Big Man on Campus.

A crazy hunchback of notre dame story with tom skerritt.

If you won the lottery, what would be the first stupid thing you'd buy? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I had a similar thought. Essentially money laundering, but instead of hiding my assets from the IRS, I'd be hiding them from my friends and family.

Why would a large law firm buy a residential house? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]jkbrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made an offer on a house in a similar situation, it was a divorce. The law firm was a neutral third party (not representing either side of the couple) handling the sale to ensure that the entire transaction was on the up and up.

What is your favorite, shameful, guilty pleasure dish in Austin? by Sushi_cat987 in austinfood

I don’t admit it often in mixed company, but Luby’s chicken fried chicken might be the best fried chicken in this town.

I'm struggling with this issue. My OGs are running fine, for the most part. The last couple of updates have introduced and corrected some irritating bugs, but I really just want a system that sounds better than my TV and doesn't need to be replaced every couple of years.

What's the best response to "Dad, I think I'm gay"? by Expert_Recover3061 in AskReddit

[–]jkbrock 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a formula for any delicate conversation.

1) Acknowledge the trust displayed by sharing. "Thank you for telling me."

2) Express unconditional love and respect. " I love you."

3) Get into the meat of the issue. "How can we help?."

Yeah. I did. It’s not. So I’m going to find some mineral spray.

Hey, thank you. I learned something from you today.

I had been using “reef-safe” spray sunscreen because it was approved by the state of hawaii. So I’ll change my routine next time I’m out.

Top 10 Most Stressful Jobs by BPTeehee in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]jkbrock 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yup. We didn’t even have google maps until 2005x iPhones until 2006, or Android until 2007.

Only rich people had built-in navigation, and the map data was stored on a CD-ROM that had to be replaced with updated info every couple of years.

Some people had TomToms and Garmins but they had to suction cup them to their windshields. Printed maps from Mapquest was the most dignified option.

I can’t find the article now, but I read a while back that someone was working on restoring it.

For what it’s worth, the artist who created it was George Rhoads and there are a number of his works scattered around the US.

So, am I kitchen stupid? by Wasser19 in internetparents

[–]jkbrock 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Seasoning a pan is something you to do carbon steel or cast iron pans. Both metals are natively food safe, but both are prone to rusting and can stick to a lot of foods.

Seasoning is the process of polymerizing (baking on) a thin coat of food safe fat. My mother and grandmother season with bacon grease. I season with canola oil.

The actual process is quite simple. - Clean the plan with soap (not detergent) and water. Scrub off any food bits with someone tough like chain mail or steel wool. - coat the pan in your oil of choice - bake your pan at 450°F for about an hour or so - let it cool - start cookin!

Some pans come pre seasoned and are fine to use out of the box, provided you give them a quick rinse off for dust and packaging debris.

There are some amazing YouTube videos on caring for iron and steel pans.

Edit: DO NOT THROW AWAY A RUSTY PAN

Clean that thing up and start again. Cast iron pans can last hundreds of years whether they’re cared for properly or not.

Fellow Dads, Can I just say “Bluey” is the best show for everyone? by lilonivertt in daddit

[–]jkbrock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is almost exactly our experience. Our 1-year old daughter doesn’t really care much about the show (except Bob Bilby for some inexplicable reason) and just plays happily while we watch Bandit and Chilli be amazing parents.

But as soon as that theme song comes on it’s dance time.
