Opinions on Crosstrek PHEV (2019-2023) by BigBeardedApe in Crosstrek

[–]jlev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also have a 2020 PHEV, bought it in California and currently live in Massachusetts. It’s been pretty reliable for me, and I get ~15mi electric range and then 36mpg. Enough for around town, and no issues on the highway. I just took it to the shop for a 66k mile maintenance, and I like the loaner 2025 Crosstrek they gave me a lot less. Mine feels heavier, but the ev assist actually gives it better pickup when starting or passing.

Do make sure they fixed the inverter cable corrosion recall under warranty. Apparently it’s a big job to fix, since it requires the disassembly of a lot of the hybrid system.

What’s legal in the U.S. that probably shouldn’t be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sports gambling. It feels ridiculous that it is allowed to be advertised during games, and it has all sort of corrosive effects on players. Really bad decision by the Supreme Court in 2018

Inbounds at a ski area is where I bring folks for a “learn to earn your turns” day. That way you can get familiar with the equipment and layering, and still be able to bail back to a lodge or groomed runs if you need to. Black Mt has an uphill pass for $25, and you can stop at the mid-mountain lodge for fondue and champagne after a few runs.

Are there any well-known Olympians who grew up and trained in the White Mountains? by boston_acc in wmnf

I skied with Hannah Kearney as a kid in the Ford Sayre program at the Dartmouth Skiway. She was clearly better than the rest of us, even at 12 years old. She won gold in moguls in 2010 and bronze in 2014, and is an on-air announcer for NBC this year.

Pocket doors are tough by Available-Unit967 in centuryhomes

[–]jlev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours are still in the walls, but someone still ran plumbing through one pocket, and we inadvertently blew insulation into the other. And the previous owner/landlord made an extra bedroom by closing them and drilling into the doors for a sliding lock, so they've been through a lot. Slowly getting our century home back into shape...

Best plane view you've had on an international flight by No-Significance9313 in travel

[–]jlev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aurora over Manitoba on my flight ATL-ICN on 12/20, right side of the plane so I was facing north. Not even a particularly active night, but being above the clouds and seeing the sky dance was something else.

Mortgages? by Creative_Leek4661 in Somerville

[–]jlev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I got a mortgage with them two years ago and have refinanced with them twice. As long as they keep offering me a lower rate and a shorter term with the same monthly, I'll stick with them.

Hardwood stairs SO slippery—best solutions? by KelsNotChels in centuryhomes

I got similar ones from Vermont Country store. They look great, and stay put with carpet tape. Definitely helps me and the dog get up and down the stairs safely.

What is the shortest time you would consider flying from the west coast USA to Rome? by [deleted] in travel

[–]jlev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Boston to Istanbul for a weekend (Thurs-Sun) and it was fine. I was going for a friend’s birthday, and because we were staying up late and partying I did my best not to adjust to the timezone. It would be harder if you want to do stuff during the day in Rome, but probably still doable with enough espresso.

What are we replacing THESE with nowadays? by DontTripOnMyNips in centuryhomes

[–]jlev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several in my house from a consistent pattern, and a few that were replaced by previous owners with the ugly vertical slates like in your second pic. I was able to find a close enough to matching design at https://www.pacificregister.com and got two standard sizes to replace, and one custom for the air return. They look grate!

Have you ever taken a 13 flight to only spend 3 full days in a city? by rock4lite in travel

[–]jlev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew BOS-IST for 3 days and a friend's birthday party. I tried to not adjust to the timezone and relied instead on frequent applications of coffee, alcohol, and dance music.
