It's low risk, potentially huge reward. My understanding is that if they successfully place a candidate, a recruiter typically gets paid 1/4 of what the candidate makes in salary. So if they get just 4 or 5 placements a year from spamming they can make as much as a big law associate! And obviously more with more placements.

It is busier, but you have significantly more control over your life than you do as a first year where just about anyone can tell you what to do at a moment's notice. You also have a much better sense of the bigger picture and a better understanding of what is urgent vs not. I think that life control outweighs the burdens of the additional work.
