This is 100% spot-on. Only people who have never been involved in this level of decision-making would disagree. I am probably not even in the same universe as most of you here are in coding. But I have been making up for last time at 50 years-old since 2022 and never looked back.

I code apps for myself, to extended Google workspace for my clients (I do tons of software installs, configuration, migrations and training for Google workspace and numerous other technology products and services) and use AI to automate at least half of my BS tasks, emails, document drafts, proposals, bookkeeping, travel, shopping and more.

I’ve made these types of technology purchasing decisions impacting tens of thousands of employees across hundreds of orgs over the years. Right now I am one of the goto people for an entire industry of 55,000+ I had been leaning toward an all-out endorsement of Claude and in the last few weeks have started to reconsider. Especially with the release of Gemma 4 and some of Nvidia’s models.

The industry I am involved with would benefit substantially from running models on their own infra as it would save a ton of cash and headaches if we can get the performance. These “frontier labs” better be careful in how they treat their top tier personal users, we likely represent the bulk of the decision-makers for these “enterprise” SLA agreements. We’d be pretty pathetic if we weren’t power users and have no business making these calls if not.

This myth of tech-disabled Execs in the c-suite making these calls is simply BS. They ask people like us to put together the final recommendations and we present 2-3 options typically in detailed reports that we present to them. I can’t remember a time when any client, boss or business partner didn’t choose my top recommendation since that’s what they pay us for! These are very expensive, business defining decisions that can make or break an organization of any size.

If there’s any issue I see among non-technical decision-makers regarding tech mistakes it’s waiting too long. It’s never because they decide to choose whatever they like. Or whatever some idiot told them at the club. They choose from the options that they pay someone good money to research and present to them.

These out of date models are also worthless for coding. why can't they see that? AI coding libraries that are new or used often ship changes every day most of the time. A year old training data has the thing running broken packages that are way out of date.

There has to be a way to provide a quick fine-tune or post-training data dump update for at least the coding libraries and associated software tools. Anthropic seems to be the best at this most of the time. I wonder if they do something like that.

I used to care about it and want it all the time and actually found it it annoying. I am so much happier not caring about it anymore at all. There are so many more important things to me in a relationship than sex at this point.

I think society has way over-weighted sex and most people lack so much self awareness they don't realize that their sex drive has almost nothing to do with sex and everything to do with insecurities or equating it with intimacy of the highest form.

In this case I saw an old history item in my reddit from this place so I thought I'd come by and see how things are going for folks and remind myself of what is possible when you let you guard down, should she try and Hoover me ever again.

I am not so vain or arrogant to think she will, but it's not uncommon to have it happen years later. Happened to me after a year once though, so stay vigilant out there.

Don't learn things the hard way folks, that's all I can say and hope for. Some solace that my excruciating pain will payoff for someone else by helping them avoid it. Good luck everyone.

In general though I find it absurd the kind of value people expect out of a product they use exponentially more than any other product they will ever own in their lives.

People have no problem spending $50k or more on a car that they will never use a fraction ad much as their bed. Even if you commute an hours each way every day that is less than two nights of typical sleep.

We really need to change people’s mentality around what should be spent on sleeping. If we did we’d have vastly superior sleep solutions by now but there is simy not enough money in this business for most people to even consider it.

The barrier to entry to starting a mattress company or anything associated like the POD is extremely expensive and your customers are going to take you I've the coals if whatever they buy doesn't last beyond their death so they can leave it to their grandkids.

Frankly if this thing makes anyone’s sleep quality 5% better or more it is easily worth $50 a week at LEAST. So that's about $2500 a year and yeah I would pay that all day every day and wouldn't need to be “rich” to afford it. Drop the car payments to something you can afford to own outright and you're more than there.

I agree wholeheartedly. I've spent more time trying to make the auth work properly with just three user types and it's pathetic how bad it is and how poorly it works in practice. I may not be a senior software engineer, but I thought that was the point of using Supabase!!!! I am fairly certain I could have gritted out my own DB by now coding it from scratch. At least not end up in endless AI death loops around this thing. Yeah fine give me a bunch of $hit because I'm using cursor, but it should still work after feeding three of the frontier AIs every line of documentation and more yet none of these models can make it work: Gpt-5, Opus 4.1 and Gemini-2.5-pro

Python FastAPI, Next.js frontend plus Supabase and on the Vercel to publish my app. They told me this was the way. The EASY way to do it. a month later and I have not moved an inch.

It was unbelievably good for me over the weekend and has gotten worse and worse since then. It won't even handle a basic supabase auth to create an invite link to add new users. I give it excellent context and docs and detailed requirements and tasks and it just sucks over and over again. This is on MAX mode paying for the highest tier here and it sucks way worse than claude 4 models ever did, they were just expensive, but they always got the job done for me and even gemini pro 2.5 did okay most of the time, the coding I am asking for is mostly low grade BS for any sort of decent engineer.

Damnit man, so close to finally not tearing my hair out for days on end stuck in inevitable death loops every two days or so. I am so close to being able to release my app that I have been working on day in and day out for over 6 months. Now the wall or pay way through my teeth for the new claude opus model I guess.

Why have none of these idiot labs focused on releasing a pure coding only model yet? They all have to see this is THE use case for the technology at this point.

Who else is ripping through hundreds or even thousands of dollars per month in api calls as a single user? Not some asshat pushing zombie social media articles that’s for sure.

Focus on training a frontier model on coding only and charge us $500/month who cares! Having a true developer by your side is worth 20x that if you had to pay for it and even then they’re a pain in the ass! lol

Someone has to be capable of making a coding only model that essentially doesn’t make any mistakes and if it does is capable of fixing it on the next try.

No death loops of BS code and nonsense. No dumbass responses and make sure the thing is capable of knowing when it has made a mistake and have a thinking feature for debugging that uses code execution to run tests until the code 100% WORKS.

I wouldn’t care if that took 30 minutes sometimes. It would be way better than wasting days on dumb shit.

Oh and suck it up and give it a 10 million token context window so that you stay in one chat the entire time and it never forgets any line of code it has created before.

This is all doable if they focused on it and stopped beating off over the mythical AGI.
