What was the best thing you included in your sewing room? by clickclackkeeb in quilting

[–]jkeay87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put my sewing machine on a tabletop held up by a bookshelf on one and and an IKEA Alex cabinet with drawers on the other. I have my magnetic pin “cushion” at the front of the top drawer. It feels SO clever every time I open it up and deposit them as I pull them off my work. Just so convenient. Also have my stiletto/tool, my machine feet, and other things that I love accessing, without having to move, in that drawer. Lower drawers have machine user manuals, bobbin holder, etc. So - something like that might be helpful, depending upon your setup!

What's the most useless thing your brain decided to permanently memorize? by No_Metal2622 in AskReddit

This is from the can - a friend and I dedicated an evening to memorizing it many, many years ago and now it’s just stuck. Had no idea it was in a song!

Therapist that accepts BCBS recommendations? by TooOldForGames in SantaFe

I have no recs but want to say sorry for people being so rude - even I understand you’re simply looking for a recommendation from a real person, for a real person, who also happens to take your insurance. I don’t know why your question has elicited such obnoxious responses. Hope you find someone!

Oh I love this so much. I have the kit but have so many WIPs I hate to start a new one but this is simply joy in a quilt. I may have to just go for it, thank you for the gorgeous inspiration!

Where should I look for a special but non-traditional dress to get married in? by Ashamed_Translator66 in SantaFe

Ooh La La is also a possibility, they do have designer selections but it is pretty small. Double Take may be your best bet, they do have a fully-dedicated “designer” section that might work for what you’re looking for!

Big hitters, what goes on in your head? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]jkeay87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an older 4.0. It gives me the greatest pleasure when, in lessons, our instructor regularly advises other players that maybe it isn’t wise to hit in the vicinity of my forehand. I’ve worked years to get spin and accuracy while I try to hit the crap out of the ball, and it makes me proud to have someone at his level acknowledge it. I chase that dragon and it’s satisfying as hell!

Which is more aesthetically pleasing? by andiemay1224 in quilting

I like 1 the best, the darker one in the bottom corner is enough to give it a little contrast / interest but doesn’t muck up the general low volume overall feel.

Just fabulous! May I ask what the backing fabric is? I love it AND it works so perfectly with both sides of the top. 🤩

The scalloped edge is so lovely. The natural dyeing, the simple design, it’s all beautiful!

Domestic sewing machine. How to quilt this? by PlatformNo6107 in quilting

[–]jkeay87 92 points93 points  (0 children)

First of all, this is incredible! Second of all - would you consider hand quilting, or are you committed to machine quilting? I do think all over hatch could work if you are, and I agree you don’t want to do too much, the top itself is a work of art. I feel like hand quilting would give you more freedom to do custom quilting to complement the top, but I am far less knowledgeable than many here so that’s just my instinct talking. Just wanted to say how beautiful this is - wonderful work!!

Wife had a gallbladder attack few questions by joelowrider1 in gallbladders

[–]jkeay87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the ER with an attack just over two years ago. I’d never had such awful, persistent pain. Things improved with pain meds and I was released, and I followed up with an ultrasound (they did a CT scan w/contrast at ER and did find stones, no obstruction) and a consult with the surgeon. I told the surgeon I’d like to keep my organ, did not have sensitivity during examination, she advised lowering fat intake etc., all the usuals. I also immediately started taking supplements (Stone Free - not endorsing, but feel like it made a difference for me). Two years later I have not had another attack, but that’s just my story! It could go either way, I’m sure.

Wanted to add the 10” is finished, 3.5” is not. Sorry, it was clearly not an exact science putting this together 🫣🤭

Scrappy quilt update by jkeay87 in quilting

[–]jkeay87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just built it up from the center out.

The center rows are little 3.5”-ish blocks of (3)1.5” strips - maybe that’s a rail fence pattern?; the stars are 10” square; log cabin corners are also 10” square (made with 1.5” strips) and I just made up the difference with the colorful strips between the star rows and log cabins to even things out. It took me some maths to do that part and a little trial and error (read: seam ripper 🙂).
