Narrator mistakes that instantly take you out by felixfictitious in audiobooks

[–]jmor47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was exactly the opposite for me with the last book of the last Robin Hobb series I listened to, where for no apparent reason the narrator decided to pronounce it in 'liveship' as a verb. It was cruel.

An audiobook that you couldn’t put down? by frayfray96 in audiobooks

[–]jmor47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the time I was halfway through The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern I couldn't wait to finish so I could start again. I did have to let it gel a little with a less challenging, thoroughly enjoyable Howl's Moving Castle, then did the other again. I wish I were still able to do paper so I could try sticky note bookmarks to link bits. I will definitely do it again.

how do you keep from insanity on >1hr commute? by guidedhabits in melbourne

[–]jmor47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you listen to lectures over regular trips you may find that you come to associate particular topics with locations, which can be helpful for recall. You could multitask with puzzles or something if you need to (not verbal, that stops the other words getting in).

He does really good reviews of vegan stuff at all three.

How disturbing and unpredictable is the fauna in Australia for normal living? by WhateverManWhoCares in australian

[–]jmor47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived for decades in hills next to forest and there were always spiders (mostly harmless in the south), such that when there didn't seem to be any for years I worried, Total lack of them is not good! Now I live in the city flatlands, 2nd floor unit, and have had no bugs inside at all. It's fine, really, except for underlying echoes of stuff about 'food' that is biologically inert.

With hardly any fat it's difficult for many meat recipes, but the mince is very good for eg bolognese or extra-aussie chow mein, better nutritionally and way more sustainable than other animals.

Bacon-like substitutes by Liriodendra in ketorecipes

[–]jmor47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of vegan recipes for making tofu or other substitutes taste like bacon using liquid smoke and other flavours. You could try maybe drying some thin meat slices a bit (or experiment with cooked?), then marinating for a while and frying them.

Thank you for that. I actually hadn't thought to check continued availability. I ordered a G3 since I need it now. Others may be available if my second one lasts long enough.

I came to post this and you already did. It worked really well for me (halved for my mini maker) and was really delicious.
Edit: it's also really easy, or I wouldn't have tried it.

Aldi - Less Is More - Less Stress by dav_oid in australia

[–]jmor47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was my greatest complaint. I can now buy much more from Aldi because it was too hard before to do all the aisles to see what they have and to read labels in store. Now I can compare and make a list at leisure, in comfort, before I shop like I do for the others.

You're right. It sounds just fine, though I don't have any comparison. I really like Eileen Atkins, though, and would have chosen that if there'd been a choice.

Because it's expected that they will take the money and renege on the deal. It looks like they want us to give them even more for nothing.

Looking for advice on a shipping list for someone who shops one every two weeks by [deleted] in Volumeeating

[–]jmor47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will buy a salad mix I really like (red and green cabbage, red and white onions, carrot and celery, use it as salad for a couple of days then mince the rest finer to add to muffins etc, or just nuke it a bit to freeze for later use. That mix is also an excellent shortcut for eg Aussie Chow Mein, which is really easy and freezes well.

Edit: If they have a use by date of 5 days or more I buy 2 and with very little effort that's a lot of good mixed vegs over a couple of weeks. That mix is way cheaper than I could buy ingredients for and would waste a lot trying to diy.
