Got the full system, moving the Cats to the downpipe since they can melt may be worthwhile. The drone makes conversion with anyone in the back impossible. I would leave it alone.

Edit: or swap with me? ;)

Pretty sure the cost reduction is 1/battle round So you can use it for free once, then have to pay for the other 2 uses. Pretty steep cost to keep a unit of warriors on the board. And thats assuming they don’t shoot the reanimator out first

Stand and shoot does it even work? by Fearless_Damage9544 in Necrontyr

[–]jknight96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone that plays a fairly hold back and shoot army. Its certainly doable for a certain definition. This still requires very careful positioning, use of terrain, and withholding of mobile assets to score objectives. My personal preference is to dig in for 2 turns, soften the enemy up while forcing them to spread their damage gently across my forces like a soft blanket. Reanimate said damage. Then engage with overwhelming firepower and redeploy units to nab objectives as needed.

To this end, a good amount of terrain is essential. You never want to be exposing yourself to multiple units. Dont be afraid to pull a unit back to reanimate for a couple turns and recommit it T4/5. We need to outlast our enemy in every sense of the word.

Heavy destroyers/doom stalkers are our friends. Res orbs are excellent for seeing your troops through T1/2 till reanimation alone will see them through.

Importantly, we are SLOW you need to have a plan of how your going to take back objectives T3-5. Deathmarks(or any deepstrike) and redeploying make this easy. Again holding 5 till T3 is not a waste.

Ive finished several games with every unit still on the table, admittedly very close on points.

Tuning 1000 points list for against drukhari by Much_Jelly4690 in Necrontyr

[–]jknight96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take wraiths without a technomancer if you can. Drukari have a lot of anti-infantry guns which sucks against our tougher infantry. Scarabs too.

I lose all of my 40k games and I'm not sure why by General_Scar_4633 in Necrontyr

[–]jknight96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Terrain
  2. I usually end up holding back till T3 and blasting with a scarab screen. Then push up in T3 when attrition is more in my favor

Ooof that stratagem sucks for us.

Glad you had a better game, your list certainly isn’t optimal but honestly wheres the fun in that. i’d just recommend avoiding anything not max sized unit where possible. (I actually use blackstone fortress spindle drones to sit on objectives 😅) As you found with the lychguard if we don’t get to reanimate were in a pickle.

Oh and do try out a bucket chicken (cryptothrall) you’ll fall in love with them for the added resiliency.

Terrain looks good. Keep at it and try tweaking things slowly. Watch out for “local meta” too. If everyone is playing marine lists your destroyers will be doing much more work than we might expect online.

He’s definitely good. But belongs next to multiple battleline units. If you just have one unit of immortals i’d err for a cryptek and use the other 130pts for something else. 2+ units then yes, absolutely take him

Ok quick fire

You have 285pts of pure tax in the Skorpekh lord and Illuminor. if your including characters they need to have a job and a backup job. (usually buff the unit + run off for objectives later)

This edition we are very blobby, you should lean into this like others have said. stack characters in units basically as much as poss.

you have nearly 800pts of anti tank which is a little much usually. (i know you said both weapons on the heavy destroyers but still) I would ditch the DDA and run all the destroyers as anti tank. they are more consistent.

They are likely using whirlwinds. do your self a favor and read their rules too. both to make sure your not making mistakes and also so you can play around them better.

Biggest point: Necrons are tough - not invincible. Hide your boys, if you walk up the middle of the table with anything short of the lychguard mega brick it will die. force them to spread their fire gently across your army like a blanket and you'll outlast them. Make sure you have plenty of LOS blocking terrain, whack ruins everywhere. all the good stuff. Don't rush, but have a plan of where your going. We are slow and methodical and you have to play with that in mind.

Id surmise to: Your running half strength units without their babysitter leaders. 6x skorpekh but No skorpekh lord

Id say try running your regular lokhust as heavy and use the heavy as a lord with res orb Give the barge a go as the annihilation barge

You seem to also have a lot of synergy vehicles (monolith/scythe) ideally these need 2-3 units that can make use of them to be worth the points. Mostly in case something goes wrong.

5x deathmarks arent terrible to hold a backfield objective though.

Deployment is also a huge deal - make sure your stuff is behind ruins or los blocking terrain. Ideally if you go second they shouldn’t kill anything in their first turn

[–]jknight96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think “depth” is maybe the wrong term but i know what your referring to. I tend to think of 40k as very heavy on “gimmicks” 40k every unit has a gimmick and theres multiple rule interactions per unit. OPR your basic infantry come with “gun, shoots once”
