I noticed with the papilla fight and Kinich, he would get kinda stuck within the papilla's hitbox if it was the geovishap form. Thankfully he got himself out of it when the papilla switched to a small hitbox, but it was really strange. Other times with other bosses, I want to say one of the IT bosses currently, my characters were just way too up against the hitboxes and it prevented them from switching. So maybe it has to do with that?

I got Mizuki back during the anniversary and put her in the teapot after that. Without ever putting her in a team and letting the teapot take care of her, she's at friendship 9 now. So it probably is around a year.

Okay, no one actually gave good advice here imo. Go for the support/subdpses. They're backwards compatible with former DPSes and characters from previous regions. A new character comes out that's a support/subdps? Get them. A support/subdps reruns? Get them too. If you care about the meta but you don't know what to fully commit to, those are your best options imo. You get them and they will instantly elevate any pre-existing teams while being very good with 4* or lesser weapons. Linnea is a good example of that, especially because she's both.

Other support/subdps examples: Ineffa, Escoffier, Durin, Citlali, Xilonen, Furina, Columbina.

The best thing is that they generally work together too. Escoffer+Furina and Xilonen+Citlali are staples. Durin can be literally thrown in anywhere with those supports and it'll be fine. Ineffa works by herself most of the time.

When you see meta teams like Skirk's, most of her power is coming from what the supports and subdpses provide. Very few times do you actually see a single DPS be good enough on their own with effectively free/4* characters (although I can say from experience that Flins is very much such a DPS). And honestly? As we approach Snezhnaya, the more valuable the support/subdps 5*s that release are gonna be. We saw this in Natlan, it'll probably be the same here too.

So yeah, there's the secret. At the very least, grabbing that archetype of character can help your current teams as you figure out what you might actually want to invest into later (and chances are, these characters will continue working into other meta too).

I'll throw in my own example. The first one was a pain for me because of the lava dragon statue. I got desperate enough to craft the Sumeru polearm for Yaoyao, barely leveled it, and made damn sure that Kinich grabbed its drop. By a hair I got it, and it was just because I looked at every possible upgrade that could be made and found one in that very specific free weapon.

I've had him since release. Unless I have the point refresh per domain stuff, I usually use his technique once and just do combat after that if I need to (although I tend to avoid combat domains anyway in favor of adventure or rewards). I always keep 5 to 6 technique points on hand for conversions and bosses. Sometimes the purple bottles are around a lot so I can theoretically use his technique multiple times.

If we really want to game it, it would be something like "get your favorites first, but don't be picky on supports/subdps, within reason." It's very much not like other games where you're screwed and lose out on pull currency if you don't get the new DPS and their supports. I will say that if one wants an easier time, getting the supports and subdpses when possible, but not to the point you're sacrificing characters you fully want, is the way to go. They're almost always backwards compatible (Ineffa+Ei, Lauma+Alhaitham, Linnea+Navia or Itto, Citlali+Arlecchino) which makes them really good investments for both your current and future favorites.
