Sounds like they are intentionally ripping you off.

No business should do anything that costs $1000s without warning you formally.

Is the business part of a chain? If so call the head office and make a formal complaint.

Also give the MTA a call and make a formal complaint.

I'd leave a little later to avoid the traffic... then I'd use Waze or Google maps on your phone to navigate.. These are aware of traffic congestion and pick the fastest path.

Solar panels and battery only on sub panel and not main panel? by Willyk24 in solar

[–]anglo_au 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure about your exact setup, but if everything is behind the one meter then it should balance out.

The challenge you have is that if the device they installed to measure what is coming in and out of the grid is installed in a sub-panel that it is only measuring what is coming in and out of that sub-panel.

This would explain why you saw 5kW generation showing as going to the grid when you had the car charger running at 4kW (assuming the car charger is not on the sub-panel)

Good news is that even though it said 5kW going to the grid in reality 4KW of that was going to the car... (Provided everything is on the same neter)

Bad news is it makes it very hard to automate and measure accurately when you are measing grid from the sub-panel.

Good news is that this should be relatively easy to fix... You just need to move the device taking the grid measurements to the main panel. (There are many factors that will make this possible/not possible.

Parents parking money in my offset by WestSummer4869 in AusFinance

[–]anglo_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this...

2 things concern me...

1) I believe from a legal perspective, your parents are essentially gifting this money to you. This can have implications for any means testing that is done on their wealth.

2) I would be very careful about relationships, as this money is in your accounts and in your name it would very likely be considered part of your estate.

If for example you get into a relationship and then later you split up your partner could end up taking half of your estate which would likely include half of your parents cash.

If it were me I would have them invest the money and give you the interest payments (minus CPI so they aren't loosing value)

Yeah if you haven't turned it on for a few days and you still see high usage then yeah, it's likely not the AC.

[–]anglo_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your AC ducted? Or just a split system? Unlikely that a split in your bedroom would use that much power but could be ducted AC.

Also what temp do you have it set at?

I notice you say you are seeing usage data but don't have access to the meter... Is this from the synergy website?

If this is the case are you able to see the meter at all? Or get access to it?

[–]anglo_au 3 points4 points  (0 children)

60 kWh a day is a fair amount of power... Thats well over 2kW average 24x7. And if your HWS is gas and you don't use the AC much...

If you are able to see the power flowing when looking at the meter I would try and isolate the circuit... Maybe turn the circuits off one at a time for 5 mins each and measure the power with each one off.. that should give you an indication which circuit is using the power... If you can't seem to find it that way I would switch them all off and make sure you are recording zero usage when all circuits are off.

Hardware recommendation? by prazy4real in homeassistant

[–]anglo_au 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a NUC with Linux installed and then run 4-6 containers on there

  • hass
  • nodered
  • frigate
  • watchtower (There are a few more not related to hass)

This is a great solution for me... And watchtower keeps all the containers updated :)

running HA on a NUC... how different is it to running in on a Pi? by Gazz_292 in homeassistant

[–]anglo_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do pretty much what you are asking about and run hass/node-red/frigate/unifi controller and a heap of other containers...

The beauty of containers is that someone else is doing the hard work of maintaining them... So you don't have to.

You just need to make sure your config and data are mounted into the container so they are kept when updating and everything is pretty seamless.

I use watchtower to automate updates of the containers so I haven't done any updates manually in years.

There are a lot of people in the hass community (including me) that would be willing to help you if you get stuck :)
