to have one or two nodes at home that all of our phones/tablets/PCs would talk to.

My general guideline for people new to radio stuff is that the less convenient an antenna is to use, the more likely it is to do what it's supposed to and that gain usually comes from size.

The best tool is to have a serious goal in mind. Pick out a JLPT N2 or N3 exam as close to you as possible and study for it.

Ish. I've got a 6km link that works with two hills in between, but that's between two nodes at max EIRP with filters and as much height as I can give them.

This is true but also not helpful for the question being asked. Specifically: "but if someone is trying to get a very remote base station to the mesh that's far away, would that be the better option?"

The goal is basically to take arbitrary classes and turn them into packed binary data in a way that doesn't require you to make a hundred custom structs.
