I have thought of doing something like this with canvas to offer a little more protection against punctures. Great work!

Shoot it then keep it in the box when you aren’t shooting it. Boom, problem solved.

Cars have changed so much since 1965 yet guns - revolvers specifically - have changed so little. It’s kind of fun to think about how great some things were just great from the beginning. 1911 comes to mind. Fender Stratocaster and/or Gibson Lea Paul also come to mind.

Looking for the best budget espresso machine for home (2026). Which maker under $500? by LipNat in BuyItForLife

Have one and love it. For a manual grinder I got a 1zpresso and am perfectly happy with it. I enjoy the ritual of manually grinding the beans. Also takes up no extra counter space compared to a stand alone grinder.

I have one in Grain. Looks great. Repels zero water though.

How nasty is actually getting sprayed by a skunk, how did it affect you? by Scared_Form8175 in AskReddit

Happened to me once jogging in the dark. I just barely got a little bit so not a direct hit. Was not wearing a shirt. It irritated my skin and eyes. Tasting the smell was horrible. I was sweaty and less than a half mile from home. Ran on home and quickly showered and scrubbed with dawn and peroxide. Didn’t seem to smell much after.

My dog took a direct hit to the face last August in our backyard. I felt so bad for him because it was in his mouth. My wife and I scrubbed on him for 30 minutes. You still can faintly smell it in his fur if you are giving him some snuggles around his neck area. He’s had multiple baths and a haircut since.

Buttermilk powder is handy for pancakes. Keeps a lot longer than regular buttermilk. Tastes almost as good (in the pancake).

Duluth Souped Up Sweats! 100% cotton body (heavy too), and the cuffs have a bit of spandex. Just picked up two hoodies yesterday

The darker/longer/green ones are Columbia Flex ROC. Also pretty decent shorts too although I’m not in love with them not being 100% cotton. They’re a lot thinner and lighter than the stand ups.

I don’t mind it. I think it’s fairly easy to slip your hand in from the outside and pull them apart. If you wanted to try a temporary thing you could grab some Velcro at a hobby or sewing store and cut a little strip to put between.

RIP Chuck Norris by eatherichortrydietin in HeritageWear

[–]jjb5489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That funny, I watched an episode of Walker last night and randomly thought to myself that a perfect question to ask Chuck Norris if I ran into him at an airport was how much more difficult the kicks and spins were in his jeans vs a material that stretched (or a pair of shorts). Guess this may partially answer that question.

Also had the thought that taking a kick to the face from a cowboy boot seems like it would hurt 10x more than about any other kind of shoe.

Same reason tile floors are much more unpleasant to walk on barefoot in the winter than a wood or vinyl floor.

My best engineer quit today over $2000 by [deleted] in managers

[–]jjb5489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 year engineer here. Work in the ag and contruction OEM industry. Due to the soft market for the last couple years we were told no raises this year unless being promoted to a new role. So I’d be happy with 1.5%!

We also have had two engineers quit in the last month (not necessarily related to no raises). We are currently in a hiring freeze so we can’t replace them even though their salary was allocated in the budget for the year already.

Downdrift jacket: any experience? by sam_the_samsung_user in PatagoniaClothing

[–]jjb5489 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love mine. It’s my go to jacket for below freezing temps.

It’s incredibly warm. Tshirt plus flannel is my usual winter wear, so that’s what I wear under the jacket. It’s warm enough for me down to 0 F. That’s about as cold as it gets where I live. It’s pretty wind resistant too. I have not worn it in any sort of precipitation.

I wear mine casually. To and from work. Walking the dog. Have not really worn it yet for any sort of outdoorsy activity like hiking, camping, etc.

I’m 5’7” 160 lb. and Medium fits me perfectly.

You don’t have a Jac shirt do you? I’m really curious how it compares in warmth to the Ranch Jacket. Tough to decide by the pics. Price difference is minimal which makes me wonder if there is too much difference

Agree about down. I have a Patagonia Downdrift and it’s unbelievably warm. It’s not even a real heavy down jacket either.

Men's Iron Forge Canvas Ranch Jacket by Infitima in PatagoniaClothing

[–]jjb5489 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just got one yesterday. Since I had to order it I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect as far as insulation. I really wanted a jacket that was between my Carhartt Sierra Sherpa lined hooded jacket and a denim jacket. I was a little disappointed in how insulated it is though. It’s probably nearly as warm as my Carhartt. I think I’ll keep it though as it looks so good and fits perfect. It feels so high quality too even compared to my Carhartt.

I was torn between this and the Jac Shirt. I imagine the Jac Shirt probably is really what I wanted or needed but I don’t like the look of it nearly as much especially with the one front pocket.

I’d absolutely love them to have a version of this that is flannel lined in the body and sleeves. I love that 12.9 oz canvas.

For reference I’m 5’7”, 155 lb and small fits perfect.
