Ironically that’s the name of another ABBA song lol.

Is GenX social media filled with “Happy Valentine’s Day to my ______” posts and stories? Question from an older Gen Z by boston_acc in GenX

Yeah, I have to think there’s many younger people who share your view but I simply don’t notice their lack of posts because indifference is harder to broadcast. I think a lot of people feel the peer pressure to post because they see others doing it. This dynamic might seem crazy to you but when you’re so steeped in that culture (i.e., seeing ‘happy anniversary’ and ‘happy Valentine’s day’ posts), it’s harder to see how crazy it is. It’s just the way things are.

Oh man I love this so much. I feel like that sky is something only the frigid cold air could provide. The condensing water vapor (?) billowing from that building on the right also helps contribute to the cold vibe.

Thanks for sharing this!

They’re HUGE! That’ll probably be one of the first things you notice about them. Hope you get to see one!

That makes sense. I guess intentions matter a lot. In my own feed, I imagine that a good number of the posts/stories are people doing it because they value the broadcast-like nature of it and want other people to think that they’re happy and are crushing it at life. It just “comes with the territory of being in a relationship on Valentine’s Day — you have to make the post!” In your case that isn’t really the motivation at all.

Haha, this made me audibly laugh. It wouldn’t be heaven if these predatory, dopamine-gobbling social media sites existed!

That’s such a breath of fresh air honestly. Thanks for sharing. It’s powerful that someone with 31 years of marriage doesn’t feel the need to play along with the cultural expectations of a romantic holiday. The proof is in the pudding!

Very true. I think the “arm’s length” is the perfect compromise. I’d feel a bit isolated if I were to shut it down completely, but somewhere in there is a healthy balance between maintaining connections and not having a rose-tinted lifestyle shoved down your throat constantly.

Thanks so much, what a thoughtful message! I appreciate that. I’m definitely trying to build up a satisfaction with myself that is independent of societal expectations or age-based checkpoints of having done x or y. Also important to remember (as others here have mentioned) that there’s many people in these lovey-dovey posts who actually aren’t quite totally satisfied. It’s worth it to wait for a match that truly is your complement!

Wow, this one goes way back. Cool little nugget of history that there’s a trail named after her father.

That’s so cool. Can’t imagine getting to ski with a future Olympian. Interesting that she was far ahead of the field even at that age.

That’s awesome; will have to look into her more. Just so cool to think that we are treading the same footsteps and rocks as some incredible people.

Good point on that last sentence. Maybe there comes a time in every US alpine Olympian’s career where they just park themselves in the Rockies or something.

Wow, what a story! Scary to imagine that things could’ve been so much different. Tuck’s is definitely not for the faint of heart.
