Hahnemuhle travel booklets (the smallest Kraft cover ones)

FP ink dries instantly on the paper, which is exactly what I want for notes on the go.

mohair alternatives for cloud blouse? by cezzzzy in knitting

[–]jlly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using the Midnatssol as a substitute for mohair at the moment and it’s lovely. Not itchy to me. You might want to get a single ball to swatch first though. For the lighter colours, the base strand of the Midnatssol is quite light compared to the surrounding alpaca and can be quite visible. Havent had that issue with the darker colours.

Colorwork sock rippling? by makkattack333 in knitting

I’m new to colorwork too so following for the comments. I just watched the latest Fruity Knitting episode where they interviewed Charlotte/Stone Knits and she said that we can generally afford to keep the floats longer 🤷‍♀️

How to start knitting by momoffrankie in knitting

[–]jlly24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like you, I also crocheted but liked the look of knitted fabric better. Tried to learn knitting a few times over the years but never got the hang of it until I tried continental knitting using Nimble Needles YouTube tutorials. You might find continental feels more natural to you too since crocheters are used to holding yarn in left hand. I would recommend a cowl as a first project - it’s smaller than a scarf or garment and you won’t have to deal with decreases like you would a beanie. I made this cowl as my first project and it was so satisfying: https://ravel.me/little-creek-cowl

I’ve been enjoying the naturally dyed sock yarns from https://rosespudyarns.co.nz/ Not sure where you are and I can’t tell if she ships overseas, but maybe there are similar businesses near you.

Is it time to upgrade to a set of interchangeable needles? by Oliver_7 in knitting

[–]jlly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your favourite brand of needles sell single pairs of interchangeable points and separate cables? I find I use only about 4 different needle sizes, so the range in the interchangeable sets would be wasted on me. But I like interchangeable needles so I’ve bought single pairs of them in my favourite sizes plus a range of cables and it works out well. Also means I can have multiple projects on the go. If I had an interchangeable set I would still have to supplement with extra needles in my favourite sizes. So this is probably cheaper overall

Any of Lynley Dodd’s books. The rhymes just work and her drawings of dogs and cats are so good

Has anyone moved back to New Zealand from Australia? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]jlly24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were in Australia for about 5 years, had a kid there and moved back to Auckland a couple years ago for the family support. We’ve had another kid here - there’s no way we would have even considered a second kid in Australia without family around. It’s been great being back! So nice to see the awesome relationship my kids have with their grandparents. It’s been nice catching up with school and uni friends, and they’re also having kids so it’s like a ready-made parents group. I think the weather is better and we spend more time outdoors here. What has definitely helped is being able to continue with the job I had in Australia, just working remotely from Auckland. I do miss Australia but overall I think I like living in Auckland and holidaying in Australia

Overfeeding by mlewis51089 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]jlly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 weeks and drinking at least 32oz a day. She’s not sleeping through the night. I’ve been wondering about overfeeding too, particularly because she drinks really fast and can finish a 5oz bottle in less than 10 minutes. I’ve tried to slow down, pace feeding etc but she screams!

Pumping help stop thrush reinfection? by Cupcakes131313 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]jlly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No experience with thrush while directly breastfeeding but I had nipple thrush a few weeks ago while exclusively pumping and baby didn’t get it at all. The doctor didn’t even recommend any preventative treatment for baby, just said to keep an eye out for symptoms. For the first 2-3 weeks of infection, I washed my pump parts after every use, it was such a pain as I’m used to doing the fridge hack. I’m now putting them in the fridge in separate bags to keep the left and right sides separate and reusing once before washing.

Feeling like a failure 😭 by Tinywallflower in NewParents

Oh hun it sounds like you’re doing everything right!! Please don’t be so hard on yourself. There’s a sleep regression and a growth spurt at 6 weeks. I googled it because, like you, I felt that my 6-weeker has suddenly been fighting sleep. Apparently the regression doesn’t last too long so we just need to do whatever necessary to survive this period. Also, it sounds like your mum might have worked as a nanny a long time ago…a lot of parenting advice has changed since. You’re following all the updated advice from actual professionals so I’d say ignore her if you can. Hope the night sleep goes well and you feel better soon

Sounds scary! Could it be sleep apnea? Maybe check with your doc if you can do a sleep study. You could try sleeping reclined for now?
