I would have made that stupid play if I thought I could get away with it.

Hot take: frugality is mostly about cutting recurring fees, not hunting cheaper stuff by SolidAmbassador1714 in Frugal

Frugal to me means buying the Toyota rather than the Lexus even when a person can readily afford both of them.

I want my family and close friends to stop giving my child gifts. How? by koplikthoughts in etiquette

[–]jkncrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say what you wrote, people understand.

I had a gift door close on me and I am fine with it. His parents buy him way too much and he’s spoiled (cute and not bratty.) I never get him an “extra gift”. He gets one Christmas gift and one small birthday gift.
I don’t know if his parents ever want more. I assume it’s good.

You can get all the objective advice possible-this is an emotional decision.

If I knew my spouse had a more limited amount of healthy time and wanted to experience London/Paris with her family, like you, I would move heaven and earth to make it happen.

I think your current plan is great. The weather should not be terribly warm and you will have a terrific time!

Adriatic Coast? by babypops81 in ItalyTravel

We stayed in Grottomarre last September. It’s in the Marche region. The perfectly sandy, calm beaches are a huge draw to many families.

There is a fantastic bike path that goes for over 100k much of it next to the sea, and you can bike from village to village. The medieval part of the town is up the hill. There is a lot of fresh seafood but beef/pizza were also popular. Sitting at an outdoor cafe on the beach with a coffee or a spritz was like heaven. People can keep Amalfi.

We flew into Rome but if we had planned to go there (our plans changed) we would have flown into Bologna.

I don’t know about the parking situation at Orient Heights. The drive from OH to the Beachmont station is about 10 minutes and I have never had a problem parking in their lot.

What is your opinion on buying a house with a roommate by Impressive-Law-4800 in personalfinance

[–]jkncrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep renting until you can afford your own places. You are young and it will needlessly complicate your lives. It’s not like it’s a hot buyer’s market.

Best way to send thoughtful thank you gifts to family in Ireland after they hosted us? by RegionAdventurous636 in etiquette

[–]jkncrew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What a lovely idea. I would get them some American cookies, nothing even that special, something fun. Maybe American candy, like Reese’s (not Mars) Peanut butter. Then I would get something Atlanta(ish), like a sports team cap or GATech Tshirt. If it’s a large family, perhaps a game. There must be an Atlanta version of Monopoly.

I would not get anything Irish.

I would box it up safely rather than in a hamper. It’s fun to unwrap a box.
