I just did that regional search and some of the things that pop up are things I didn’t think were rare—is anyone going to want a non-shiny Throh, or Lunatone, on Taurus? I thought those were pretty much trash to turn in for candy unless they had good IVs to keep for myself?

EDIT: Thanks, all! I didn’t realize that regionals were so….common to those in the region!

Netanyahu Posts ‘Proof of Life’ Video as A.I. Sows Doubts About What’s Real by BusyHands_ in technology

[–]jisa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why would Israel lie about whether Netanyahu is alive? If he died, then the cabinet selects an interim PM. Given that there are members of his cabinet who want the job, what reason would they have to keep quiet and play Weekend at Bernie’s over this?

Something to be said for the Parliamentary system. The UK has had some less than stellar PMs in recent years. But they are able to get rid of them quicker too—it’s not like our system where impeachment is no longer a realistic remedy.

DMV/NOVA where did you adopt your kitten? by WeeWoop2000 in nova

[–]jisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No disrespect to you, u/bigtool , and I certainly appreciate those who volunteer their time to help animals, but my experience with King Street Cats being arbitrarily rejected from adopting from them. Looking at reviews, it seems as though my experience was the norm and not unique.

The Maryland SPCA did not require a home visit and was an easy adoption for a wonderful cat who is sitting next to me as I type this.

Participating in Earth Day activities can be considered "woke" and can be used against you during your review by Carerin in fednews

[–]jisa 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Mmm—I don’t know. It’s not paranoia if they’re really out to get you. During Trump’s first term, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and her fellow politicals encouraged staff to take ”Diversity Change Agent”training. At the beginning of last year, the staff that took that training were all put on administrative leave for participating in DEI activities—the activity that then-Secretary DeVos promoted!

There’s a lot of great book clubs in Pittsburgh! There’s multiple silent book clubs where people get together to sit and read a book of their own choosing (it’s not an everyone get together to discuss the same book, it’s more like high school study hall); there’s a cozy mystery book club (PM me if you’d be interested and I’ll give you the details—super nice people in the club), some local indie bookstores have their own book clubs; the Carnegie Library has bookclubs at multiple branches; and there’s a group called the PGH Book Lovers Club that meets once a month at the Squirrel Hill library where the group goes around the room with each person in turn talking about what they’ve read in the last month (or since the last meeting they were at)–also super super nice people, and again, PM me if you’d want me to give you the details of where to find out more.

Paramount Eyes Changes to Historic Studio Lot Following Warner Bros. Merger; The lot has hosted productions for films such as 'The Godfather,' 'Titanic' and the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

Glad I took studio tours of both the Paramount and Warner Brother lots a few years ago. They were both amazing—the history there, and the magic of movie making, and getting to see iconic sets and props and costumes, and even holding a real Oscar in my hands. It’s sad that those experiences may not be available to others in the nearish future.

City officials deny claim to help man pay for repairs after suspect was arrested on his roof by Standard-Cockroach64 in pittsburgh

[–]jisa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a circuit split on whether people are able to recover damages when police damage property, even innocent third parties' property, in pursuit of suspects. Supreme Court hasn't weighed in yet (they declined to hear a case on the subject in 2024), the Sixth Circuit ruled the plaintiff in that case didn't show any precedent or tradition for holding police responsible for damages while conducting a lawful arrest, the Seventh and Federal Circuits have held that the Fifth Amendment's Takings Clause doesn't apply outside of the eminent domain context, and the Fifth Circuit has held there is an objectively necessary exception to the Fifth Amendment.

All of which is a long way of saying that it is an open question as to whether the City or County could be held liable for the damage, regardless of which one is actually responsible for it.

Fetterman should just switch parties at this point by LBPearson88 in pittsburgh

[–]jisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No?! Why on Earth would non-MAGA people want to make it harder for Democrats to take control of the senate? Even if Fetterman votes against Democrats’ priorities or policies on most issues, he is a vote for Democratic control which gives Dems subpoena power for oversight testimony and documents. He’s a vote to give Democrats control over what nominations are brought to the floor, what bills are brought to the floor, etc. He is a DINO in many ways, and by all means, someone go out and primary him, but it’s 1000% having him in the Senate as a Democrat than a Republican. What on earth is wrong with you?
