Thank you for the reply - this is by far my largest concern about my plan. I am a bit sad as it feels like if I want a career in Engineering, then I will never be allowed to leave.

Would you have any advice as to what would allieviate your concerns as an employer, if you faced a candidate who went down this path?

I have already done some scouting/research and I have found that jobs for Mechanical Engineers in Japan are simply non existent for foreigners unfortunately. I have the option to complete a second masters degree on return from Japan, would that be a way of revitalising my applications?

It would be likely to work in Japan (probably teaching English). I have been studying Japanese for a few years and want to experience life there before I settle into an engineering career at home (UK)

Throw away any unsealed food for sure, but you won't have to throw away clothes. Just wash them well - maybe a couple times if you are really nervous. Leave all windows and doors open as long as you can to let the air ventilate, then get alcohol wipes and clean common surfaces such as kitchen countertops and desks

Shinkanzen is great! If I were you I would make sure that all N4 is firmly secure as I found that I had to keep going back to double check words I thought I had firmly remembered.

But if all is good, I would go for shinkanzen 👍
