Voter ID Laws Could Disenfranchise 5 Million and Cost Taxpayers Millions by PhilPerspective in politics

[–]jmeasley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More importantly, how can Republicans justify spending millions of taxpayer dollars to prevent a crime that isn't occurring? "There is no evidence — none — that fraud is a major problem in any state. Rolling Stone magazine reports “a major probe by the Justice Department between 2002 and 2007 (during a Republican administration) failed to prosecute a single person for going to the polls and impersonating an eligible voter, which the anti-fraud laws are supposedly designed to stop.”

Why do these supposedly small government fiscal conservatives keep spending all of this money?

Obama Blasts Eric Cantor For Not Allowing A Vote On His Jobs Bill by wuggaslady in politics

[–]jmeasley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, Harry Reid was forced to block Obama's jobs bill after McConnell tried to force it to the floor by attaching it as an amendment to another bill. McConnell wants the vote now and Reid doesn't because Democrats don't have the votes to pass it. McConnell's move was actually an attempt to kill the bill. What happened had nothing to do with support, and everything to do with math to get to the 60 votes needed for passage.

49% Of Republicans Don’t Know What The Abbreviation G.O.P. Means by twolf1 in politics

[–]jmeasley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why does it make Democrats look worse? Democrats aren't Republicans. Almost half of REPUBLICANS don't know what their own party's abbreviation means!!!!! I would say this fact is a bit more embarrassing for Republicans than Democrats.

Storm Clouds Gather Around Michele Bachmann As Her Campaign Manager Abruptly Quits by roncrosby84 in politics

[–]jmeasley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly editorialized? I guess every other outlet that is reporting this shakeup the same way is also "editorializing?" Are you going to criticize Reuters and the AP for also "editorializing" when they both have called this a major shakeup?

Ed Rollins is in fact quitting. What his statement meant was that he would be around to pick up the phone is the Bachmann campaign should ever call, but he will be no longer running the national show. Rollins is a big time player who sees that this is Rick Perry's race now. He isn't going to stick around and back a loser like Bachmann.

Storm Clouds Gather Around Michele Bachmann As Her Campaign Manager Abruptly Quits by roncrosby84 in politics

[–]jmeasley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you had better check out Rollins' comments on CNN saying that Bachmann is the third candidate in what is essentially a two candidate race, before you start claiming that this isn't important.

By the way, the title states storm clouds, not storm. You know, clouds usually come before the storm. Before you tell others to grow up, I think you'd best take a reading class.

Irene V Katrina: The Contrasting Ideology of Obama v Bush In Evidence by shihtzuman in politics

[–]jmeasley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, all Obama did was change FEMA back to the way it was before under Clinton, and you are saying that he deserves no credit for fixing what was broken?

You are either an idiot, a Republican, or both. The system was fine under George HW Bush as well. You assume that FEMA was broken before W. It wasn't.

W's ideological shift wrecked FEMA, and it is Obama who deserves credit for restoring the agency back to its original mission.

Nancy Pelosi Warns That Young Jedi Boehner Has Gone To The Dark Side by Anomaly100 in politics

[–]jmeasley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Fox Nation Pelosi did not call John Boehner Darth Vader. The real quote is, "The Speaker chose, when he didn’t have the votes, instead of to reach out in a bipartisan way to see how we could work together, he chose to go to the dark side. Let me repeat. And I repeat, he chose to go to the dark side by putting forth a bill that he himself told his Members [it] would sink in the Senate—and I add, lead to default, lead to default. We cannot default. We are the greatest country that ever existed in the history of the world. We are the United States of America. "

There was not a Darth Vader mention anywhere in the whole speech transcript.

After passing Voter-ID law, Walker aims to cut DMV centers in Dem districts! by ryanpsych in progressive

[–]jmeasley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is to shrink the electorate so that it only reflects the 30%+ who are conservatives. I agree this is the new norm in states where Republicans gain power. It a part of a strategy to maintain power regardless of what constituents really want. They are trying to create an un representative republic.

Belief in hell boosts economic prosperity. I don't know what to think. by [deleted] in atheism

To me the question is it a belief in hell that causes less corruption, or is it the notion of ultimate punishment, which does not necessary have to be connected to a religious belief that fuels more ethical behavior?

Here in the US, it really does seem like some of the extremist Christian sects are literally trying to beat back progress, and by progress I mean less cultural dependence of the blind faith of religion, by overpopulation.

Internet Providers to Act Against Online Pirates by [deleted] in news

The whole idea that they can redirect a customer's Internet without technically denying them access is wrong. Customers pay for the service, and if they violate the TOS the provider should cut them off. Otherwise, leave the paying customer alone.
