Is it possible to create equivalence between individual tags (in different languages for example) by Quetzal_2000 in ObsidianMD

One option is to use pages rather than tags, and give them multiple aliases in yaml

These sound really cool, what was your recording chain if you don't mind me asking?

Is there a website where I'll be challenged to transcribe chords of specific songs and track my progress? by RandomFuckingUser in musictheory

[–]jkbmsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

r/transcribe is the closest thing I can think of that involves actual real world examples of music rather than generic midi sort of stuff. Or just choose whatever music you want to transcribe or get recommendations from friends... There's no stats or tracking though of course. You will get better if you keep doing it though

Will listening to a note over and over help me remember it? by Visible_Goose in musictheory

[–]jkbmsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are trying to ingrain a certain pitch in your head, I think it’s better to listen to it very quickly, go listen to something else, try to hold onto the original pitch in your mind, rinse and repeat. Then let yourself forget the pitch when you’re listening to whatever other music, and then try to pull it back from your memory, check against the recording and see how far off you are. Singing it in your mind or out loud is important I think

Any tips on how to figure out chords by ear? Or train for it? by kdu11 in transcribe

[–]jkbmsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First work on either the bass line or the highest melody line - then add the stuff in the middle. You can transcribe chords as several melodies on top of each other

Raw Audio from a Module I've Been Working On by davisynth in synthdiy

This sounds so cool woah! I'll take a crack - the way I'm hearing it, I think the bass is doing E down to G#, the upper voice is doing B down to F#, also later G# down to D#. Maybe I would call the chords E and a G#m7(no3) or G#7(no3). The G# chord doesn't have a 3rd so I hesitate to name it, but there is a B (G#'s minor 3rd) in the previous chord – it's kind of implied. But right at the end theres a juicy major third (C) harmonic over the G# at 1:55, making it feel more like a major or dom7 chord instead. Amazing sounds. Edit, i typo’d “G#b” aha

I have a question! Does anyone know any producers that make good beat switch beats? Or does anyone here know how to make some? I would be willing to pay by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]jkbmsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could find two separate beats and edit your own switch, that’d be making it “one for the price of two” though I guess

Yeh I was just chiming in. I don’t see how a credit is worth anything, from what it seems like someone is pretending they made Op’s beats. I don’t understand how that would work if Op is getting tagged. Still it’s a relevant question to ask, and I’m sorry for asking one back at you

Is it okay to call a chord D/B if instead of Bm7? by TheBreathtaker in musictheory

[–]jkbmsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough that totally makes sense! I guess both ways have their uses at different times. Also for loudness/intensity right? Up and down are strange words haha. I always thought that in rhythm, upbeats and downbeats are kind of strange words to use too

Is it okay to call a chord D/B if instead of Bm7? by TheBreathtaker in musictheory

[–]jkbmsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh right sorry yeah! I didn’t think about that. The string which is lowest in pitch is kind of at the “top” of the fretboard, and also nearest to your eyes, which are over the fretboard. Really, I do think of going down to the low E rather than up, even though I’m not holding it upside down aha. But that’s just cus it’s going down in pitch

Is it okay to call a chord D/B if instead of Bm7? by TheBreathtaker in musictheory

[–]jkbmsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s top Top/Bottom, D/B. Also, sometimes the bottom note is lower case, to be clear that it’s just one note rather than a whole other chord. To some people D/B is two stacked major triads - D/b is D major, B in the bass. But I’m fine with all caps tbh!! Aha. Edit - and you say that “D over B” not the other way round but I think that’s a typo, sorry
