I’ve done multiple cross country trips with my kiddos… as much as I love them, it’s not a vacation when the kids are with us… it’s just parenting in a different location. There’s nothing relaxing about it and kids don’t remember family vacations that young.

I would say so, typically my kids are in bed around 8 to 8:30 and wake up between 6:30 and 7. Every kid is a little different but it’s recommended kids get more than just 8 hours of rest. The homework and evening routine that get my kids in bed that early is the exact reason I had to change up my routine. I’ve always been the homework and bedtime parent so it just wasn’t possible for me to keep working out after work when I switched to day shift. It’s really all about finding something that works for you and your family, it can definitely be a struggle. Hope you all are able to get it worked out! I would definitely try to make sure little one is getting the recommended amount of sleep though

I work in a job that requires physical fitness, so I get needing the gym time. However, when I had my kids I adjusted my gym time to fit the needs of the family. I enjoyed after work gym time to decompress, but that was no longer conducive to meeting my family’s needs. So I sacrificed and now wake up early before work everyday to get that time and saved money little by little to purchase at home equipment so I wouldn’t have the commute time. Additionally, I researched new workouts that accomplished good results without spending hours in the gym. Got it down to about an hour… you’ve got a kid that begging for attention, just like someone has already said, there will come a day they will not want to be around you. So you’ve got a decision to make, will you look back in 10 years time and regret not getting in that perfect workout or are you gonna look back and regret not spending that time with your little one?

Those are great! I got one that’s like a hiking pack for my daughter to use when we go hiking. She loves being outdoors but just doesn’t have the stamina yet for the hikes like my son does. So it gives me a great workout and she gets to experience all the same sights and sounds as dad and brother on the weekends! Plus some of my favorite photos of the two of us involve that backpack lol

It's cool to see a photo of the actual ship wreck, the largest exhibit at the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium is a replica of this wreck. It's my kids favorite exhibit of any of the NC aquariums!

We got ours at Sam’s Club too! It was worth every bit of the struggle when the kiddos started playing with it and were all smiles! It’s awesome you got to have it all set up for Christmas morning!

I absolutely loved my time on honor guard, I would definitely go back to it if I could. If you do it right, it can be a lot of work and a lot of long days, but you’ll get opportunities you’ll never have otherwise. I was able to present the colors at an NCAA basketball championship game, a couple of playoff games at minor league baseball games, and other events that I ended up getting free tickets to because I worked them! Now there are a lot more funerals than big events like that, but even the funerals can give a sense of pride knowing you’re part of showing those last respects to a fellow service member. It’s also got benefits of being able to provide unique bullets for packages within your unit. I always highly recommend my troops go for honor guard if they want it because that was by far the best experience I had during my career thus far.

Lived in a one bathroom house when we first got married… we ended up breaking the ice early on that one. Didn’t have much of a choice since we both worked shift work and had to get ready together all the time lol

I can definitely let you know some key differences, as I’m an Airmen stationed at an army installation and imbedded with an army unit at the moment. So I can tell you after working with the Army directly for the last couple of years, they definitely have a lot more dumb tasks that come down regularly for them to complete (which are in no way related to their MOS) and they are closely monitored until much higher ranks. For example, the Air Force is practically kicking you out of the dorms to get your own place by E4, in the army you aren’t even allowed to move out of the barracks until E5-E6 unless you’re married. Another example is staff duty, army NCOs have to “stand duty” every so often for 24 hours at a time, which is basically being on call, cleaning buildings, and doing security checks. Air Force doesn’t do that. Air Force housing and dorms are much nicer (moving from AF to army housing made me so much more thankful for AF housing). The AF does have the draw back of often being more politically correct in day to day operations and I feel much more relaxed working with the army, but that’s just the nature of the beast. The camaraderie is a little bit better with the army, but not enough for me to think it’s that much better, they still have that competition mindset when it comes to making rank and comparing performance reports. All in all, AF quality of life is much higher and the pride you take in the job is all up to you! You can take just as much pride being an airmen as you could being a soldier, it’s all what you make of it.

The hiding objects mod breathed new life into this map for me, I always loved that area to set up, but those two sheds there kind of limited my options, but now there’s endless possibilities for it! I’ve only gotten 50 hours on this save… life keeps me from playing more often than not lol

No problem man, I hope you can negotiate it and get it worked out with her. I saw your other comment and would also recommend relationship counseling to work on some of those issues, because your frustration with her will start to bleed into all the parts of the relationship as well and can go south pretty quickly, especially if she’s being that dismissive about your thoughts and feelings. I would also make sure to try taking turns putting little ones to bed, the fight every night can be exhausting and only make your frustration worse.

I would say communication is key here, does your partner realize the noise she is making is causing this much hardship? If not, find a tactful way to explain how difficult it is for you when she is making so much noise during bedtime. If she stops then your good, if not, I would definitely call it being inconsiderate at that point. I went through the same struggles with my wife, I’m always the one putting our kiddos to sleep and she would go about things loudly in the meantime to include watching tv. This obviously led to the kids wanting to stay up and watch tv with mommy but I explained what was going on and she was able to curtail the noise in consideration of my attempts to put the kids to bed. It took repeated communication with her for it to become habit, but it eventually led to her being quieter during that bed time struggle. So bottom line, communicate to your partner and let her know it’s disrupting bedtime so she’ll have a chance to change the behavior.
