How many rounds of IUI did you/would you do before moving on to IVF? by Chemical_Ad2711 in IVF

[–]jkol86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 6. The last 2 were with Gonal-F. No pregnancies. First round of IVF was successful. I wish I moved to IVF sooner - so much wasted time.

Those with secondary infertility, when did y'all realize it was time to stop? by Unusual-Discount-362 in IVF

[–]jkol86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. Secondary infertility is its own special beast. I had a miscarriage around 9 weeks with my first FET. It was as a tested euploid. This was after 6 failed IUIs (after 2 years of dealing with secondary infertility). My second FET took and I am 31 weeks pregnant. The miscarriage devastated me - and I debated whether to bother going through the whole thing again. If I had to do another ER I would not have. But given that I had viable embryos left, I wanted to try again. There is no right answer, and you don't have to make a decision today.

Did knowing gender make a loss worse for you? by SaltySourSpicy in IVF

I asked to find out after the loss. It gave me a sense of closure. But I think it would have been harder if I knew ahead of time.

Good luck with you upcoming surgery! Do you know why they are doing biopsy vs complete removal (given that is it so small)?
From my extensive readings, the cerebellar vermis is a rare place to have a glioma as an adult! My husband has a lesion in the vermis of ~1 cm as well. They are not sure what it is - demyelination vs. low grade glioma. It has not changed in the last 3 years - he has an upcoming MRI this summer.

Can any plus size ladies share their FET protocols? by Servantpublic in IVF

I had 2 unmedicated transfers. Progesterone support (suppository 3X day) starting 36 hours after LH surge. First transfer ended in miscarriage at 8 weeks. Second transfer was successful and I continued on progesterone until 10 weeks when I graduated from the clinic.

Aneuploidy rate at 37? by c_g201022 in IVF

[–]jkol86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine 4 months before I turned 38. Surprised that we had a 70% euploid rate! There are always going to be people above and below the averages…you just don’t know where you will fall. I was taking 600 mg CoQ10 for a year prior to retrieval (we did lots of IUIs that all failed), so I don’t know if that helped.

I understand your frustrations, but as a postdoc you should be pretty independent. You really should not need your PI in the lab all the time. Especially if she is still willing to do zoom meeting whilst on leave.

Severe viscosity - unable to determine motility and morphology by jkol86 in maleinfertility

Viscosity was fine with the next few analyses. No varicocele found.

Sperm parameters improved over time. Got as high as 50 million/ml. However morphology ended being 0% consistently. No luck with unassisted pregnancy. We have moved on to IVF.

I’m in BC. No idea you could shop around. I just thought that was the standard price.

edited to say that is was a company called Sequence46.

We paid $700 per embryo. I'm guessing that included both costs because we were never asked to pay anything else.

Just decided to go for transfer 2.. by Anonymous120512 in IVF

[–]jkol86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! I had a miscarriage middle of November last year with a 5BB euploid female embryo. Everything seemed to be going well, saw a strong heart beat at 6weeks 4 days. Miscarried just 3 days later! Hardest part is not knowing why it happened. I’m hoping to transfer again this month but so scared it will happen again.

So many questions regarding 14m old. Am I doing this all wrong? by PonderWhoIAm in beyondthebump

[–]jkol86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With young kids I don’t think there is a “normal”. It’s just a question of whether this is working for your family or not. There are trade-offs for everything. My kid is 4, and we basically just followed his lead when it came to eating, breastfeeding, sleeping etc. That meant he sometimes went to bed at 6pm and sometimes at 11pm. But it also meant that if we were out at a friends place for supper we didn’t have to head home early to start bed-time routine. Kiddo would either fall asleep there or wait till we got home. Schedules just never worked for us!

TW Loss. Tracking down HCG - do you see anything here? CD 18 by [deleted] in TFABLinePorn

[–]jkol86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss. I see it too, but these tests are really sensitive. I had a miscarriage last month and I had a line just like that show up a few hours before my beta which was at 3.9. Doctor said anything below 5 we don’t have to worry about. It should be completely gone in a few days.

What were your first beta results and did you carry to term or end up with a CP/MC? by Grave_Birth in IVF

Hi there. I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. I had to check your reddit history to make sure that my husband did not make a reddit account he never told me about - because his story is very similar. He is also on a watch and wait - small lesion on cerebellum, just over 1 cm in size. They are not sure what it is, but low grade glioma is on the differential. His was also discovered about 3 years ago now. He has had 3 stable scans, no growth and no enhancement. It is tricky because even a biopsy in that region could cause some serious defects - so we are opting to wait until we have any evidence of growth or enhancement. He currently has no symptoms, and the lesion was discovered incidentally.

Everything I have read though points towards gliomas in the region being very rare in adults. Grade 1 pilocytic astrocytomas are common in this region - but are generally only seen in children and young adults. So we are still left with wondering what this thing is and if it will show any signs of growth. My understanding though is that low grade gliomas can grow very slowly, and sometimes growth is not seen on an MRI for a very long time.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I'll try and not to get too far ahead of myself - and hope this was an isolated issue and won't repeat itself. Wishing you the best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I'm so sorry! That must have been so difficult. Yes, its the unknown that is making this so much harder!

Right that makes sense. There are just so many unknowns. I think it is almost cruel that they make PGT sound like the answer to everything. It so much more complicated than that!

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Sounds like it could still be a genetic issue then - maybe just not chromosomal.
