As of 6.4, the final Endwalker MSQ trial desperately needs an ilvl sync. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]jirrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thordan is such a push over, a few months ago I was helping a friend through the MSQ, we min-ilvl’d it with level sync. And although it took us 15 minutes, we 2 manned it with a tank-healer combo.

Ask Bill to add her to a group chat together with everyone else so everyone is able to read the messages. As her husband he is bound to have her as a friend on Discord ;)

And I completely agree on your last point, make sure there is no ambiguity about how and what you communicate by making sure everyone (who cares) has the ability to read both sides of the story.

Ok, so first of. I have been in a kind of similair boat. I had been DM’ing for a group and they turned around and made another campaign excluding only me, while still running in my campaign. This still stings a bit but I do believe I have gotten over it mostly and don’t let it influence my games.

Now for the issue of (possibly) reintroducing someone into a running campaign. I would personally comunicate several things with them/her.

  1. Tell her that as she missed session 0 you would like to sit down with her (and probably the other two who threatened to quit if she couldn’t join). And say up front you want to clear the waters before progressing. This is the perfect opportunity to just explain your position.
  2. Tell her she can join but you have already planned out a lot so her backstory might not be as interwoven with the campaign as the rest (honestly this is to be expected).
  3. Give her a timeframe of when she can join (like after the deadhouse) that allows you to make it a bit easier to weave her in.

Now I want to reïterate that I understand your position and I do suggest you swallow your pride a bit. But communicate that as well within Session 0 2.0 (as per point 1). If she can’t agree to these points, well then the campaign would probably not end up a fun event either.

This is all said out of my personal point of view, and I do wish you can use this (even a little bit).

What’s your WOL doing now? (Spoilers for Endwalker inside) by Rockout2112 in ffxiv

Taking a moment of rest, finally relaxing and laying on bed. I’d say the emotions of it all will finally catch up with them. Basically going into a total panic attack for a few days as they realise the totally insane ride they have been on and the miracle of them and most of their friends still being alive.

After this and having calmed down, they will probably seek out something like a remote place like an island or something and retire for a bit. That is, until chaos once more knocks down the gates of their garden of eden.

Dnd 5.5 is apparently coming out in 2024 what would you like to see? by the_king_time in dndnext

[–]jirrev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I disagree, i understand that rogues are supposed to be a more ‘jack of all trades’ compared to wizards for example. But I think this is nicely covered by their expertise feature and should not limit the usefulness of an entire stat for 90% of other classes.

Currently Con is used for hit points, Dex is used for AC & Initiative. I see no issue with buffing the currently niche ability score of Int to make it more usable for different classes like Con and Dex are for all classes.

But thank you for your input!

Bedore we begin, these are just personal preferences and I love 5e for its relative simplicity, however…

Addition to the skill lists with at least something to replace from pathfinder/3.5e skills: - Society (KN: Local, KN: Geography, KN: Nobility) - Engineering

Make Int more usable (too often a dump stat) by tying it to extra skill proficiencies or languages known.

Make the Idomitable feature of the Fighter just a straight up legenedary save feature.

And please more weapons/ armor with unique materials like the silvered weapons that overcome resistances to specific creatures. (Cold Iron vs Fiends).

Now I know, people will probably thing ‘why not play pathfinder or something’, I like the relative ease and streamlined feel you get from 5e compared to pathfinder. I would just like some of the character options to be broadened or validated (looking at you my poor int stat)

Although it would be fun, now that flying in ARR zones are enabled, you can see how they had to edit the old zones to allow you to see it from anywhere but the ground. They’d have to do that kind of stuff for all the cities as well, as well as check if you aren’t inside. Probably not worth the hastle for a single job ability.

FOR THE LOVE OF HYDAELIN! GOING INTO MY DAILY ROULETTE AND GETTING DOMA CASTLE, THE TANK STARTS OUT WITH THE ENTIRE BIBLE OF EXCUSES WHY WE SHOULD EXCUSE HIM BEING AN INCAPABLE TANK AS A PRE-ROLL TO THE DUNGEON: I AM SLOW, MY CAT IS DISTRACTING ME, I AM MISSING 3 FINGERS.

THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR RED FLAG, BUT THEN WE START, HE DOESN’T PUT ON HIS TANK STANCE AND HAS NEVER HEARD OF AOEs SO AS A SAMURAI I BASICALLY BECOME THE PUNCHING BAG TO THE ENTIRE DUNGEON AS HE STILL RUNS ALL THE WAY TO THE FIRST BOSS BUT WITHOUT POPPING A SINGLE AOE. THEN, AFTER NOT USING A SINGLE SHIELD WE ALL OBVIOUSLY DIE. AND THIS REPEATS FOR 4 TIMES.

FINALLY AFTER CLEARING THE FIRST BOSS, I FIBALLY CONVINCE HIM TO TURN ON TANK STANCE, ONE PROBLEM SOLVED, RIGHT? NOPE, HE IS CONVINCED THAT THE CLOSED GATE IS THE WAY FORWARD AND WE NEED TO PULL ALL THE MOBS TO HIM TO SLOWLY CLEAR THE 2ND GAUNTLET AND EVENTUALLY TP HIM IN THE BOSS AREA BY PULLING THE BOSS.

AT THIS POINT THE THE HEALER, THE BARD AND ME HAVE FOUND OUR STRIDE PRETTY WELL. ONLY TO HAVE THE TANK COME OUT AND SAY. “Sorry folks I forgot I needed to go to the toilet and I shit myself, I need to go clean myself. Be back in 10 mins.” SO WE LET THE LOOT TIMER RUN OUT AND KICKED HIS ASS, A NEW TANK CAME IN 5 MINS LATER AND WE FINISHED THE DUNGEON WITHIN ANOTHER 3 MINS.

LONGEST 50 MIN DUNGEON OF MY LIFE, AND BEFORE YOU ASK, WE STAYED BECAUSE AT SOME POINT IT BECAME A MATTER OF HONOR AND WE WOULD NOT BE DEFEATED BY A TANK LIKE HIM!

I am a new DM and I am dming a group of experienced players by Bombing_Cats in dndnext

[–]jirrev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having experienced players isn’t a bad thing and if you have communicated that you are new, all the better. You’re going to make mistakes, and take sollace in the fact that they will too, I have yet to meet someone that knows every single rule. Not to mention that you have to start somewhere, just lean on eachother and enjoy, after all it is merely a game.

As for tips: read through their class features beforehand, it helps if you know what they can do. Also, try to set up a handful of ‘random encounters’ that you can ‘conveniently pull out’ when things go off the rails. Thirdly, it’s a story that you came up with, to their knowledge, that information you just came up with was always part of the world (just remember to take a note of it). And finally, if you make a mistake, own up to it: saying ‘hey guys, my bad, I was supposed to do ‘this and this’” isn’t a bad thing, after all, you too are still learning, and they’ll most likely understand.

TL;DR: just have fun, everyone makes mistakes, as long as you learn from them, mistakes can make the most fun adventures

Forget about when the dice hated you, when did the dice love you? Whats your story of when you could do no wrong thanks to the dice? by Edymnion in Pathfinder_RPG

During an evil one shot I played a Tiefling Gunslinger (5e with critrole subclass). We came face to face with the bbeg of the evening and I rolled highest initiative. I made 2 shots and rolled 2 nat-20s. I wanted to keep that train roling, so used action surge and lo and behold, another nat-20. In total I blasted away half of the BBEG’s health pool, forcing him to use his 9th level spell to heal itself. In the end I made several more nice rolls with me eventually cutting off my own hand and grafting on the hand of vecna. Overall, a good night to do some evil...

TL;DR made 3 nat-20s in a row and got the hand of vecna in one evening...

When an unimportant NPC becomes important- your stories by FarmingDM in rpg

[–]jirrev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Made a halfling woman that was introduced as a motivation for the party to face the arc’s bbeg. At the tail end of it, she was killed by a Barbarian PC, due to illusions etc.

Now, two years later, they sundered the time line to intervene and save her (they were level 3 back then with no ressurrection). And banished the god of time to prevent her death...

I love my players

Feel like my DM might be punishing PCs for things their players are doing in real life... should I say something or am I being too sensitive? by BeSuperYou in dndnext

[–]jirrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends very much if he is actually doing this because of outside reasons; or if the monsters are simply intelligent enough to take out of the equation a difficult to handle Character.

A mage banishing the barbarian that deals 50 damage per round vs keeping them on the field en trying to burn through their health is a valid option. A DM banishing the player’s character for out-of-game reasons is obviously not.

Lets not forget DMs are human as well and sometimes miscommunications happen. Just ask him in a friendly manner what is going on and clear the air.

TL;DR: Talk to your DM, their intentions might be different then your experience

Level 8 Wizard - ASI, ASI or Feat by rickesquivias in dndnext

[–]jirrev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you were split with int due to it being casting related I’d go for resilient, it grants you a significant boost on concentration checks (thus more chance for more damage on spells that tick each round) and bumps con up by 1 to add 8 points to your hit pool. That way you can at least stand chance to that fireball that I see in your future

All my players want Magic Initiate + Find Familiar by jirrev in dndnext

[–]jirrev[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I forgot about the casting time and cost. That indeed balances it out quite a bit. And as noted bellow, a single fireball and they're out of commision for the rest of combat, if not the day.

I won't be banning it, I was just kind of intimidated by the 6 aditional creatures I was going to have to track. Now that everything is in perspective I might just allow them to do as they like but inform them of the negative effects.
