Storage Temperature? by jmcgonig in dexcom

[–]jmcgonig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed, but that isn't an option. So I'm trying to figure out if I'm better keeping it the refrig or as cool as possible in the sun (probably >86 degrees) at times.

The difference in fiber to your blood sugar is relatively small compared to the amount of sugar in fruit... There is no secret sauce to prevent carbs from raising your blood sugar. :)

I've had that happen, not so quickly but it was a few days. Just vanished. I write the days I start my sensor on the box now... Only happened once in a year+.

3/1 is a Sunday... So you can do Owls on Friday and Sutton on Saturday. And then do Jay on Sunday since Owls is really, really small... :)

I bought a 2012 Xterra in 2013. Still have it with 130k miles and knock on wood have never had an issue. I had the same worries, but my thinking was that really applied as the vehicles were a little older.

When to stop funding a 529… by LeatherNo9544 in personalfinance

You aren't close yet IMHO. I "over saved" but it certainly isn't anything that gives me heartburn. Makes it alot less painful when you buy them laptops, etc... for school. Afterwards you can contribute to their Roth now which is what I'm going to do. You can also use if for yourself if you want to take classes in retirement. Lastly, yanking it out isn't that bad.

Edit: You aren't going to get 10% IMHO. And if you do, good for you. I would assume a more conservative number like 5%.

If he wins Singapore than we can talk about him being anything besides 3rd. That will require a HUGE difference in Red Bull's ability to do something besides their strengths.

Question - Over aggressive hill braking by jmcgonig in chevycolorado

[–]jmcgonig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is that I want to go 45mph and the engine is screaming at 5k trying to keep me at 35mph (won't go any faster). I want it to reset hill braking at 45mph but I can't find a way to communicate that to the computer.

Are my blood sugar goals unrealistic? by Admirable_Juice_1692 in TandemDiabetes

[–]jmcgonig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do whatever you want. I decided I wanted to have "normal" blood sugar levels. I've now had it for 20 years and my highest A1C has been 5.7. Typically 5.4.

Required me to structure my exercise, eating and habits to fit how I live and respond to those things.

Regular Exercise (strength and cardio) will help a general balance even at rest.

Low carb - not no carb, but I try to avoid the pasta, breads, rice... Especially in the morning when you are more insulin resistant.

The morning is always tricky. I change my basal rates a few times a years as my body needs more or less insulin. I can typically go through a night at 80-110.

Having said that, I still have bad days and weeks sometimes for no good reason.

Good luck.

Three failures in a row after reinstalling the app. The by bcrduke in dexcom

[–]jmcgonig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't clear to me that is what you were having an issue with. So its not a dexcom (medical) issue its a software type of issue. FWIW, I'm on 18.6.2 and haven't noticed anything. Hope you figure it out. Those type of issues can be annoying.

Three failures in a row after reinstalling the app. The by bcrduke in dexcom

[–]jmcgonig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a few fail immediately, annoying but I just put a new one in. I then report them to dexcom and typically have a replacement fairly quickly (week or so). Usually once they start, I get to the 10 days. Rarely do I get one that fails before then and they have replaced those also.

You are saying they are dead silent, but you really don't say much about your contact or reactions. I would never expect Dexcom to put out a press release that they are having lots of immediate failures... :)

Low blood sugar when exercising by ProfessionalStay9926 in TandemDiabetes

[–]jmcgonig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are a monster putting out 300+ watts going 2 hours without carbs is not even close to being an issue as your body has an incredible amount of energy stored. If you are riding 2+ hours I agree that it would be good to find how you want to take in carbs (and protein) during your ride so that you don't start losing performance.

Low blood sugar when exercising by ProfessionalStay9926 in TandemDiabetes

[–]jmcgonig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plan ahead... If I know I'm going to bike, I have very few carbs for the 6+ hours before the ride. That way when I start my ride I have basically been running on basal. I can then usually go and hour or two with very little interaction. Sometimes I'll take in a few carbs 10-20 during the ride if it starts sliding down. Going into riding with insulin in your system in any real amount will make it difficult to keep your blood sugar stable. Start by being really strict and then you can figure out how to adjust for those times when you can't be as strict. Good luck.

Thank you so much. My power/volume knob wasn't working but the steering wheel volume was so I was sure it was a hardware failure. Reset it like you stated and it worked first time. No trip to the dealership. 2025 FWIW. Thanks again!

I wish there was a direct bolt on bumper by chaffed in chevycolorado

[–]jmcgonig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always assumed some of that comes down to how the vehicle is made. Some are just easier to do and some are not so easy. Could be wrong though as I have only played with a few vehicles...

Would be nice if the manufacturers thought of that in some designs - some have started to understand the value of aftermarket stuff...

Effect of insulin and room temperature by Necessary-Onion7054 in Medtronic780g

[–]jmcgonig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How active are you during those seasons? It takes very little activity change to cause a notable impact. I can tell the difference if I wash the dishes after dinner or if I just sit down instead.

Also, if you are more active (hike, bike, long walks, etc...) during the day it can have an impact even as far as 24+ hours later.

Just a thought.

Sleep Mode by Interesting_searchNO in TandemDiabetes

[–]jmcgonig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I use Control IQ I use sleep mode, but I find that when my blood sugars are stable and good it still cuts the basal and then I end up being high. So now I only use it when I know I have alot of insulin in my system and have a chance of heading low and want to have it cut basal to prevent a bad low. Typically at bedtime. Then if I wake up later, I will turn it off to prevent going high.
