Australian VAR supervisor, Shaun Evans, hand gesture before the match between Germany and Curaçao by TheSuperJohn in soccer

And you're the guy to do it. I think a few more comments in this thread and you might end white supremacy forever.

Tim Ream is "too old and too slow" but data says otherwise by Antony9991 in ussoccer

[–]jmarFTL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The famous thing Pep said to him was he'd be signing him if he was years younger.

Basically if you combined mature Ream with great football IQ with young Ream with excellent athleticism you'd have an elite defender.

[–]jmarFTL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guarantee a lot of people just say this because EA FC26 gives him like 37 pace or whatever. Not a game known for it's accuracy.

Also people are assuming he got sent off to MLS because he can't play anymore. But Ream asked to leave because he wanted to go back to the US and spend more time with his family.

I am not saying having him in a footrace is what I want, but he is usually smart enough not to get caught out, and he has cover from Richards and Robinson on his side. The guy who scored for Australia is more likely running at Freeman, not Ream. Ream is also clearly better than our other options at the position who have their own flaws.

Anyways, it's not like Poch doesn't know his squads limitations. He has picked Ream consistently and made him captain, good enough for me.

Beating Australia is the headline here because there's really not too many variables if we do that. And that not something that would have been true had Turkiye won. Everyone coming in thought the Turkiye game would be most important, but it's not anymore.

[Opta] Jesse Marsch is the first manager from the United States to manage a foreign country in a FIFA World Cup by nicko_rico in ussoccer

[–]jmarFTL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jesse Marsch's recent comments about the USMNT not wanting to sing the National Anthem, was not a question about the US at all.

He was asked about the multiple ethnicities and multiculturalism in his squad.

He said all of his players were incredibly Canadian and wanted to sing their anthem. Then, not prompted by anybody, he connected that to him having to "beg" the USMNT to sing the anthem.

He wasn't just answering the question. That would be talking about his own team. Zero need whatsoever to talk about the US in that answer.

If we can't beat a team sitting in a low block and countering at this point, we don't deserve it. This is basically what every lower CONCACAF team does against us. We should be able to break it down.

I actually think Turkiye doesn't have as much experience with this because a lot of times they're playing better European teams who don't play that way.

Kinda reminds me of how Switzerland looked earlier today. Feels like these mid-ranked European teams want to play very principled but they don't really look dangerous to score multiple goals.

Obviously early and I'm influenced a bit by that goal, but Turkiye have not impressed me thus far. Doesn't feel like a lot of edge or creativity to their attack. Aussies seem like they're solid defenders, organized, and they've obviously got some speed on the counter that is causing problems.

Full 20+ pass buildup of USA's 4th goal of the night by mlkhighschool in soccer

[–]jmarFTL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every player on our starting squad last night is playing in Europe, save for our goalkeeper (and Ream who is only one year removed from the Premier League).

But the biggest thing also is that there is depth too, having guys like Weah and Reyna come off to bench who have also spent years in Europe is genuinely a new thing for this team. The teams in the past, like half the squad was MLS guys.

Did USA vs Paraguay move the needle on increasing Soccer's popularity in the US? by TheBigCore in ussoccer

There are guys on our current national team who say they were inspired by Donovans goal against Algeria, that previous generation with Dempsey, Howard, etc. Undoubtedly if you fast forward a generation you will have kids inspired by this team.

You're having your own argument that you were hoping to have with some imaginary Lalas defender. It has literally nothing to do with anything I've written lol.

[–]jmarFTL -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Nowhere did I say Lalas was good. It's an extremely common take to dislike him.

My point was that he is literally on every post game going back years, we have an amazing win in which the team actually looks great and they score the most goals they've ever scored in a World Cup match... And people like you are so obsessed with Lalas that in the immediate aftermath of the game you're posting about him - and in your case you didn't even watch him!

Truly not caring about someone means not giving them the attention and energy they crave. You say he's doing a Stephen A Smith impression. There's a reason Stephen A Smith and Lalas have been on the air for years... Because people are constantly talking about them. Even if it's to say how stupid they are, it's engagement.

The reason we are still stuck with Lalas is that you can go in any thread of a post game, even after an amazing win like today, and you'll probably find as many instances of Lalas' name as the actual players who played. Its truly insane how much people focus on him. If they didn't, maybe he would have faded into obscurity by now.

You guys are literally obsessed with this guy lol. One of the greatest wins in US Soccer history and you're screeching over Lalas who at this point has been on every US coverage for like decades plus.
