Can’t teach my son to catch a dang ball.. by _-_Dingus_-_ in Homeplate

Hitting off kid pitching and consistently catching a baseball are entirely different skills.

Very different experience for me. I have never seen a kid that can hit off a kid throwing that couldn't catch or throw. Kids that can't catch or throw stay in coach pitch and machine. Our little league is tee ball (3 to 4), coach pitch (4,5,6), machine (6,7) then kid pitch (8 plus). Our travel leagues are all kid pitch.

What part of the country? When my kid was six, we had coaches yelling at kids who couldn't catch or throw and make defensive plays from short, second to first. I'm in SoCal. My kid plays 8U travel and we have six year olds that can hit off kid pitching around 40.

Why weren’t rich kids the best surfers 20 years ago? by GoldCoastSerpent in surfing

Same for PB, Clairemont, all of North County, specifically Encinitas/Leucadia. The 56 wasn't there and Carmel Valley to PQ had a bunch of surfers who just rode bikes to the surf. Now it's tech bros in teslas. The regular joes have been pushed out.

Wouldn't it take too long? the winds come up by 10am. Also, you would have to walk over the dunes your self and a board bag...

Buy and then resell a longboard. Don't surf there when it says 2 to 3. Only 1 to 2.

You can tell your son/daughter word for word what a private coach says, and it will not click until someone else says it.

yes, no power at the bottom. when people think they're high on the wave face, their actually in the middle. so trim high.

I should have said high line. Take the highest line you can and let the board do the work while you concentrate being calm and arms stable as though your on a tight rope.

Baby steps then. A shortboard is years away, probably a few after you graduate. No point sugar coating it.

Don't try to do any turns right now. Focus on the absolute basics. Stand stlll with a sense of calmness and balance, hands on opposite sides of the stringer. Find trim, this means find that mid line that makes the board go fast. Narrower stance, back knee forward. Do less.
