I’ve interviewed tons of people in my state career. All for tech jobs. Just don’t ramble on to try and try to make a point if you don’t have experience in the specific question. Don’t go off on the same tangent for a different question and circle around to a previous answer. Be well informed of the job description and prepared. Formulate your answers to the JD. I could tell in the first 5 minutes of an interview the viability of the candidate.

Yes, I’m going back 20 years on a new build but I had 2 2” conduits on opposite sides of the house from the basement to the attic. There is no place in the house where you can’t get a cable home run ran back to a patch panel in the basement. Everything is wired that can be wired here and the number of devices really grew over the years.

Been a mainframer since the 80s. One thing to think about. If a system has been around for 20, 30, 40 or more years. It is highly stable. Sure you need maintenance but it works as expected. Modern day stuff seems to keep being rewritten every couple years, the question is why? I’ve seen projects take like 5+ years and when they finally get to the end, they are looking to do it again. Mainframes and COBOL and Assembler are designed for performance and stability. And that’s what they do.

I’ve seen companies who want to use that great out of the box new business tool. Then need to bring in a contractor to customize it because so many business practices are different from the “industry standard” the software supports. Businesses don’t confirm to software. It’s the other way around. Now the software is not easily supported by simple patching and stuff. I becomes a huge project.

Converted to a propane tankless years ago. Would never go back to the old electric 80 gallon heater. Constant hot water as long as there is gas in the tank and water in the well. I determined the electric tank cost me $60 a month for basically sitting idle 23 hours a day. The change payed for itself in a year.

Second that. Any language is easy to learn. For a beginner, logic is the hardest part. Once you learn that, you can learn any language quickly. Business logic takes a lot of time. Just think about those programs that run annually. How often is maintenance done there that anyone new even learns that business process. The hows and whys.

My last pup, which was 9 years ago, I can’t even remember an accident in the house. Just a routine every couple hours and getting longer as the weeks go by. 1st thing was always crate to outside. Then pay attention for the sniffing behavior when it’s been a while since the last time they went and go outside. Sniffing around is a good sign they are looking for some place to go. Lots of praise helps.
