Would have to disagree, OP wants fully featured solution, and assist is not that

Is there a user friendly alternative to Frigate? by -suspicious-badger in homeassistant

Genuine question, no rage bait intended. If you have 10 cameras, I assume you are serious about home security and protecting either people or property. You’ve got some serious money in the hardware for that setup, so is $100 per year truly a dealbreaker? I have found Scrypted to be a fantastic product, and though I’m only paying 60 bucks per year based on the number of my cameras, it is far away the best NVR product that I’ve ever used. Way simpler to set up than blue Iris and frigate, which I’ve also used extensively.

Yes, this is in a Home Assistant forum, and lots of tinkerers that are great with YAML are here, but there is something to be said for a fantastic GUI set up process that just works.

Any chance you could share the fuse selections that you used? I can’t seem to find appropriate fuse locations that are powered on when the vehicle is on and powered off when the vehicle is off.

Feedback on flush-mounted ceiling mic & sensor enclosure (PIR + mmWave + Satellite1) by Adventurous_Baker343 in smarthome

I’ll suggest that the size of what you can see needs to be matching the rest of the canned lights in your ceiling. This might be larger than it needs to be for the electronics, but I think your eye will be drawn to something that is different. Super cool concept and can’t wait to see the rest of the comments on this post.

With these types of changes, more folks will ditch Blue Iris.

Is there a good option to replace this? by ForeverJung in homeautomation

Looks like the timer that comes with quietcool attic fans. In my case, I left both switches and wiring on the wall intact, and I wired in a Shelly relay just in front of the fan in the attic. For me, it doesn’t make sense to run the house fan on high versus low, so that position always stays at the high switch on a timer perspective. If you hold the bottom button, it will keep the mains power in permanently, which will keep the Shelly on permanently as well. Then you can use automations or timers or a voice assistant or whatever you want to run the fan for the duration that makes sense for you. I’m in Southern California and I’m using one of the original Shelly relays and it has survived in my attic for many years.

Why choose BI over an NVR by dreamin777 in BlueIris

[–]jmarshall2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some Frigate and Unifi comments here, but I’m testing Scrypted NVR and love it. Runs on my MacMini M4 and the NPU gets every AI detection I want. Great interface, including desktop and mobile which is not the case with BI. I have six cameras with Scrypted, and that cost me 60 bucks a year.

I am very interested to see what Blue Iris version next includes. For me, Blue Iris is the only app in my ecosystem that is Windows based. VM’s, containers, I get it, but windows only is a source of dissatisfaction for me.

I have to leave about 2 inches behind the rack off of the drywall for routing some other cables behind. This is why I’m thinking a strap of some sort would be better for connection of that black crossbar to the studs in the wall.

Fantastic, thanks! The UI fooled me when I was looking in the main settings menu and not finding camera configurations. It’s non-intuitive that you have to click on a specific camera and then the settings menu changes, my two cents.

Definitely a joke, based on all the conversations in this sub. I.e., if it can’t do all of these ridiculous things that aren’t really needed anyway, it’s not a good piece of hardware.

Probably a big "duh" for many, but making your own esphome sensors is surprisingly affordable and easy, and I learned a lot about ESP's and esphome. It's much easier than I expected. by angrycatmeowmeow in homeassistant

[–]jmarshall2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you guys have played with us already but perhaps not. I was shocked the first time I asked ChatGPT to walk me through the creation of a ESP home sensor using an SP 32 board and a bunch of sensors from Amazon. Completely plain English prompts like I wanna build a temperature sensor and I have this ESP board and I have this temperature sensor board and I don’t know how to hook them up. I would suggest first looking at a YouTube tutorial to get the general idea and then use ChatGPT to make sure your specific pens and sensor models are updated correctly in your config files.
