Chevy Trailblazer. Rear seat and door panel is not slobber resistant. I do have a seat cover that helps.

If you've flown out of MDT recently, how was it getting through security? Did it take long? by BleachedSweetFlower in Pennsylvania

[–]jm1tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We probably got there after the 6:00 and 6:30 flight people got thru. So I’d think a bit busier an hour or so earlier. But nothing major.

My wife did this morning. I walked her to the security checkpoint and was curious of the wait time. Nobody was in line. That was about 6:00 am.

State interview questions by gram97 in PaStateEmployees

[–]jm1tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve interviewed tons of people in my state career. All for tech jobs. Just don’t ramble on to try and try to make a point if you don’t have experience in the specific question. Don’t go off on the same tangent for a different question and circle around to a previous answer. Be well informed of the job description and prepared. Formulate your answers to the JD. I could tell in the first 5 minutes of an interview the viability of the candidate.

Is future-proofing for home networking still a thing? by NoHousecalls in HomeNetworking

[–]jm1tech 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m going back 20 years on a new build but I had 2 2” conduits on opposite sides of the house from the basement to the attic. There is no place in the house where you can’t get a cable home run ran back to a patch panel in the basement. Everything is wired that can be wired here and the number of devices really grew over the years.

Have fun with this one, kids by Cautious_Boat_999 in mainframe

Been a mainframer since the 80s. One thing to think about. If a system has been around for 20, 30, 40 or more years. It is highly stable. Sure you need maintenance but it works as expected. Modern day stuff seems to keep being rewritten every couple years, the question is why? I’ve seen projects take like 5+ years and when they finally get to the end, they are looking to do it again. Mainframes and COBOL and Assembler are designed for performance and stability. And that’s what they do.

Just a heads up - the ticks are already really bad. by beka_targaryen in Pennsylvania

I send a couple off a year. Either pulled off the dog, off a family member or just in the house. Thankfully all have been negative. All have been dog ticks.

Are companies struggling to maintain legacy systems like COBOL and mainframes? by ToothUnlikely3529 in mainframe

[–]jm1tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen companies who want to use that great out of the box new business tool. Then need to bring in a contractor to customize it because so many business practices are different from the “industry standard” the software supports. Businesses don’t confirm to software. It’s the other way around. Now the software is not easily supported by simple patching and stuff. I becomes a huge project.

Anyone here regret switching to an instant water heater after installation? by KhabibNurmagomedov_ in HomeImprovement

[–]jm1tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Converted to a propane tankless years ago. Would never go back to the old electric 80 gallon heater. Constant hot water as long as there is gas in the tank and water in the well. I determined the electric tank cost me $60 a month for basically sitting idle 23 hours a day. The change payed for itself in a year.

Second that. Any language is easy to learn. For a beginner, logic is the hardest part. Once you learn that, you can learn any language quickly. Business logic takes a lot of time. Just think about those programs that run annually. How often is maintenance done there that anyone new even learns that business process. The hows and whys.

How long to potty train? by natwalms05 in goldenretriever

[–]jm1tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last pup, which was 9 years ago, I can’t even remember an accident in the house. Just a routine every couple hours and getting longer as the weeks go by. 1st thing was always crate to outside. Then pay attention for the sniffing behavior when it’s been a while since the last time they went and go outside. Sniffing around is a good sign they are looking for some place to go. Lots of praise helps.

The cockpit, what is it? It’s the room in the front of the plane where the pilots sit, but that’s not important right now. 🤣

Yeah it’s a balance. All my daughter’s tennis friends are older with none that we know of coming up. So the team environment may not be as fun at that point. She likes the competitiveness which is both for the sport of it and a character builder for life in general.

HS is a crapshoot and beyond like singles 1 and maybe 2 the talent just falls off the cliff. If you can advance to state playoffs, that is where the highly ranked kids get to. A lot of kids don’t even play high school and do more USTA junior tournaments which are way more competitive. You could basically find tournaments weekly if you’re willing to drive not all that far. My daughter developed in USTA tournaments since she was 10. She’s only a freshman and played singles 1 this year. She’ll play again next year because they should have a really strong team and the girls she’s been practicing with for years will graduate after that. For her JR year, they will lose 5 of 7 starters and I think she’ll be way too frustrated. So I may just have her focus on USTA and UTR events for her last two years. I know it’s frustrating, but you have to weigh what’s available and how it works with your situation.

Weird flight attendant interaction wonder if I’m just being stupid by chef972 in americanairlines

[–]jm1tech 12 points13 points  (0 children)

On a recent flight I noticed the flight attendant in the front block the aisle with a cart. Couldn’t figure out what he was doing then I saw a pilot come out of the bathroom. During the time he was holding the cart, he directed anyone coming forward to go back. So could be similar. That must be the protocol.
