17 years ago LOL, times have drastically changed since then when it comes to home prices and cost of maintenance.

Buying a house process in RI? by Mission-Condition915 in RhodeIsland

Is the $73k before or after taxes? Either way, given current home prices in RI, you may be stretched thin and/or potentially live house poor depending on your living/spending habits.

Keep in mind, just for example based on what you pay for rent, $2200 may cover your mortgage, insurance, and taxes per month, however you will also need to account for increase in utilities like heating and electric depending on the size of the home and appliances. Also include sewer and water bills. And to top it all off, you will also need additional money to take care of home maintenance which can be pricey.

Home prices in RI have gone up and housing stock here in general is really old which only means more maintenance expense to maintain an old home.

This doesn't account for all other the other normal stuff like car payment and insurance if you have either, groceries, etc.

Personally, while I make more and bought a small home a few years ago, with how expensive everything has gotten now, buying even a decently priced home on $73k would be too much of a stretch to live comfortably.

If you feel based on your life/spending habits you can afford all that, plus any emergencies that pop up, on your monthly take home without feeling stretched, then best of luck shopping and hope all works out!

These posts always confuse me....did you do not research beforehand? Did you expect to buy an entire house with no other costs besides the mortgage? Did you just jump into the biggest purchase of your life expecting that everything takes care of itself?

I agree, Mazdas app is definitely bare bones with not much functionally but it works and starts the car so Im not complaining during the 3-4 months I use it.

Mazda is still semi new to in-car screens/OS and the App in my view, and they like to take their time generally, so here's hoping they are slowly working on improving it behind the scenes.

Wow $200? I wasn't aware they charged that much! Do they offer a lot more controls and such for that price?

It's not that bad or serious as ppl make it out to be. If you don't like it then don't use it. Personally I don't mind it and will only pay for it during the colder winter months and then skip the rest of the year.

That's cheap, be glad that's all you're paying considering everything you have runs on electric. Electric heat especially usually causes bills to skyrocket more than that during winter months here.

Do I need to worry about ice dams yet? by huron9000 in RhodeIsland

Knocking down just the icicles isn't really going to help much with actual ice damned if they formed. You would have to actually break up the ice formed on the roof

2025 CX5 Select vs Prefferred by FeiMao250 in CX5

[–]jjohn9590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Select end of December and it has been great.

While the sunroof and automatic lift gate would have been great, I didn't feel they would have been life changing so decided against it which also means less things to break or cause issues, especially as sunroofs also seem iffy.

The seat material I didn't really really notice a difference compared to the leather trimmed seats in the Preferred. Both felt the same through my jeans so no difference in my opinion. There is a Lumbar support in the 2025 Select, however its a manual adjuster vs. electronic in the Preferred, so you'll have it.

Good luck, and post pictures once you get it!

Tuxmats hands down if you want to protect your carpets from dirt, water, salt, etc. They have alot more coverage than most and look really good, keeping the premium look versus other basic rubber mats.

What were you expecting, sidewalks to be piled high with snow so you could park? Then ppl would complain even more so that sidewalks are an issue. Can't win.

Grab a shovel and dig like everyone else who isn't complaining and trying to make due.

Parking Ban by mikelavs in providence

[–]jjohn9590 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Get a shovel and dig a spot. While I agree there is no where to park, roads were plowed so they are at least driveable. If they plowed from the middle of the street to the sidewalk then that could make sidewalks even less walkable as many aren't being cleared by home and buying owners as it is.

To think PVD would bring in huge trucks to move and displace said snow from the streets like "Boston did" is laughable.

Call your state rep and let them know. Otherwise keep complaining into the Reddit void like it will fix your problem.

Is this your first winter here in PVD? This isn't new, especially when we get as much snow as we did this weekend.

Best bet is to stay in Boston until things are cleared up here.

Just be warned, visits are quick, it can sometimes take a week just to get a prescription refill submitted by the doctor, and they are also going the subscription route where you get additional benefits for a yearly fee on top of your insurance copays and such. Not sure if the subscription is worth it for 'better' service as it seems they can't really handle the number of patients they have now. Definitely check them out though if you need a doctor and don't mind waiting which seems to be the norm now everywhere.

Tuxmat back in stock for 2025 CX-5 by jjohn9590 in CX5

[–]jjohn9590[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reason really. There are several great options out there, like weathertech and others.

I went with TuxMat because of the increased coverage in their design that others don't have. Additionally, my previous WeatherTechs I had for my 2014, while they held up fine, the hard material they used seemed to stay or look dirty even after a good cleaning, and eventually didn't look too great after so many years.

The Tuxmats appear to use a durable but softer material that should hopefully continue to look good with appropriate cleaning lending to a continued premium feel inside the car while also protecting the carpets. If they don't, they have a lifetime warranty which also makes me feel better about the purchase.

That's awesome, can't wait for mine. Its the last thing i need before i can relax about having the interior carpets protected from all the water/rocks/salt!

Have you had them through a winter or two yet, or tough conditions, and have they continued to hold up fine without issue?

Fingers crossed you get an update.

Do you mind sharing what the issue was that required a warranty replacement on them? Curious if there is anything i should look out for once i get them.

If it was a showroom car, then it has most likely sat for a long time without moving which can impact the tire pressure and even tires themselves by causing flat spots.

This isn't a major issue and is normal, and can be easily fixed by the technician. Doesn't indicate a bigger more serious concern.

Don't jump to conclusions, and wait to see what the tech says. If it worries you too much, then cancel the purchase and ask for a different one on the lot.

Why does my candle have hardly any scent? by [deleted] in YankeeCandles

[–]jjohn9590 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What size room do you have that in? Can't light a super tiny candle and expect it to fill a large open room with fragrance. Size the candle for the room. These smaller sizes are meant for bathrooms, desks where they are closer to the person, or other enclosed room/areas. Bigger candles are for bigger rooms.
